"Of course I don’t. Didn’t you see the roster? None of you all were on it. That roster must be-I dunno-two or three years old by now?"
But it seemed to make little difference, for despite her words, Shinji was all up on her. His glasses had been swapped out and he was very clearly wearing the look of death in his eyes. What…would he have done to her had she actually found out? She was too terrified to think on that if, and instead focused on the still terrifying now as she cowered beneath his figure, looking like she may cry at any second.
"I-I don’t know anything! Pl-please leave me alone,"
She whimpered. This was the mastermind of the Glass class, everyone.
"Really! Holy shit this is the best! I can't believe you didn't find it!"
He fist pumps and is very tempted to, but does not, do a back flip.
"I was soooooo worried that you found out. Ohhh man. This is excellent! I can be normal until I die in here!"
Shinji paid no attention to how much Kotone wanted to cry or the fact that he might have seemed threatening, he was too busy having a GOOD TIME.
"If that's the case, we can move on to what I wanted to do! Can you come with me to check out this thing?"

It…was scary to have a person like Shinji call her out on all this, but it was equally as scary to have him compare himself to her. But he wasn’t wrong. The two of them were two peas in the same mystery pod. But…she just wanted to find reasons why this couldn’t be true. She wasn’t Shinji. She wasn’t a murderer. She wasn’t scary.
"…"
"Then you of all people should know why I lied for so long. I couldn’t let my identity slip. My life is too threatening to Hope’s Peak, a-and if they knew who my family was, they could easily pick them off to get to me,"
"After all, birds of a feather understand each other right? Or something. It’s the reason I’ve been leaving you and your secrets alone. My talent may be in exposing others, but only for the betterment of the world, and stuff."
"…But I wouldn’t say I’ve left my lies behind me. When we leave here…I’m gonna have to go back to being Channing Burke."
All this talk of lies and lying seems to have made Sorrel even more uncomfortable than he already was. When he’s finished bandaging up Shinji, he goes to dispose of the used materials and then steps out of sight behind the case that sits on the other side of his worktable. Did he just… go hide from them? Yep. Seems like it. At least he made sure Shinji was fixed up first. Okay then, bye Sorrel.
Shinji raises his eyebrows as he watches the unicorn thing cower in the corner. He pulled his jacket and shirt back on and gave Sorrel a short nod as a thank you for healing him. He figured that changing the subject might not be the best thing right now so the small nod would have to do.
"That brings me to my next question. When you delved into the secrets of Hope's Peak, I'm sure you found my talent and full name, right? It must not have been that hard, right? I just bribed them into not putting it on class lists and so forth."
The mystery boy got up and rubbed his forehead.
"Forgive me. These glasses have such a strong prescription it's hurting my eyes."
"That being said, what do you think of me? I'm sure that you found out what I am, right? I'm sure that you did. What do you think of me now that you know what I am and what I do for a living? Are you surprised? I'm sure most people would be."
He tucks the glasses into his coat pocket and walks closer to his roommate. Shinji stumbled slightly as he walked, side affects of being fucking stabbed and loosing a lot of blood.

Heck if you did try and do it yourself, cock sucker, you came to my door.
Still, Kotone says nothing as she leans against the doorframe, pretty exhausted from the downward trek. Shinji was much heavier than Daisy, even if he was actually walking, and their room was much higher up than Daisy’s comfy first floor room. The fact that she was now re-covered in blood did not sit well with her, but it could always be worse.
As she watched the tiny unicorn scuttling around Shinji, she couldn’t help but think back to the trial. To the moment right before they came down. Shinji…was such a scary individual, yet he was acting very innocent and almost carefree, like the silly burrito she found him as when they first met. But not to mention…
"…"
"Shinji-san…In the trial you said you could live here for a hundred years and never forgive me, and I know you have better, closer acquaintances than me. So…why did you come to my door? I could almost understand it was the easiest option, but…"
In all truth, if Kotone could pick between limping down the stairs with a cut like his or going to him for help, she’d take her chances on the stairs.
Somehow Sorrel doesn’t seem convinced by that story, nor does he appear particularly at ease around Shinji. Nevertheless, he does his job. It takes only seconds for Sorrel to gather everything he needs, and then he’s hurrying to Shinji’s side. There’s pretty obvious tension in the set of his shoulders, and he hasn’t actually verbally responded in any way, but as he pulls Shinji’s shirt and jacket out of the way his movements are swift and professional. He clearly has some kind of training, and plenty of experience.
Still without another word, Sorrel uncorks one of the bottles he’d retrieved and, using a clean cloth, quickly cleans Shinji’s wound. There’s probably a light sting, but no more than is normal for antiseptics. The tincture smells like a mix of lavender and honey, and when he’s finished and has set it aside, Sorrel presses a fresh piece of linen over the stab wound and quickly begins winding a roll of bandages around it. Don’t worry Shinji, you’ll be patched up in no time!
"To be honest, it was the fact that your door was closest. But... maybe I was... a little harsh with that number."
He coughs and clenched his fists when Sorrel began to work. Wow, it was certainly uncomfortable to have someone's hands all over you. Shinji looked more uncomfortable than anyone else in the room, especially because the question marks by his name were specifically to avoid this kind of situation.
"Maybe," he repeated, looking down at the ground before looking back up at Kotone. "I'm not a very trustful person, you see. I've been trying to hide what I am for weeks and weeks. It's hard, Kotone, it's so hard. Someone figured out my last name, two people know where I grew up and about my family. One person knows exactly what I am. The name just slipped out and the facts about my family because... I needed to talk to someone before I lost myself in this lie and forgot who I was."
"You were living a lie, too. You lied to everyone when you said your fake name and talent. You lied when you joined us in wondering 'why were we here in this hell?' You're a liar. I'm a liar. I think I just found comfort in that. We're birds of a feather. Though you've lost your lies and here I am, still holding on to mine desperately."

Tally ho indeed, motherfrickers.
Perhaps this wasn’t her best idea, she considered as Shinji leaned onto her. There were a multiple of issues that could arise, and Shinji was a scary enough being on his own without having to plot anything. Even the way he thanked her, the scowl of his, it was a little unnerving.
But it’d probably be worse for her if she did just dump him somewhere. At least this way, Shinji and hopefully Aideen by extension would owe her one. Besides, Kotone knew fake blood and she knew whatever was dripping from Shinji’s veins was not that. What real danger could be pose to her if he was really hurt that badly.
She was so busy entertaining these thoughts that she hardly had the piece of mind to reply to whatever Shinji was saying, much less make polite conversation with him. Maybe it was for the best, because very few good conversations are spent over the topic of a bleeding arm.
Finally after descending a seemingly endless fleet of stairs-the task was becoming somewhat normal to her-she helped Shinji into the clinic, hopefully not interrupting any shipping moments between Sorrel and Elle.
"Sorrel-san, I’m back. We have another injury,"
It was almost comedic how deadpan she was in dealing with this situation as compared to last night. Granted, her adrenaline wasn’t pumping, she wasn’t about to loose Shinji and even if she did, she wouldn’t mourn him like she would’ve mourned Daisy.
When the two of them stumble in, Sorrel appears to be busy neatly arranging fresh bottles on some of the shelves. He starts a little at the sudden entry, and when he glances over his eyes widen and he quickly moves to deposit his armful of bottles over on his worktable so that his hands are free.
"O-oh, p-please, um, s-sit down on one of the beds, I-I’ll… be right over…" Sorrel trails off, darting glances up at Shinji. Then he hurries around to the other side of his worktable and starts pulling out clean rolls of bandages and clothes. "What happened?"
Shinji raises his eyebrow at... this furry. Wow, Aideen wasn't kidding about these things. Shinji had mostly avoided them and tried to entertain himself in other ways such as writing and not getting stabbed like everyone else in this hell hole. Well, his time had come and here he was, trying to not stare at this guy's horn.
"Thank fucking Christ on a bicycle. I hope that you have actual medical training," he said, leaning a bit more on Kotone. Thankfully she was on the dry side and would get a minimal amount of blood on her.
"As for the wound... Eh, it was a mistake! An accident, if you will. I'm normally careful, you see, that's why I tried to do this myself."
He wasn't careful enough on what abusive maniacs to let back in his life, though.

Ok, this still was not getting any better, but at least Shinji looked like a lovable goof with his glasses on. But that hardly mattered, with or without the glasses he was a murdering vampire who was bleeding out all over her floor. Was he just trying to lure her out so he could strike her, could he really not enter her room?
But once more, what difference did Kotone’s death make, anyway? If anything, maybe if she lent him her assistance, he’d end her in a less horrific way. So, ever anxiously, she edged out of her room and offered her shoulder to Shinji. Maybe if she just forgot about the blood, it’d disappear completely. Yeah, that sounds like something one of her characters would say concerning a monster. But wasn’t she in the same stupid boat as them?
"It d-doesn’t make a difference, I guess. I won’t ever have c-clean clothes…"
And if Shinji were to look closely, where he was about to lean was a big blood stain, hardly visible with the red on her jacket. This is the third time Kotone got her jacket blood stained. Regardless of that, the queasiness she felt never disappeared completely.
But she knew if she turned her back on Shinji when he needed help, then it would come back to bite her. That was just the added reason Aideen would need to go full werewolf on her.
Shinji didn't look closely. In fact,he was having a hard time looking anywhere. He didn't want to look at his wound and get nervous about it. He didn't want to look Kotone in the eye because maybe she'd ask him more about what happened. He didn't want to talk about it. He just wanted to get healed and forget it.
The second that she bent to his demands, he smiled weakly and put his arm around her.Maybe he was wrong about calling her a piece of shit in trial.
"Thanks, roomie. Nice to know that you wouldn't leave me bleeding on your doorstep."

Frick, frick and a half. Of course, the actual wording of said fricking was not nearly as clean in Kotone’s head. Instead of a polite response to a gentleman question Shinji posed, Kotone instead shrieked silently as she stumbled away from the mystery man, toppling over her own feet and collapsing in an attempt to distance herself from him, all color drained from his face.
”F***,” she cursed. “W-what gives you the assumption I-I know how to stop bleeding?! D-do you even know what a conspiracy theorist is? I try and prove th-that reptiles control the government a-and the moon landing was fake, I-I don’t do this!”
But there was someone who indeed did this, Shoji. And he told you all you needed to know about bleeding and dying, didn’t he? But…he told her how people died, not how they got better. He was an anatomy teacher, not a nurse. And Kotone certainly had no experience with this sort of topic. Who needed to understand how characters could heal themselves when she was busy making them die. She looked away, desperate to distance herself from the blood.
”J-ju-just apply pressure! I don’t know! Ask Sorrel-san!”
Why couldn't Shinji get a break? First he gets this injury and then Kotone refuses to help him. Christ! He almost wished that he wasn't a secret and he went back to his old job. He had power then. He was respected. Of course, none of The Gang was here to he was inherently powerless as long as his name was burdened by question marks.
"Daisy told me that you helped her with-" He shook his head. Why did he believe anything that the Barbie told him? "Never mind. That was a stupid assumption to make."
The room slowly swirled around him as he leaned against the door frame.
"You know what? Forget I said anything about the blood! In fact, just pretend that we're just having a friendly chat on the way to the nurse... where you're kinda making sure I don't fall over. Wait, will this help?"
He quickly pulls the glasses out of his jacket pocket and puts them on.
"I'm not scary anymore, right? Yeah, I forgot that happened."
Shinji thought he was above begging to someone so much lower than him in every sense of the word, but the ends justifies the means. He'd rather be alive with someone mocking him for this than dead on the cold castle floor.

It would make sense why Shinji came to the front door because if he even tried to go through the door connecting the two rooms, he’d find it was securely stuck. And as Kotone popped the door open, it was obvious to see why. The girl had pushed her desk in front of the bathroom, permanently severing the ties the roommate had. But that was assuming he’d never come to her front door, and apparently, Kotone had never entertained the notion.
She shouldn’t have opened the door, she told herself. If Aideen was to be trusted, Shinji was a vampire and besides that, his tone terrified her, just as his darkened expression did. It was clear the boy she had upset during her first week here, who she had reduced to a bundeled burrito, had become something darker, something scarier, and Kotone was his prey at one point.
But what brought her here, to the threshold of what could be her undoing? Obviously it was because she had no choice but to trust the inhabitants of the castle now. Trust and cooperation were their key to escaping this place. And if he truly did want to suck her dry, so what? At least Bennett and Daisy would leave this world. But at the same time…that was a scary thought.
Did vampires of this world need permission to enter rooms, she questioned.
"Wh-what is it Shinji?"
"It almost looks like you're unhappy to see me? I can understand why- but let's be real here. If we're to be roommates for all eternity, we might as well be nicer to each other. Right? Right. That'll make things go a lot smoother."
He clutched his upper arm and looked down at her, anger and fear swirling through his eyes like waves in a storm. Looks like he could drop the unnecessarily cheery demeanor.
"Listen, I know I have no right to ask you this but I need a favor. I know you have experience stopping a lot of bleeding," he said, peeling back his jacket to reveal a large slash in his upper left arm, "and boy is there more blood outside of my body then there should be."
Shinji quickly covered up his arm again and looked down at the ground.
"You don't even have to talk to me on the way there or even admit that this happened. Please, I need someone's help."
Did you hear that? It was honesty ringing through his words. God, this was the first time he'd told the truth for this long this whole time. A few sentences, must be a new record.
RELEASE THE FURRIES | shinji & aideen | re: HELL
WHAT THE HECK NO LONGHORNS IM LEAVING
Shinji’s eye’s widened after his roommate gave her long speech. How could this happen to him. He made his mistakes and now… now he had no where to run. None of them did. They would be trapped here, forever. With that came two realizations:
One: They couldn’t get him in here. All the things that he’d done to save himself and his family had never been enough to keep them at bay. He was sick of all the running and it had finally come to an end. Shinji could finally be free.
Two: He was trapped with these guys forever. Aideen was okay but he was pretty sure that everyone else hated him. Wtf guys? He only wanted to call a mastermind trial and this is the thanks he gets? At this point, Shinji wished he was SHSL ice cream man so at least he could give everyone some chill.
Speaking of people who needed some chill, he turned to Kotone and frowned.
"Fuck you. Seriously, fuck you. You’re th’ reason that we’re ‘n ‘ere. Y’ cry an’ cry an’ suddenly everyone feels sorry for y’ an’ forgives y’ for a stupid mistake. I know that all humans make mistakes an’ that it doesn’t mean you’re less of a person- but that doesn’t count here."
He took off his glasses and rubbed his eyes out of pure frustration.
"If y’ are telling th’ truth: congrats on at least owning up t’ th’ fact y’ fucked up. However, y’ can’t just beg t’ die an’ escape this guilt. You’re going t’ live with it whether y’ like it or not. Also: I don’t understand why anyone believes you. Bitsy broke down in tears before an’ they turned out t’ be horrible. I can’t imagine what kind of slug y’ are if you’re lying. I can spend 100 years in this place with y’ an’ never forgive you."
As he was figuring out what he even thought about the situation, Daisy spoke up. It was only a few minutes ago that she cast off their friendship like it was nothing but a used tissue. Shinji would never admit it, but it really hurt. Seemed like everyone that he called a sibling was destined to hate him. He tried so, so hard and he failed. The mystery boy chewed on his lip and glanced at the floor. He exhaled and squeezed his eyes shut, locating Aideen’s wrist and giving it a firm squeeze. Shinji tried so hard to be a good brother. He lost Haruo to his job and Daisy to his temper. When will it end? He perked up when Daisy talked about her possible children. He was glad that she was getting better with her diet but…
“Th’ blood of th’ covenant is thicker than th’ water of th’ womb, Daisy. You’re… you’re using th’ phrase wrong.”
He couldn’t get angry about the time she confronted him in the garden when he tried to apologize. He couldn’t be the big brother that he promised he would. But, he couldn’t avoid saying one more thing on the matter.
“Don’t ‘ave kids just for th’ sake of having them, by th’ way. You’re still a kid and they’re human beings, not accessories. Don’t have them until you’re ready an’ know y’ can raise them in a healthy environment. If you’re not careful, one of them won’t… turn out right. But nothing matters as long as y’ say that y’ ‘ad two healthy boys, right?” He squeezed Aideen’s arm again, “I know y’ want nothing t’ do with m’ but at least promise m’ you’ll b’ careful. If not for me, then for y’ kids?”
While this is all going on, Aideen finds herself… silently fuming. Her, stuck in here? With these people? After all her hard work? God! She’d never even gotten to go out on a proper job, and yet, here she was, being punished for some unreal bullshit. And all of these people around her were just going to… forgive and forget??
“Um, are you all okay? Like, you’re forgiving her for literally ruining our entire lives? I’m constantly astonished by the new lows you can reach. Super-astonished! She… she… because of her goddamn mistake, we’re here! Stuck! Forever! And you told me you could get us out, and that’s why we shouldn’t vote for you! God! Was that a lie too? And all your little friends are just gonna forgive you because you cried a bit. Waah, waah, I’m sorry, so that makes it A-OK that I caused the death of a bunch of goddamn TEENAGERS! We all had lives ahead of us! And you- you’re as bad as the freaky mushroom guy! This is as much your fault as it was theirs, and you- you- hah! You want me to kill you? Fine! I’d be goddamn happy to! After all, I only kill when I have to, and this is pretty damn dire!”
By the end of her tirade, her fangs have extended to a painful degree, causing her speech to slur a bit around them. Her hand trails down to her gun, with the full intention of doing what Channing had asked and killing the remaining mastermind. How dare they separate her from her family like this? And for what? Some pitiful mistake this girl wasn’t making up for? It disgusted her.
But she finds her hand halted by Shinji as he grabs her wrist. Still near-growling with fury, she turns to look at him, her eyes flicking between his face and the hand on hers. Ah, right. She’d just be proving all their disfigured impressions of her right if she went off completely… as much as Channing deserved it. Seeing how upset her new buddy was, she reaches over to pat him on the shoulder as comfortingly as she can with claws for nails.
“‘s okay, Mr. Shinji. She’s not gonna listen to you, anyway. All she cares about is lettin’ her friend go. I hope you’re happy, Montana. I hope that she’s worth all the lives of everyone who got killed ‘cos of her, huh?”
Her scathing gaze turns to Daisy, but even as she speaks, her expression softens only the slightest degree. Must be Shinji. What a nice guy.
“And, like, stop makin’ everythin’ about you, anyway. You can forgive her all you want, but it doesn’t change anythin’, and it doesn’t get us out. No- you. You need to fix your damn mistakes.”
Once again she directs her speech at Channing, demeanor growing dark. Still, her hand remains firmly clasped in Shinji’s, and she seems to be trying her hardest not to spear him with her claws.
“Thank y’, Aideen… No matter what happens today, I’m glad you’re m’ friend.” He let out a sigh and rested his head on top of hers, squeezing her wrist in a calming and rythmic manner so she won’t go full furry on Kotone’s evil ass. “Shhhhh. shhhh… Th’ sun ’ll come out… tomorrow…” He hums the rest of the song as he leans on the smaller assassin. Hopefully it works on his little brother and werewolves.
