“My mission, should I choose to accept it, is to find peace with exactly who and what I am. To take pride in my thoughts, my appearance, my talents, my flaws and to stop this incessant worrying that I can’t be loved as I am.”

#Repost @nlskingston (@get_repost) ・・・ We are so excited to have current artist-in-residence Kelley-Ann Lindo at NLS for nine weeks, during which she works to expand her discourse surrounding the barrel children syndrome. . . . The term Barrel Children refers to minors left behind by one or both parents who have migrated and substitute their presence with the provision of material goods and remittance for the children. Usually packed with items representing basic food stuff, they help families and kin maintain short term nutrition and sustainability. This residency will extend the research Lindo embarked on during her residency at Alice Yard in Trinidad last year; where she focused on the concept of the barrel as a means to communicate. . . . Lindo will further attempt to decode the contents sent in barrels and the understandings communicated within them, developing conversation around the formulation of self-identity through childhood experience. . . . Kelley-Ann Lindo graduated from the Edna Manley College of the Visual and Performing Arts in 2015. Her work was recently included in the exhibition Digital at the National Gallery of Jamaica, as well as the 2017 Jamaica Biennial. Lindo was awarded a residency at Alice Yard, Trinidad and Tobago in 2016. Her work has been reviewed in the Huffington Post, Hyperallergic and Moko Caribbean Arts and Letters. . . . #KelleyAnnLindo #NLSkingston (at Kingston, Jamaica)
