Alex Kingston Appreciate Week Master Post!
Day 1: What was my introduction to Alex? My mom used to watch ER when I was a kid, so I first saw her in that. Then, years later when I was beginning my 20s, I became a fan of Catherine Tate and began watching Doctor Who. When I saw Silence in the Library for the first time, I have to admit that I wasn’t completely blown away by River Song. I thought she was just another one-off character. Luckily, my friend Jennifer became mildly obsessed with Alex, and one day I decided to check her out on Youtube (more on that later). I’m certainly glad I did because I found a new love. For Alex in a period piece, I would have to say that my favorite is Moll Flanders. Not only for the nudity (sorry, she has an amazing body), but she has the most screen time, and I love looking at her beautiful face!
Day 2: When Alex made me feel all the feels. Oh, Lord! Where to start? Nearly all of Doctor Who, when Ella overdosed on Ecstasy and Mark died, when Jemmy left her, when Portia was a greedy bitch, the amazing car scene from Sordid Things (my favorite in the entire movie), and that’s all I can come up with right now. A time when she made me laugh… always. She’s a very spunky and funny woman!
Day 3: Favorite interview would have to be the infamous Rampant Rabbit on Craig Ferguson. It was the very first interview I watched with her, and that’s when I fell in love with her adorableness and lack of a filter. As for a movie of my imagining, I actually had a dream of watching a trailer for a non-existent film she was in called Breathing. In it, she was probably about 8 months pregnant, and one day her husband confessed to her that he was gay (if I remember right, he was played by Anthony Edwards).
Day 4: My favorite acting partnership would have to be her and Matt. They had palpable sexual chemistry, and I like to imagine that they did have an affair while filming together. My favorite Alex quote… I think it would have to be her super power of happiness. Whenever I think about or am reminded of it, I remember how much she makes me happy, even when I’m not looking at her in person, or she’s not looking at me. Just thinking about her brings a smile to my face, even when smiling is the last thing I want to do.
Day 5: Favorite non-River Song role. I would have to choose Elizabeth Corday. She’s so feisty and not afraid to speak her mind, a trait I would love to have because I internalize my feelings way too much until they explode. My favorite recurring theme would have to be her affinity to play such badass women!
Day 6: My favorite Alex decade would probably be her thirties because that’s when she was most active (not that she isn’t now, but new roles for her are few and far between). She’s taught me to be confident in who I am, though I never live by that, and not be ashamed to be myself (again, something I don’t do because of anxiety about how people perceive me). She has inspired/influenced me by having some terrible experiences in her past and surviving them, showing me that no matter how bad things get, I can survive too.
Day 7: Happy Birthday, my queen!!!! Thank you so much for existing! I’m so happy I’ve had the opportunity to meet you not only once but three times, and hopefully more in the future. You are the literal light in the perpetual darkness of my mind, and my Patronus! I love you more than you’ll ever know.
