Yeah, not really. Good call though. Not that they haven’t already questioned the team, but it’s still the best place to look into right now. And it’s…fine. Clearly it’s bugging you. I wasn’t aware that tossing around a piece of over-inflated rubber made you a man now. Guess someone better let all the guys in the chess club, theater, mathletes and other non-sports related clubs know. Yeah, hopefully those start to fade. Not all of us can rock the insomniac life style.

“I agree, the football team is sketch-central at the moment. It’s kind of always bugging me? But that doesn’t mean everyone else should have to hear about it. I am sure you have your own problems, you don’t need to take on the struggles of a young gay living in a small town with his conservative father. Hey, when I say it like that it sounds like it would make a pretty good book. Maybe I’ll work on that. Oh, I don’t put any value into Football, trust me. My father and most people, however, seem to think it is the epitome of masculinity. Yeah, they aren’t fun. That’s what sleeping pills are for, though. Bless.”

I’m not entirely sure tackling is supposed to be fun under any circumstance. Really not the point though. The violent aspect is a good point, maybe it went too far with one of the other players. Interesting angle there. You’ve been having nightmares?

“I’ve been tackled in a fun way like, at least twice. You don’t want to hear about that though. Yeah, I think the football team is a good place to start. Maybe I’ll suggest it to my dad the next time I talk to him. Hopefully he doesn’t choose to turn it into a conversation about how I should be a manly man and start chasing after a ball while people cheer. Sorry, I keep doing that, don’t I? Yeah, pretty bad nightmares. I guess it is to be expected after finding a dead body. Still... I could definitely do without.”

True. In which case it may have been someone close to him. Another football player maybe? What I wouldn’t give to see Reggie in cuffs some days…Regardless, in a way, I guess it’s good you were out there. May not have found him otherwise. Expert or not, it’s a step closer to unlocking the mystery of it all, you know?

“I definitely would not be surprised if it was someone on the team. Football is pretty much just an excuse for aggressive boys to tackle each other anyway, isn’t it? Not in the fun way either, or I would have been on that team in a second. When you put it like that, I guess I’m glad I was there too. Not so glad about the recurring nightmare caused by seeing that once stunningly handsome face now suspended in agony, but those will go away. I hope.”

Especially a kid like Jason. Must’ve made some sort of enemy along the way. The question is, who? You got just as close of a look as your dad did though, Kevin. I don’t see why your word has less meaning than his in all of this. Surely you’ve got some theories of your own. I mean, did it look like anything else had gone on there?

“I guess everyone has enemies, right? I never heard anyone speak a bad word about Jason Blossom though. Seemed like everyone in town loved him. That alone might be enough motive for someone to want to take him out. People have done crazier things when mad with envy. I didn’t see much. What I did see was not a pleasant sight. I mean, I did take a tumble right over his corpse and he felt cold. Like ice-cold. Probably just the whole dead thing, or from the water? I’m not an expert.”

Yeah they were very close. In a ‘it’s a tad creepy’ sort of way. I don’t really have a top suspect at the moment. Why, who’s on your list?

“They definitely were. We probably shouldn’t say any more or Cheryl might appear in a cloud of red smoke and smack us down. I don’t really have a top suspect either. I have a few theories - I blame watching countless Murder, She Wrote marathons - but nothing concrete yet. I just can’t get over the fact that someone was murdered in Riverdale. It’s insanity.”

“You’re right, I don’t think she killed Jason and the auction was just wishful thinking. Have you seen her purse collection? It’s insane. I would kill for one of those. Not like literally, of course. God - I never used to have to worry about saying things like that. Things have gotten so weird around here.”

It’s more of a keen interest in the film noir of it all. Theories though, I always have those. My intuition tells me it’s not Cheryl, if that’s what you’re asking.

“Interesting. My dad won’t tell me anything, surprise surprise. Not that we talk about it - or anything else, really. That is what I was asking. It just seems so bizarre. Someone in this town of all places being capable of shooting a kid right in the forehead?”
