was just inside a literal hospital walking with my new cane when a nurse passes me and looks me up and down and says "oh, you don't need that thing!" where's my button that kills all abled people
Ignoring ongoing covid paved the way for this change and put millions more in worse danger because of it. Mask up. Keep people developing debilitating long-term illness the government wants you to die from.
Where's that person who said I was fear mongering and actually they were an expert who's helped people keep their disability because they were completely overlooking this point that I assumed was clear because I might know just a bit more about gov't assistance than the average person. This will kill people. This will force disabled people out of their homes. This will take people who are barely surviving and make it so they can't survive at all and that's the point.
*taps mic* the queer community needs to make more effort to make pride events accessible despite corporate influence on pride and structural inaccessibility.
the queer community needs to hype up disability pride month (july btw) while queer pride month is happening. the queer community needs to amplify disabled queer experiences.
the queer community needs to recognize intersex people and how many of us have disabilities related to our intersex variation - and this Still Does Not Prove Eugenicists Right.
the queer community needs to fight ableism and love disabled people. queer or not. also quick question. why do you think the right paints us as insane predators.
People who aren't masking are missing out on so much fashion potential
This Pride Month, I am begging queer orgs to branch out from hosting events at bars and breweries. Some of us are sober, neurodivergent, and COVID conscious and it makes it so goddamn hard to find community when everything revolves around consuming alcohol in crowded indoor spaces.
Let’s start protecting people in health-care settings as that’s where people should have the best understanding of a viral threat.

People have gotten way too comfortable risking serious disability just because they feel they have the right to selfish.
Do you want to kill your parents?
Do you want to disable your partner?
Do you want your friends to lie in bed wishing for death?
Wear a fucking mask.

so this is still bad but the tweet omits a lot of information that can make people feel overly anxious. the summary of the rule can be found here: https://www.cms.gov/newsroom/fact-sheets/medicaid-community-engagement-requirement-certain-individuals-interim-final-rule-comment-period-cms
you don't have to prove it every month (unless your state fucking sucks): "States must verify compliance of applicable individuals at application, at renewal, and—at state option—at more frequent periodic intervals. "
there's a "medical frailty" exemption that "encompasses anyone with a serious medical condition or a disability that significantly impairs their ability to live or comply with the requirements." downside: what actually counts will depend on your state
its not an 80 hr paid work requirement, the 80 hrs can include school hours and volunteer work OR you can meet the minimum earnings of 80*minimum wage aka ~$580 per month (so if you have an above min wage part time job, you don't have to fight for 80 hrs to still qualify)
most importantly, this is an Interim Rule THAT IS STILL OPEN FOR PUBLIC COMMENT UNTIL July 31, 2026! YOU CAN COMPLAIN DIRECTLY TO THE AGENCY HERE (anonymously, too): https://www.regulations.gov/docket/CMS-2026-2047/document?withinCommentPeriod=true
will a comment actually do anything? I don't know. But agencies are legally required to review them, so SOMEONE in the agency has to at least read it.
the full regulations along with comment guidelines can be found here: https://www.federalregister.gov/documents/2026/06/03/2026-11094/medicaid-program-community-engagement-requirement-for-certain-individuals#h-24
"So this is still bad, but let's give the fascists the benefit of the doubt while they're on a massive eugenics campaign that's already seen attacks on the likes of childhood vaccination and food/drug safety. It's not like you lazy disabled have to do that much *paid* work, you just need to do a shit ton of volunteering and also play an unpaid managerial role in collecting and submitting all of that information and hoping your state accepts it! Don't have any outrage for the similar systems already in place across much of the South have already killed and medically disenfranchised: send a note people will get paid to ignore instead of channeling that rage into meaningful collective action."
Can you not? I'm not giving fascists the benefit of the doubt or agreeing with them at all. I absolutely hate this policy. I'm trying to provide reassurance for people who are terrified they're going to lose their benefits by providing them with more information they can actually USE. That includes ME, the entire reason I went on this deep dive was to be able to understand this and better prepare for this!!
Also, public comments ARE part of meaningful collective action. The government isn't just Trump and his cabinet, all the meaningful actions are carried out by smaller agencies that are staffed by people, some of whom are still human. It's boring and can seem insignificant, but it's a direct line to the individuals who carry out the commands.
It's the reason why DOGE can make headlines about firing entire departments only to have the tiny bureaucrats and rule followers quietly reverse the decisions because they were found to violate established policies. As much as I hate bureaucracies and jumping through hoops, the fact is that this system is still powered by those hoops. The fascists are NOT all powerful, there are STILL lines of defense against them, and we should not give up fighting.
Outstanding reply. Just don't address the part where you said it probably won't do anything (a strange thing to specify and cite if you don't actually mean it or want people to take that away from this) or the part where you try to handwave away tying work requirements to *meager baseline health insurance* which is required to access medical care, something that's already effected millions for years. Let's just ignore the states that already suck at this and the states that will suck with this new legislation. That's on brand for liberals... but the problem is really me. I'm being a real meaner for pointing out how inconsistent your calmmongering is and how it's agreeing with fascist ideals at several points. Kill me. Take my blood. Why would anyone be angry and upset and loud about an attack on disabled people when they could be complacent and ineffective?
When did I ever say you were the problem? When did I ever say people shouldn't be angry and upset and loud? When did I say to ignore the states that suck? When do I say that it "probably won't do anything"?
All I'm doing is providing more information about the rule that's going to affect us. I don't provide blanket statements because what's true in one state may not be in another. I say "I don't know" when I don't know things. I don't understand why that personally offends you. Nothing I've said contradicts you.
I fill out applications for government benefits regularly. I have helped people who think that they aren't eligible, to get government benefits. That's my reason for providing extra info, so people know that there are ways around the work requirement. That's not "handwaving" it away. I want people to be able to find any loophole they can to access the care they need. That's it.
If you think your rage at me is "meaningful collective action" then ok. Kill me. Take my blood.
A dressing down starting here could certainly read to someone as you addressing me as the problem, as well as your most recent conclusion insulating I don't do anything but yell on the internet. You seem more concerned with tone than anything.
I don't actually trust the opinions of someone who doesn't understand the sheer mass of effort of sending all that disperate work info to the government to have actually done the work to help people fill it out, or it wouldn't have been phrased as a "don't worry." I say this as a person who already got kicked multiple times from medicaid working well over 80 hours a month who couldn't prove I was working because I'm contract and not W2: you obviously don't know what you're talking about if you're telling disabled people an unpaid part-time job at minimum to prove they're worthy of aid is nothing to worry about.
If loopholes is what you want to communicate about, communicate about that instead of speaking in twisted illogic about the utility of unhelpful actions while playing tone cop.
The point I hope y'all are getting tbh

can people please stop coughing open mouthed
When people ask me why I wear a respirator in public, it's specifically because I don't want to rely on a guy who coughs on babies to be decent enough to wear a mask when he's ill. There are millions of them out there...
If you say "during COVID" (past tense) I'm going to Do Violence to you until you die
