Madison's smile glows just a bit more at that, already feeling lighter at Ame's sincerity. "Awww, is that why you two are matching? How adorable! A familiar, grounding comfort, no matter where you are."
"It doesn't need to be super romantic to be worth hearing, anyway. You guys played games together, yeah? It's only natural you try to sync up when you play with someone."
"Oh, we sure did~" Harley chirps, bouncing on her shoes to pull Ame closer by the waist. Nuzzling into her shoulder, affection flooding her chest. "I thought she was a rookie at House of The Dead, but turns out, she's much more competitive than I thought. She dared me to hit on her, and got all fluuuustered when I did~"
"Oooh, how spicy! Did you two get to play against each other?"
"Nah, but we worked together to kill all the zombies! She definitely wanted those points, and I could tell she had fun with the flamethrower. After that, I gave her my pepper spray to be safe."
"I still wish you walked with her, or called a cab, but... at least you're both alright."
"If I remember correctly, you two got into an argument. Harley likely felt guilty, having instigated it in some way. The spray was a peace offering, no?"
"Well yeah, but," Harley pauses, looking to the floor. Uncertainty grips her heart like ice, spikes of fear dangerously close to stabbing through her chest. The last thing she wants is to give her friends more reasons to think the worst of Ame, especially Yuki.
She'd given everyone in the group a general idea of how their relationship developed, but she'd made sure to keep specific details out of it. She'd kept her word, keeping Kangel and any details about Ame's personal life out of the conversations.
As much as she loved Ame, she knew those weren't her stories to share. That's why she wanted everyone to meet in person, after all.
Reminding and affirming herself of her resolve, she squeezes Ame's hand.
"It's in the past, now. We made up by the restaurant."
She turns to her lover with a soft glow decorating her cheeks, ensuring she wouldn't be left out of the exchange.
"The fact that she went out of her way to return the spray, even though she didn't know where I'd be... I thought it was really sweet. Plus, I did get her that ride home, in the end."
Unfortunately, space that was meant for Ame to speak, was instead seized by Yuki. Lying in wait, eyes focused on reading Ame's expressions, body language, before finally deciding to strike.
Sizing up her opponent, before going on the offense. A familiar strategy she's used before, though her calculations were less refined than they are now.
"What were you arguing about?"
"Um," Harley gulps, her previous confidence faltering. The question throws her off-balance, but she decides to be truthful. As much as she can, while guarding Ame's secret. "I found out she was a hater of mine who kept leaving nasty comments, but... that was it. It's been 7 months now, she obviously doesn't do that anymore."
Madison interjects, suspecting where Yuki is steering the ship, and trying to turn back.
"Harley mentioned this all back in January. Given how often they're around each other, I doubt Harley wouldn't know if Ame was still sending her hate."
"I wouldn't be so sure." Yuki remarks, pulling up evidence on her phone.
Shots of every single comment full of vitriol from Ame, at a time before she'd even met Harley in person, are shown through her screen for all to see.
And the final blow, the messages Ame had sent to Harley during her pain episode.
■ Hacchan, are you awake?
■ is that it? you're just going to ignore me?
■ Harley if you keep doing this I'm gonna get angry and you don't want to see that
■ I swear to god I'm going to fucking kill myself if you abandon me
■ but not before I dump you
■ please I'm willing to give you another chance if you answer, please
Sage grimaces, distraught at both the words on screen and Yuki not heeding her prior advice. Madison reads carefully, managing to maintain a neutral face—albeit with furrowed brows, still skeptical about some details.
Harley's heart shatters into her stomach, remembering how she'd begged her to give Ame grace in that moment. Realizing that, while Yuki had held off in order to stabilize Harley, all bets were off now that Harley was in better condition.
"Yuki, you can't do that-!"
Yuki stares daggers into Ame, unrelenting until she's hit a bullseye and cornered her target. An assassin stalking their next hit, searching for sore spots to pierce.
"It's not the first time you've put Harley down. That's the whole reason the two of you met, after all. Though, I suppose the same woman who thinks Harley is 'a fat disgusting pig', an 'ugly cunt', and thinks Harley killing herself would do the world a favor... wouldn't change her habits so easily."
