When I first watched Our Beloved Summer, my first thought is that Ung loved Yeon Su so much, maybe much more than she deserved. But as the story progressed, we saw more of Yeon Su's point of view and I changed my mind.
We all know Yeon Su is the bossy type. She has a very strong personality, the total opposite of our easygoing Ung. She's like a bulldozer, while Ung's a doormat.
She forced Ung to study, she forced Ung to change his hairstyle, she forced Ung to drink jujube tea and exercise. She made the rules in their relationship and Ung followed. She broke up with Ung, and he had no choice but to accept.
She is very opinionated and she always thought she was right. That is why I was expecting her to lecture Ung when he said he has no ambition, he doesn't want to strive for success, he practically just want to be a bum. I was surprised that she never said anything. She never told him to do better. Be better.
I thought she broke up with him because they are too different. They have different goals and aspirations. I thought she would rather find someone who has the same values and her outlook in life as her. Someone like Ji Ung maybe? Or Mr. Jang?
Yeon Su never forced Ung to change. Except for that time she accompanied him to a salon to get a different hairstyle, the things she forced Ung to do are actually aligned to what he wanted. He wanted to go to a university, she forced him to study. He wanted to sleep properly, she forced him to drink that terrible tea and to exercise. She forced him to go on a trip because she knew he wanted to go to the sea and he would rather stay with her than study abroad for 6 months.
And well... he wanted a stress-free life, so she broke up with him when she is going through a rough patch. ššš
I love that Yeon Su never asked Ung to change. He decided to change himself. At the same time, Yeon Su tried to change herself to make their relationship work. But Ung put his foot down and declared that he likes her for who she is.
They're just perfect for each other. ā¤ā¤ā¤
I hope they they don't screw up the last 2 episodes, and I hope my babies get a happy ending.
