#i was talking with one of the nurses who was like but wtf it's winter how can people be out all the time like that #and i was like i mean winter is the worst season to try and sow division #because people are used to the little things- shoveling a little extra on the sidewalks. reminding neighbors to move their cars.#summer is hot and humid and you'll still do little things but at the same time...the penalty for not doing so is much less #aside from tornado or storm warnings etc if you fuck up and nobody helps you you are nost likely going to survive unscathed #but in winter if you fuck up - even through no fault of your own- and nobody helps when you need it you could be seriously hurt or die #so we grow up being taught that you don't do that. your dad sends you across the street because the corner neighbor you've never met #has not shoveled their driveway for the last two days after the ice storm #someone that you had bad blood with in like. sixth grade. stops the car five yrs later in the middle of the road to ask if you have a ride #and like you don't have bad blood now but you also don't play any sports together or music or church or friends in common #but you are walking on the sidewalk and it's snowing and there's like maybe 90 minutes of sunlight left before twilight so she stops #and when you decline a ride she says she can wait so you can wait in the car instead of the sidewalk #and when you decline that too then she asks-but-demands that you call her when you get home #and maybe she would have done so in summer too but in the absence of severe weather.... probably not? ask if you had water maybe #i dunno #also like. one person in the street in -19 is cold. 10 people in -19 is cold.#thousands of people from sidewalk to sidewalk from blocks to avenues in -19 is a lot less cold
