just got sent this and I’m screaming
trich and derma are the most Bullshit disorders You’re just chilling, minding your own business, and then suddenly you’re smacked tf down with the intense urge to rip all your skin off and pluck every hair off your body
person: why are you picking? where do you see imperfections?
Satisfying things to do instead of picking
Cook a corn on the cob, let it cool and pop the cooked kernels.
Spread acrylic paint on a plastic palette or table (make sure it will come off first), let it dry and then peel it off.
Put Elmer’s craft glue on your fingers, let dry and peel it off (not only is it satisfying, you also can’t pick with it on).
Make/play with slime
Pick petals off of flowers
Crochet/knit/make a loom band project
Pop bubble wrap
Untangle something (headphone cords, jewelry chains)
Peel the paper off of crayons
Play with a stim toy
Peel fruits
Pour hot candle wax on a plate (let it cool!!!!) and pick it off
Crack open seeds/nuts
Pick those little seeds out of strawberries
Feel free to add more!!!!

Hey
please remove your hands from your skin. You are fine, your skin is fine. You don’t need to pick anything off. You don’t need to dig anything out. It’s okay. Breathe. It will heal. It will go away. Don’t let this illness control you. You control you. Okay?

“Don’t allow your wounds to turn you into a person you are not.”

“As time goes on, you’ll understand. What lasts, lasts; what doesn’t, doesn’t. Time solves most things. And what time can’t solve, you have to solve yourself.”
— Haruki Murakami (via purplebuddhaquotes)
My therapist wants me to talk about and think about picking. Obviously I also want to do that to some extent that's one big reason I am in the therapy in the first place but it is so hard to talk about because it has been so many years of letting it happen now... It is hard to shine a light on it. I am trying to want to stop and trying not to beat myself up when I do pick because thinking about stopping and trying every now and then to put my hands down is better than always giving in ofc! So here goes. Wish me luck on this painful journey of healing (torture more like, but I better do it some time!)
here is your gentle reminder that there are dandelions growing through cracks in the sidewalk. there is a fence lizard on the porch who is growing a new tail. there are trees growing through an abandoned house, branches tearing through the ceiling, ferns carpeting the floor. there is life pushing forward, pushing through.Â

“It’s surprising how many persons go through life without ever recognizing that their feelings toward other people are largely determined by their feelings toward themselves, and if you’re not comfortable within yourself, you can’t be comfortable with others.”
— Sydney J. Harris (via purplebuddhaquotes)
“Where there is anger, there is always pain underneath.”
Eckhart Tolle
“What does it mean to hold space for another person? It means that we are willing to walk alongside another person in whatever journey they’re on without judging them, making them feel inadequate, trying to fix them, or trying to impact the outcome. When we hold space for other people, we open our hearts, offer unconditional support, and let go of judgment and control.”
— Heather Plett
