“you can’t help but feel a little on edge around here these days” she sighed and looked into the content of her coffee cup. The murder had shaken the town to it’s very core and even to Aoife it was obvious that people were more affected than they were letting on.

Noah had sat with his mother and the rest of the pack during the meeting. He’d listened as Daphne spoke and any of the other leaders that had had something to say. He had a notepad and had alternated between taking notes and sketching along the edges of the pages when he really needed to focus. After the meeting his mother had assured him that she would be okay heading back home, even making one of the other pack members promise to go with her to make him feel better about it. Better to have two wolves against a threat than one wolf and a stupid human. That had been his thought at least.

He was busy looking down over his notes as he walked, probably not the best idea, when he felt someone walk into him…or maybe he had walked into them

“I umm it’s - it’s okay. I’m in one piece. Are you okay?”

“yeah i’m completely fine. i’m so sorry for crashing into you, I wasn’t looking where I was going” she apologised again not knowing what else to say to him. He must think that she’s so rude to not take notice of people around her. “I was thinking too much about what I was going to buy for dinner” she confessed with an awkward laugh. “It was all I could think about during that forum meeting”

Aoife felt wildly uncomfortable in the town since the murder. An event that was supposed to be fun and to bring everyone together ended in tragedy and heartache. She saw what it had done to people around the town. People were frightened, they were angry, they wanted answers. Now people eyed people like they were strangers. Treading on glass around one another. It seemed everyone was a suspect and no one was safe. 

Leaving the town meeting, Aoife hugged her arms to her chest and kept her head down while she headed to go pick up some groceries. She was lost in her own thoughts when she didn’t realise she was walking right in to someone until it was too late. 

“Oh my god, I’m so sorry! Are you okay”

“Just for a couple hours,” Daphne said with a smile, lifting her book some to indicate she’d been reading. “It’s Aoife, right? How are you?” She didn’t know the woman well, but she’d seen her around Sunnybrooke enough to have introduced herself. There was something about Aoife that drew Daphne to her, and she wanted to get to know her better.

“A couple of hours are better than none” she smiled. “Yeah, I’m Aoife. I’m surprised you know my name. I’m good thank you. How are you?” Aoife knew about the Faerie Queen, how could she not. The royals and the leaders were obviously known around the town. Daphne seemed too sweet to be who she was but Aoife saw that as a refreshing trait that she needed around.

Daphne sat on a bench in one of Sunnybrooke’s parks. Although she had a book in her hand, she wasn’t reading but instead watching the people and nature around her. When she heard someone approach, she looked over with a smile.

“Hello. Lovely day, isn’t it?”

Aoife was wandering around the park, occasionally looking out onto the crowd of people also taking advantage of the nice weather. People lazing around on the grass, some by the pond, some musicians chilling out in the bandstand - it was truly a peaceful day.

“It does get a little annoying.” Luna explained with a shrug. “This idea that because I am a human I am somehow weak…” she should be biting her tongue…but it slipped out. “I just don’t believe weakness and moratality are one in the same. You know?”

“I don’t think humans are weak. Okay, humans may not have the same abilities of the supernatural but you guys are so strong mentally” she smiled softly “There’s something about the inner strength of humans that only belong to them and no one can take that away from you”
