Hola! Part 3/??? of questions
Hope you're thriving and surviving. When it comes to the 80sverse what is one thing you like and one thing you dislike about each chipmunk and chipette.
Hi! Thanks for asking, I'm doing pretty good actually (if you check my main blog, you'll see why).
This is a good question. I'm gonna answer this more objectively based on character design, rather than personality traits that I like/dislike about them.
Like: I like how hilariously delusional he is. He always thinks he can walk on the sun, but also his mind is SO imaginative and leads to the funniest scenes in the show. Either that or how dramatic he can be sometimes.
Dislike: I dislike how he treats women sometimes đŹ. Not only does he simp for way older women, but he also uses language that's demeaning and offensive, even if unintentionally. I know this is an 80's cartoon and it was more normalized back then, but it doesn't make it any less weird.
Like: SARCASM! I love his one-liners. They are so funny and usually contribute to the episode's humor.
Dislike: I wish he was more against Alvin in the earlier seasons. He doesn't really grow a backbone until later on, and it's nice to see him banter with Alvin and be more of his foil. I dislike it when he just goes along with what Alvin is doing. It feels out of character to me.
Like: I love his one-liners as well. He's so obliviously hilarious, and the fact that he's confused half of the time makes it even better. I also love his genuine kindness and compassion! The cutest baby there is.
Dislike: I hate how his character is heavily reliant on his weight and eating habits. The fat jokes are super outdated, and as much as I'm fine with him being a foodie, the whole "eating a lot" joke with a fat character is also outdated. It's funny until it isn't.
Like: I'm gonna try to keep my bias brief, but I tend to gravitate towards Brittany's character type. She's a diva, but deep down, she's vulnerable. She just wants to be loved, and there is so much you can explore with that. I just love girlbosses who are also girlfailures đ.
Dislike: Her color palette. I'm just not into the pink and yellow combo (though it is SO her), and I wish her hair was lighter. In my head, she's a ginger :(.
Like: I love how interesting her character is. She's shy and anxious like Theodore, but smart like Simon. She's plays into the wallflower trope, but she also has very strong opinions and isn't afraid to express them. Jeanette is HERSELF and doesn't try to be other than that. It's actually fascinating to see in a female character from this time period.
Dislike: The clumsy gags. Similar to Theodore's fat jokes, this gets old quickly. We get it, she's clumsy. She needs her glasses to see. Why don't we see that with Simon? It's a stupid trope from the 80's used to pick on people with poor eyesight. Odd.
Like: I love how nuanced and different Eleanor is. She's an athletic tomboy who also dresses feminine and takes on a nurturing role. She loves to cook, but also loves sports. She's an overweight character who very rarely gets picked on, and regularly exercises. She's such a feminist icon and she is SO overlooked it hurts.
Dislike: Ironically, the same reason for the liked part. She's so nuanced and different, that the writers didn't really know what to do with her. Was she going to stand up to Brittany when she was being a brat, or was she gonna give in? Is she a nice person, or is she snippy? Does she like Theodore, or no? There's so many conflicting episodes, it's hard to gauge her actual personality. I wish the show was more consistent.
Hope this is what you wanted! If you want me to talk about their personalities, I can do that too. Thank you again for the ask!
