Have a piece of my mind...
This is a personal montage of my trip to America. As a creative practitioner I love film making and the art of vlogging, however my daily lifestyle consists of vegetating on the couch binge watching youtube.
Overdetermination
From a simple slip of the tongue, to an explosion of murderous emotions present within a night mare, Mansfield (2000, p.30) highlights how such nuances can expose the collision of the unconscious, with reality. Overdetermination is the manifestation of every single little thing that contributes to our identity. There is more than one piece to the puzzle. Within my blog I have drawn from the notion of reflection, piecing together the puzzle of my past and how it has impacted my present. However, sometimes you don’t want to look too deep because “you can’t handle the truth.” (A Few Good Men 1992).

Sensory Knowledge
I can touch, I can feel, I can sense the world around me. Through sight, sound, smell, taste and touch, the world is able to manipulate the way I feel. ‘Skinscapes’ illustrates that I am able to develop not only an understanding of the world around me, but the world that exists inside me though my senses (Howes 2005 p.27). If we do not have any senses, do we really exist? I am a very tactile learner, I need to be able to touch and see to understand. I have tried to depict this within my blog with strong emphasis on seeing the world though my eyes.

Authenticity
Authenticity is beyond honesty. This video shows that it is a willingness to be vulnerable, having the courage to allow people an insight into who we really are, what we really feel (Robbins 2013). Although I may hesitate to expose who I really am because it instils a sense of vulnerability, as a creative practitioner I am able to depict my true self though imagery, colour and metaphor. My blog is almost a vignette of my authentic self. A little portal into my past present and future. I endeavour to be true, authentic and honest, sometimes you just have to read between the lines.

Stephen Wiltshire is an artist who draws and paints detailed cityscapes. He has a particular talent for drawing lifelike, accurate representations of cities, sometimes after having only observed them briefly.

Essentialism
I am me. I will always be me, regardless of the world that surrounds me. The little person that was born 19 years ago is in essence, the same me that stands today, and will still be the same me when I’m 83. Essentialism is the belief that identity is somewhat static, that the foundation of one’s identity is inherited through upbringing and remains the same for their existence. Although this may contradict ideologies of subjectivity, such concepts coexist harmoniously, and work together to forms one’s identities (Barker 2007). My blog emulates this by highlighting aspects of my childhood that are still part of my identity today.

Creative identity
Creative identity is how I identify as a graphic design student. In the Week 2 Lecture it was taught that creative identity is what graphic design means to me (Johnson 2017). As a creative practitioner I have always been obsessed with design and aesthetics, the unity of form and function. Whether it be a building, a car, or even and advertising campaign. I see myself as someone that obsesses over detail, and is always failing to obtain perfection. My blog is a narrative of my creative identity. I love to draw, I love a pun, I love to build, and I love nostalgia. But above all I love symmetry.
