Summer Dreams || Denni Fallon
I lay on the sand, bare chested, the sun was sorching my back, but I enjoyed it. My phone vibrated. Sighing, I opened it, but with the sun it was hard to see the screen clearly. But I could at least make out that it was from Denni. I smiled. I couldn’t wait to see her. It had been a week or more since we had speant time together, she was always cooped up in her office, while I was at Precint. Although, I’m really worried about what she’ll say about the hot-dog incident.
The heat is heavy and opressive, and I’m already breaking a sweat. I’ll lie down for a couple more minutes, then go get Denni. Putting my sunglasses on, I lie back down, and close my eyes.
Slowly, I wake up. Groggily opening my eyes, I look around. Crap! I fell aslepp! I check my phone, and it’s been forty-five minutes since Denni texted me. If I thought she’d be a bit pissed off about the hot dog incident, she’ll practically kill me for this.
Hopping up, I whip off my sunglasses and look around the beach for her. I begin to jog down the streach of sand, calling out ‘Denni!’. I turn my attention down to the water, and I see a familiar figure standing knee-deep in the water, walking towards where I used to be. I run down to her. “Denni!” I yell, waving my hand.
Forty-five minutes later, still unable to find Colt or Uncle Mal, I resort to wading around in the water. I tried texting him again about twenty minutes ago, but that one wasn't even opened. Frustrated, I am about to just give up and go home when I hear my name being called from somewhere behind me. I turn around and squint into the white-hot sun. Despite the aid of my sunglasses, its brightness nearly blinds me, making my eyes water slightly.
"Denni! Hey, Denni!" I hear again. This time, I make out the shape of someone—presumably Colt—sprinting down the beach and waving like a madman. Although I'm fairly pissed that he left me hanging for almost an hour, I can't help but smile in amusement as other beach-goers cast him odd looks as he runs by, sand spraying out from behind him.
I wade out of the water and slip my flip-flops back on before walking forward to meet him. We greet each other with a hug and quick peck on the lips, but then, remembering I'm mad, I scowl, "What the heck were you doing? I've been here by myself for like, an hour. And what in the world," I continue, just now noticing that large spots of ketchup and mustard stain his being, "happened to you?"
