Your bitch doesnt get a gold star for finally getting political after 28 years... I attended my first protest when i was 16 and worked for my first political campaign when I was 18. She doesnt get applause for doing the bare minimum. God I hate talentless white people

Taylor has made her position on various issues clear numerous times in the past [ see this article for example: https://www.buzzfeed.com/ryanschocket2/10-times-taylor-swift-used-her-platform-to-take-a-stance], so her voicing her views on certain issues now isn’t as out of the blue as people are making out. Being such a prominent public figure I can understand why she kept out of politics in the past and I respect her decision to, but the fact of the matter is the political climate has changed and that’s something that’s affected everyone and changed the way we feel about and approach certain issues and so she has decided to change her approach accordingly. Could she have done so earlier? Sure but now more than ever it’s important that people educate themselves on political issues, use their voice and exercise their right to vote.

This isn’t about praising her for doing ‘the bare minimum’ as you viewed it. Taylor has a big platform and is able to reach large groups of people through having such a large following. She eloquently voiced her views and explained her reasons for taking that political stance and then encouraged others to educate themselves and to vote for whomever most closest matched their values. She expressed the importance of doing so which can also be easily overlooked. She encouraged people to think for themselves and do what they think is right. It’s easy to think that your voice doesn’t matter, because as an individual how are you ever going to change things? But when people collectively come together great change can come about. Taylor undeniably has a degree of influence over her following, especially younger individuals. Either way, her making that statement was heavily reported in the news. A lot of the time, the things she says are twisted and negatively spun for no reason other than it seems to be trendy to hate her, so you can see why she could have been apprehensive; but she chose to be brave and to take a stand anyway in the hopes that it would add to the conversation and inspire more people to vote. It’s great that you were involved in politics from such a young age, but perhaps now younger individuals and those that were apprehensive can feel more encouraged and motivated to vote when they are eligible to as well. Already it’s seemed to have had a significant positive impact; since her post more than 166,000 people newly registered to vote and 42% of them were between 18-24*. This was more than in any period since 2016*. More than 6,200 of those were in Tennessee [*source:https://www.nytimes.com/2018/10/09/us/politics/taylor-swift-voter-registration.html]. She’s come a long a way and has been more and more confident in being herself and has shown a lot of personal growth. She stood up for minorities and took a stand for what she believes is right and used her voice to encourage real positive change to happen. That’s why I am so so proud of her and so many others are too.

In terms of the whole hating ‘talentless white people’ thing, why white people specifically? In any case, she obviously isn’t talentless. Why not have a listen to her music without the the bias, read some of her poems and pieces she’s written and do more research before making such statements. You don’t have to like her or her music but at least make fair informed judgements.
