i cannot accurately describe what it's like to watch the book series that shaped my life be adapted to live television absolutely perfectly.
however. the scream that i just screamed when I heard 'you drool in your sleep' sums it up very well.
rip shadow and bone. we would have loved to see dark alina. we would have loved to see matthias finally get out of jail. we would have loved to see kaz learn to love. we would have loved to see zoyalai on screen. we would have loved to see wylan's story. we would have loved to see the ice court heist. we would have loved to see colm fahey. we would have loved to meet kuweii. we would have loved to see jesper get over his gambling addiction. we would have loved to see matthias relearn all he knew for nina. we would have loved to see inej find her family again. we would have loved to see mal find out what life is like without alina. we would have loved to see nina learn to live for herself, instead of her country.
we would have loved to see more of the characters we all know and love.

Northanger Abbey (2007)
But when a young lady is to be a heroine, the perverseness of 40 surrounding families cannot prevent her. Something must and will happen to throw a hero in her way.

None of the men could tell ye how they really felt, because if they did, they would weep, and this fuckin’ city is damp enough.
Young Mungo by Douglass Stuart
“Mungo looked both up and down the hill, and then he kissed James quickly on the lips. It was like hot buttered toast when you were starving. It was that good.”
— Douglas Stuart, “Young Mungo”
i just finished Young Mungo and i'm honestly blown away by how good it is!! i don't even usually like novels from the perspective of a child/teenager but in this case it was completely necessary and so so good. the exploration of masculinity is brilliant and the depiction of endless poverty after thatcher is so deeply terrifying. and of course the menace of the camping trip!
i was intrigued by how bodies of water seem to indicate important scenes (the pond with the swans and algae where mungo and james kiss, hamish and mungo's joyride to the sea where mungo shows he's capable of inflicting violence, perhaps even the sea that mungo doesn't get to see when he and jodie go to the caravan, and of course the loch), so i looked up saint mungo who turned out to have been born on a river, worked near another one in glasgow, and died in bath. & ofc water is important to glasgow as well bc of the sea and its associated industry.
anyway much to think about but i already know i did really enjoy this novel
inconceivable to me that i will be able to turn on a tv and watch mungo and james like real people and they will say lines and be real. did no one think to consider the implications of that for me personally. what if i kill myself
