Blackfish Ignored by Oscars

The biggest and most powerful documentary of 2013 has not been nominated for an Oscar.

Because of this incredible film, SeaWorld attendance dropped, major celebrities told fans to boycott, and captivity was discussed on a global level. 

Blackfish made a true impact.

Director Gabriela Cowperthwaite talked about a possible Oscar nomination in an interview last month: 

“As a documentarian you’re just hoping that your film goes out there and does good work. To think you might get the biggest filmic acknowledgement in the world—I just don’t have any words.”

Was Blackfish made to be recognized by the Academy? No. It was made to expose the truth. Is it Oscar worthy? Definitely, as it opened the eyes of many around the world. 

But don’t be too upset - Blackfish received a BAFTA nomination for best documentary!
