I dont wanna give up too much identifying info but I'm part of an effort of local researchers to inform people not to participate in this and to try and pressure the NU admin into doing something about this. If you've never heard of Michael Bailey just google the fucksaw incident to get started – he is no longer allowed to teach undergrads. He's got a long history of falsely trying to pathologize transness as autogynephilia/androphilia. He had a 2023 paper fully retracted because of participant privacy issues, his consent forms are a joke, and I can't even get into all the sampling bias and other methodological issues with that paper. He and Littman are trying to push this hypothesis of "rapid onset gender dysphoria", which is the idea that kids go on the internet and that's what makes them trans. Their third collaborator on this current project, Kenneth Zucker, was a conversion therapist for decades until his practice was shut down. Not only is this study harmful for its participants, and not only does pushing this pseudoscience hurt all trans folks and everyone in general, but their recruitment for this study is impeding actual scientists at NU. Trans researchers (both people researching trans issues and social psych researchers who are trans lol) are struggling to recruit for their own studies because folks are terrified to sign up (and for good reason). They're getting questions from patients about whether they work with Bailey and whether they can trust their data will be kept private. This is destroying our ability to get real affirming science about trans health and healthcare out there and phew I just needed to rant about how much I fucking hate this guy
