Things the Typology Community is Doing/Not Doing in 2019
I know it’s Christmas Day and this is premature, but it’s been a while since I went on a good ol’ fashioned rant. Some of these are less common at this point but newbies need to be reminded.
We’re going to understand what is type-related and what isn’t
We’re going to learn where fact stops and stereotype begins
Giving people shit for calling out mistypes. More often than not, they’re recognizing some evidence of a different type that you may be either rejecting out of bias or just not self-aware enough to see, and not doing it out of spite or in place of a come back
For that matter, we’re not going to type people because you hate them with no actual evidence
We’re not typing purely on vibes. Vibes can be a good jumping off point I’ll admit, but after that you need some actual evidence that someone is a type you claim them to be
We’re going to start using more sources. I know I’ve screamed it too much already, but sometimes we’re just plain wrong about these things and it doesn’t help anyone to spread misinformation
We’re going to be honest with ourselves about how knowledgeable we are on this topic. None of us are experts, point blank
Use the functions in mbti. Never throw them out as they were the basis of the theory
Do throw out Keirsey’s groupings. There’s nothing in common in stackings between an INTP and an INTJ, despite them both being xNTxs
Also throw out Socionics. It’s an over complicated system that can’t tell you anything important that mbti or jung can’t as well
Cool it with the “Introvert problems”
We’re not romanticizing 8 and we’re getting it through our thick skulls that 8s have some dangerous tendencies that should not be played down or cast aside
We’re going to learn what constitutes a core fear and what just doesn’t
We’re going to start giving reasons as to why types do things. Ex: 3s strive to be the best because they channel their shame because they’re in the assertive and heart triads. Not necessarily like that, but you get the picture
We’re going to acknowledge that mbti/enneagram don’t have a direct correlation, but we’re also going to make sure things make sense together. Assume that if you’re typing an ENTJ for example, it’s not a 7 core or a 2 core because that just doesn’t happen often. Like I always say, assume you, your friend, whatever it is your typing isn’t the exception when it comes to rarity unless you do have that evidence I mentioned earlier
We’re going to understand that mbti and enneagram are pseudosciences (there’s increasingly more data being collected, but still), but we’re also going to respect them as tools that have uses
We can make fun posts (I know I will at some point), but we’re not going to let them distract us from what mbti/enneagram are: tools that have uses
