Miss Fisher’s Murder Mysteries (2012-2015) ↳ 1x01 Cocaine Blues
Rewatching MFMM and this never gets old.
I have no one irl I can discuss Miss Scarlet with (it usually doesn't stop me though, but I do try to limit it to a sane amount), but no matter how much I talk to my friends about it, they won't ever grasp the true extent of everything related to it, because they never watched and never will watch the show, and that's okay. So here I am speaking into the abyss. Hi!
You know, I've been thinking about Stuart's departure. And I'm really starting to think he was right in leaving. Don't get me wrong, I'll miss him immensely, he's a great actor and somewhat of a comfort in the show since we've known him, we know his motivations, we've grown to like him, etc. I like his and Eliza's banter and bickering, but I never did like their romance all that much.
Looking back, in my opinion, they acted more like older brother/younger sister than familial friends with romantic attraction. And I probably would have liked them even more if they never even had that romance aspect, but I'm not sure, since I'm thinking about this retroactively not way back when, when I first started watching the show.
I'll miss William coaching Fitzroy, but I'm also curious how Phelps will approach the subject, since they seem to be on better terms, and maybe more professional than what William and Fitzroy had.
Perhaps William's absence will also provide us with more opportunities to see our favourite side characters and Eliza interacting, eg. Fitzroy (Does he still have a crush on her? Has he moved on? If he still hasn't, will Phelps notice? How will he react?), Ivy and Mr Potts (Will they get married this season? Will Ivy move out? [I know lots of us have been pondering this specific question, as quite a few fanfics imagine this scenario.]), I'd love to see Moses return along with Solomon.
I've seen people mention that Eliza is in dire need of a female friend, and I have to agree. I'd love to see a past female character return, with a vengeance (not literally). My top candidates would be Clara Simms from season 1 or Arabella Acaster, which might be controversial. I'd love to see them make up and move on. Because, I might be wrong in thinking this, but aren't they the two sides of the same coin?
I realise I haven't mentioned Nash yet. I'm excited to see his trial and all the difficulties they will have to deal with it during and after. Once he's free and Eliza rejoins Nash & Sons (if she even will, who knows?), will he leave for Paris, or will he stay? Will Eliza go with him perhaps? So many opportunities. I love it.
I wanna see Patrick and Eliza get closer, whether in the form of friendship or perhaps more, I'd be happy with whichever.
I just want to see Eliza thrive with people surrounding her who love, cherish and support her. (Obviously realistically still and deservedly so, it would be boring if it were all sunshine and rainbows, ya know?)
I hope all the pitchfork action on the internet hasn't put too much of a damper on the Miss Scarlet team's excitement that the show's been renewed and they get to work together again.
A random thing that I just really wanted to mention, which is, um, just how amazing it was to see Eliza and Patrick literally sitting together at the end of 4x4 celebrating and LAUGHING TOGETHER about her being the one to crack the case. Eliza looked so happy being there with patrick, which in turn made my shipper heart for them absolutely crumble 🥺😩 ( I've honestly not seen Eliza be that happy before.... 👀). She was so in the moment that she actually forgot that William wanted to speak to her, lol. Also, I definitely caught that quick camera turn back to patrick with him, looking disappointed that she was leaving.
100% agree with this and also with the comments on the original post.
Miss Scarlet and the Duke
I started watching this show ages ago but it took me until learning that one of the actors was leaving the show to really just binge it all. I have thoughts, some may be unpopular.

Sanditon Season 2 Romance Tropes
Love triangle between the heroine, a charming military officer, and a wealthy antisocial gentleman with a mysterious past
2. Heroine works as governess for cranky widower who has forgotten how to love
3. Governess heroine reminds employer how to love by encouraging him to bond with his ward(s)
4. Man suddenly realizes that woman is beautiful once he sees her wearing make-up and a push-up bra for the first time
5. Starving artist seduces heiress through portraiture
6. "Unattractive" yet smart man helps the "attractive" yet stupid man win over the woman who is both attractive and smart
7. Older, wiser sister tries and fails to warn her younger, naive sister against falling for a worthless man
8. Young girl desperate to go to the ball is finally allowed to go, but has nothing to wear. Makeover time!
9. Girl needs to be rescued because her corset was tied too tightly
I 100% love that Sanditon just took every trope and went with it in Seasons 2 and 3 and it WORKED.
the GALL of the writers having denham use wentworth’s ‘you pierce my soul’ to augusta
you dont deserve to speak the words, cad. i dont trust you.
Ahahaha I noticed this and eyerolled so hard while watching this scene. So many lines just copied and pasted. I don’t fault them, but I just found it funny.
Did not realize all of Sanditon series 3 was available to watch on PBS Passport! There went my day.
Spoilers ahead!
(I did get “spoiled” about the ending because I decided to get on tumblr after I watched the first episode and then immediately left to finish the rest of the series.)

Best things:
- Samuel colbourne. I’ve only seen him as Alfred in the Pillars of the Earth and I hated him in that but I liked him a lot here even though he had a pretty predictable role.
- I know he’s scummy but I did not expect to see Lockhart again, and just a few minutes of Alexander Vlahos on my screen made me happy. Even though Lockhart sucks.
- Lady Lydia! I wish she’d gotten more screen time and we knew who her secret suitor was.
- Edward’s astonishment that his aunt was preparing him for a job in the clergy. I LOL’ed.
- Charlotte and Colbourne getting their happy ending.
The rest of it was honestly OK. I enjoyed season 2 a lot, probably because I couldn’t watch it all in one go and I had something to look forward to each week (and read others’ thoughts here on each ep). Speeding through the entire season made all the suspense disappear. I didn’t really care for many of the storylines, but I did find Georgiana’s probably the most interesting.
Augusta and Edward made little sense. Was he really trying to ruin her? Was he testing himself? What was any of it? I also feel like she’s not that stupid, is she?
Poor Ralph. He honestly was completely unnecessary.
Also, why weren’t any of Charlotte’s family at her wedding? Not even her dad? Alison? I’m sure no one would even have noticed if they just put some other actor as her dad if the original one was unavailable.
Anyway, I still think no Sidney was a vast improvement but last season was more interesting, even with the captain being a cartoon villain. It all just was very predictable and I am glad that everyone is happy, but it felt so anticlimactic. I guess that’s the point as it’s the last series but even the chemistry felt very lacking. I think maybe Arthur and Harry had some decent moments and Samuel and Lady Susan were couple of the series.
Now I’m off to read others’ thoughts and look at gif sets!
Editing to add (after reading it on someone else’s post): the moment where colbourne and charlotte’s hands touch during the concert was 👌🏾🔥
I really liked the Rings of Power.
I've read LOTR and the Hobbit, I've never delve into all the other Tolkien stuff because I've just never been interested enough for all of that. So that said...
...the Rings of Power was a good fantasy show to get back into the Tolkien world. I enjoyed it, I thought the cast was decent, the stories were interesting, and overall, just so beautifully imagined. I look forward to season 2.
Downton Abbey: A New Era spoilers.
Honestly, I wish Mary had gotten a telegram that Henry had run away with someone or something just so she would have kissed Jack because whyyyy.
I've always loved Hugh Dancy but don't see him enough stuff. For the first time in a long time, I actually liked a romantic pairing for Mary and of course, nothing happens 😤
The servants getting to dress up and be in a film, that was too much 😆😆
Thank god it wasn't a complete ripoff of Singin' in the Rain. As soon as Myrna opened her mouth, I knew where it was heading.
The whole thing was just so fluffy and sweet for the most part, I enjoyed it. Fellowes does better with a film format - more condensed and his plots don't go all over the place.
Edith owning her role as boss lady was awesome. And Bertie's gaffe with Myrna looooool. Priceless.
Seriously though, can Henry just be gone already? I so wish we'd never gotten him.
Absolute favorite two moments: Jim carter and Imelda Staunton in the hat shop and Jack Barber asking if he could kiss Mary.
Just watched Riches. I enjoyed it, fun and a bit twisty and somewhat predictable. But I am hoping there's a second series because I want more!
Also...Brendan Coyle looks so much older and I'm reminded that Downton is 12 years old and...well, I feel a lot older.
Enjoy Riches!
Latest addiction has been Sex Education.
I started watching it mainly for Ncuti Gatwa as he's going to be the new Doctor. Surprise, I basically loved pretty much every character on the show. (spoilers below)
I could do a rundown of everything and everyone but I just really have nothing more to say than it's such a well done show. I appreciate that it's not just about teenagers having sex but it looks at friendship, family relationships, emotional growth in both grownups and young adults. The only thing that was kind of meh was Hope Haddon. She was such a cartoon villain that I could have done without her, tbh. The whole kids wearing signs as punishment was taking it so far. All these kids have phones, none of them posted on social media about a tyrannical headmistress shaming the students in such a way? Come on now.
That was probably my only issue. I would have liked to have seen Eric be more patient with Adam but maybe we'll see how that goes next season. Some of the cast aren't returning so that'll be interesting too. I'm guessing they'll probably end the series after this season or tie up Eric's story as he'll soon be the Doctor.
But anyway. I don't generally binge shows but this one was my 2022 summer binge. It always ends up being a British show with so much heart (see Lovesick, summer 2020).
Sanditon season 2 finale (SPOILERS!!!)
Most of these are very spoiler-y, i don't know to do the little cut anymore on tumblr.

- I'm 100% ok with how it ended, we know there's one more season coming.
- I'd rather have charlotte and colbourne have more proper time spent together before realizing they want to get married than just react to all the emotions. That was a super emotional moment that led to their first kiss and I'm glad he also talked about the general inappropriateness of it, given the nature of their professional relationship. And even though I've watched that kiss scene about a million times, I'd rather see them really get to know each other and have a somewhat equal footing before they marry.
- because they will marry.
- speaking of marriage, I'm so thrilled for Alison and Fraser! That came about very quickly but they are such a cute couple and that wedding + dance was everything.
- Ahhhhhhhhhh I totally did not see that Charles Lockhart thing coming and I am SO MAD we got so little Alexander Vlahos this episode. Thanks for spoiling everything, Sidney!
- I don't know what it says about me that I really believed he was being sincere. I wish Georgiana would find some happiness. Maybe Lockhart will return repentant next season? I just really like Alexander Vlahos and want to see his pretty face.
- Esther/Clara/Edward ended pretty much as I expected. I love love loved Lady Denham taking such pleasure in what's coming Edward's way. And yay for him getting kicked out of the military too, he really needed to get it all taken away from him.
- please can we have both Babingtons next season? And can Esther be happy?
- The Parker Brothers against Colonel Lennox was so good even though the tension was over the top.
- I haven't liked Lennox at all but the scene where he talks to Leonora and his facial expressions that whole time...that was good. He seemed like a genuinely nice person there.
- even when he tells colbourne not to mess it up with Charlotte. He was smarmy but I guess I kind of appreciated that he was kind of looking out for Charlotte?
- did not expect to enjoy Ben Lloyd-Hughes but well. I need to find more things he's in.
- either Charlotte will have a really long engagement and colbourne will come back and it will get broken. Or she'll marry Ralph and he'll die and she'll have property or something or the other and it will all fall into place for her to marry Colbourne. Who knows.
Six episodes flew by! I genuinely enjoyed this season, WAY more than season one. And I really do feel like colbourne, as flawed as he is, is a much better match for Charlotte than Sidney. Again, I'm biased and I feel like the good girl falls for bad boy thing last season just didn't fit well at all, and Theo James was also very meh to me. His "broody" didn't work for me. But Colbourne's "broody" works better for me. YMMV. It was very hard to take season 1 seriously, and this season just fits better into what I'm used to with period dramas. Maybe that's what it is 🤷🏾♀️
In any case...maybe I'll rewatch it all because now we have to wait until next year.
Ok but like seriously. Sanditon season 2 is SCORES better than season 1. You can tell everyone has grown up. The writing is better, the story's better.
Some thoughts up to episode 5 (SPOILERS):
- I'm absolutely loving Georgiana and Lockhart. Love love love. I just hope that everything works out there.
- Ok so when is Clara going to help Esther because we know that's what's going to happen, right? My really bad take is that she's already told Esther what's up, Esther is pretending to be crazy so Edward believes it, Clara will marry Edward and somehow get rid of him so that her son is legitimate + the heir and Edward is out of the picture.
- I need happy Esther and I want to see her and Babington together so badly. They were easily the best part of season 1.
- Colonel Lennox gave me icky vibes the moment he came on screen and as soon as Charlotte landed the governess job it became very obvious that Lennox was going to be the Wickham of the story.
- Colbourne is a major upgrade from Sidney, Charlotte. Count your blessings.
- I'm so glad Arthur is not just the overweight bumbling sibling this season. He got a major upgrade this season. And thank goodness they got rid of the annoying wet blanket sister.
- Fraser is so wonderful and I'm so glad they didn't drag Alison and Carter on for too long. And that Fraser very beautifully made his feelings known.
- the sugar boycott and the reaction of the guests at the garden party to Georgiana's stance was so good.
I watched season 1 a few weeks ago while on an Austen kick and I was not impressed. Theo James was - sorry - the worst Austen lead I have ever watched on screen. His voice was grating. I could never understand the coupling of him and Charlotte. So I was glad they didn't actually end up together. And I was really happy he didn't return this season. I just don't think he fit the bill for a period drama hero tbh. He's good looking but he overdid the brooding, snobby gentleman.
While season 2 is predictable if you've watched/read enough of these stories, I just feel like all the actors fit their roles so much better. Even Charlotte is less annoying to me. So I'm enjoying this season a lot better.
Tom said it best, paraphrasing here: "who needs Sidney?"
Schitt’s Creek is one of the most wholesome shows I have ever watched.
- I don’t think I’ve been as invested in a fictional couple as I am with Patrick and David.
- Alexis and Ted were pretty great too.
- I can’t get enough of the gifs from this show.
- Every single character on this show (even Roland, who just was there for awkward laughs) was great.
- BRB, I’m going to go watch all the extras from this show because I waited too long to watch and get into it.
- In the same vein, I’m glad I waited until all six seasons aired so I could finish it without knowing what happens next.
- this is a show I wouldn’t mind a reunion special or something.
Lovesick (Scrotal Recall) 1.05: Bethany
I loved this scene. I know he ditched his girlfriend but the importance of being there for his friend when she’s so upset = just great.
I also watched the most recent Emma film, which I did enjoy. I thought it was actually really funny - there were moments when my husband and I laughed out loud. Overall, I really liked it, but I have to say that this Mr. Knightley is probably my favorite version. I think Johnny Flynn did a great job in the role and super swoon-worthy. I loved the 2009 miniseries but this one is a great addition to the adaptations of Emma.
Also, the scene with Bill Nighy near the end and Emma and Knightley’s scene - sheer perfection for this slapstick romantic comedy fan.
