One of the many, many problems with wishing rape on anyone - even other rapists - is that is places THEIR rapist as someone delivering justice. Rape as justice can only exist if you condone and approve of a rapist. And thatâs what jokes about prison rape are about:...
"Even the darkest night will end and the sun will rise" đâ To be honest, 2014 has already been off to a rocky start. It's definitely not easy to believe that there's a light at the end of the tunnel when going through tough times, but all we can do is try..right? #sunrise #darkness #lifequotes #toughtimes #keepingmyheadup #quotes
Ellen has been waiting to make that joke since fob came back
Anti-choicers care so little about people getting abortions that they are willing to lie and KIDNAP FOLKS to harass them with an uninvited lecture and trip to a church to avoid their appointment.Â
Just holy crap this is ridiculous. These people who need this rides are depending on the kindness of strangers to assist them in a very vulnerable time when they need a lot of help. And anti-choicers want to take advantage of that to push their agenda. I mean, wow. Kidnapping. This shit is straight up illegal.
Thank god there is a vetting process to be approved to provide transportation, but WOW. The stuff that goes through the heads of the antisâŚdisgusting.
Horrifying. If you want to convince people that anti-choicers arenât against womenâs autonomy, MAYBE kidnapping them isnât the right move. Wow.

What is consent? An enthusiastic YES!Â
Critiquing famous (or any) womenâs behavior in terms of whether what they do is good for the girls or not is a sticky trap. It prevents them from being complicated, actual people working themselves out â you know, individuals? The thing we want women to be seen as? It keeps us in an endless loop of chasing after this One Correct Way for Women to Conduct Themselves. Itâs exhausting, and I refuse to buy into it, and I donât want to help christen it.
Stop Hailing Women as Good or Bad Role Models (via brutereason)
I love this because I never understood what rational, thought-out justification there could be for deriding leggings as pants. Yes, youâll see the outline of someoneâs legs and ass. So? There are plenty of other clothing that does that, and if it bothers you that much, donât look at it. The idea that oneâs aesthetic preferences should dictate OTHER peopleâs sartorial choices is incompatible with a skeptical approach to life.
Hi there, men who want to be feminists. Take a seat. Iâve noticed that youâve adopted a lot of buzzwords. You think these phrases make you seem enlightened. You think youâre proving your feminist cred.
Iâm here to tell you that youâre really, really not.
If youâve said any of these things, you need to stop, and Iâm going to tell you why:
1. âIâm really attracted to strong women.â
Wow, thanks for making female empowerment all about what helps you get your rocks off!
This might come as a shock to you, but women didnât become âstrongâ so that youâd find them more attractive. The womenâs liberation movement isnât about turning women into a race of sexy fem-bots who will kick ass and take names in latex catsuits for your enjoyment. Itâs about allowing women to express themselves however they like without having to worry about the male gaze.
Besides, who says all women have to be âstrongâ (whatever that even means)? All human beings have moments of vulnerability. Stop putting women up on a pedestal. Thatâs kinda what got us into this mess in the first place.
2. âConsent is so sexy.â
No, consent is so necessary.
Again, this is not about what you find hot. Consent is not important because it gets you aroused â consent is important because violating a womanâs bodily autonomy by coercing her into having sex with you is a crime and a denial of her humanity. Itâs not about sexiness â itâs about treating women like human beings. This would be like me saying, âgetting permission before entering someoneâs house is so sexy,â except worse, because youâre talking about a womanâs body here, and the only way you can make consent appealing is apparently by turning it into a fetish. Uncool, dude. Uncool.
3. âReal women have curves!â
Which would make all non-curvy womenâŚfigments of their own imaginations, I guess?
I am a skinny bitch. At my heaviest, I was a size 2. And I assure you that this does not make me any less real than women who are bigger than me, or differently shaped.
Body acceptance is about promoting all kinds of healthy body types, not about fetishising some and tearing down others in the process. This is no better than saying real women work out incessantly, or real women say no to that second slice of cake, or real women have D-cups. Weâre all real, whether youâre attracted to us or not.
4. âIntelligence is way sexier than looks anyway.â
Again â what the hell is it with men thinking that a womanâs characteristics can only have value if a man finds them arousing?
Some women are intelligent. Some women arenât. Some women are conventionally beautiful. Some women arenât. Some women are both of these things. Some women are neither. And none of that matters, because a womanâs worth is not defined by whether or not you can find something about her thatâll make her fuckable in your eyes.
If you need to tear some women down to prop others up, youâre not a feminist.
5. âMen experience that kind of oppression too!â
Just. stop. right. now.
Keep saying this to yourself until itâs engraved upon the inside of your brain: THIS IS NOT ABOUT YOU. Do not walk into a feminist space and start talking about your problems. There are places where you can do that, and those places are known as the entire rest of the world. Literally every other media outlet and soapbox is devoted to menâs problems and things men find important and concerning. Do you really need to bring that into womenâs spaces as well?
6. âPersonally, I think all women are sexy.â
Personally, I think youâre pretty damn full of yourself if you think all women care what you think of them.
I cannot stress this enough: women do not exist for you to find them attractive. Stop focusing attention on what you find sexy. We donât care! Either we already have partners or weâre not looking for partners or youâre not our type anyway or weâre not even into dudes and therefore couldnât give less of a damn whether you think weâre sexy or not. I realise that the world has conditioned you to see everything as a performance played out for the benefit of the male gaze, but if you actually want to be a feminist, you need to drop that right now. You need to drop it yesterday.
7. âDonât you think more people would listen to you if you werenât so emotional?â
Hereâs some emotion for you: FUCK OFF.
Do you know why women are angry at men? Theyâre angry because men have systematically perpetuated their depression for centuries. Theyâre angry because it is men who are predominantly responsible for the rape and murder of women, particularly trans women, sex workers, and women of colour. Theyâre angry because it is men who control the boardrooms and the bedrooms of the world, because it is men who stop women from being able to access affordable healthcare and education, because it is men who have set up arbitrary standards for ideal womanhood and it is men who punish women who donât meet those standards.
That anger is valid. That anger is entirely justified. We can and will express it. We have that right. If youâre the kind of guy who says, âwell, I was going to be a feminist, but your anger is really off-putting,â you were never an ally anyway â you were just a man looking for a cookie and a pat on the head. And we are alllllll out of cookies, my friend.
And even if you personally have never done any of the things I just mentioned, I really donât want to hear you sayâŚ
8. âBut I havenât done any of those things!â
Congratulations! Youâve managed to behave like a decent human being. Do you want a medal to go with that huge sense of entitlement you seem to have accrued along the way?
I am a privileged person in some ways. As a cisgender woman, I enjoy many privileges that my trans sisters are constantly denied. I have not actively participated in the denial of their rights â in fact, I work as hard as I can to ensure that they can achieve equality â but the fact remains that Iâm a member of a privileged group to which they do not belong. When theyâre angry at cis people, I know itâs not about me (because, fun fact, not everything is All About Me!). I know their anger is justified. I know theyâre not exaggerating their lived experiences. If you want to be a decent ally to women â and if youâve read this far, Iâm guessing you do â you need to shelve that sense of entitlement at the door. The fact that you are not a heinous criminal does not excuse you from being called on your privilege. Learn to sit down, shut up and listen. You might actually learn something.
Speaking of whichâŚ
9. âI havenât witnessed any of what youâre describing.â
Geez, I wonder why. Do you think it might be becauseâŚyouâre not a woman?
No, you have probably not witnessed street harassment â or you have, but it didnât register with you the way it registers with the women who are forced to endure it. You may not think you know any rapists (though odds are that you actually do, since statistically speaking, one in sixty American males will commit rape in their lifetimes). You might never have seen a female colleague be passed over for a promotion at work â probably because you werenât paying attention. Why? Because these arenât things that affect you.
Itâs pretty easy to be blind to the injustices other people face when you never have to face them yourself. Thatâs kinda how privilege works.
10. âBut I just want to help! Why are you picking on me?â
Because if you sincerely want to help, this is all stuff you need to hear.
Did you think this would be easy? Did you think being a feminist was as simple as reading something by Gloria Steinem and not raping women then showing up for your hard-earned participant ribbon? Well, boy howdy, do I have news for you: like every other worthwhile endeavour in life, itâs not that easy. Being a feminist is hard work. Itâs even hard work for women! Why do you think you deserve an easy ride?
Being an ally isnât a title you claim. Itâs not who you are â itâs what you do. And if what you do is barge into female spaces and derail conversations so that theyâre oriented around the male gaze, if what you do is whine about how you donât get enough credit for being a decent person, if what you do is baulk when you realise thereâs actual workto be done, then you are not doing the work of being an ally. All you are is a hindrance, and one we neither want nor need to put up with.
Iâm sorry, fellas, but themâs the breaks. If you want to be a feminist, you need to leave your baggage at the door. You need to go into this with an open mind and a closed mouth and a willingness to be taken down a peg or two at times. This is not your movement â this is our movement, and you will play by our rules or not at all. Donât be surprised if your self-aggrandising male ally circle-jerks are met with hostility and derision. Youâre coming into female spaces, ostensibly to help. So let go of your ego, get rid of your preconceptions and stop making it all about you.
If you want to help, we want you to help us â on our terms, not yours. Take a seat and start taking notes. You have a lot to learn.
The way society looks at sex regarding men vs women is so hypocritical I had to make a video about it. I hate double standards. If you agree please share this with your friends to spread common sense.
YES!Â
"LADIES NEED LOVIN TOO."
Someone asked us:
My friend says you shouldnât use condoms that you get for free from Planned Parenthood and other health clinics because they break easier. Is this true?
Man, it would make my little sex educator heart so happy to NEVER hear this rumor again.
I totally understand...
#condomfairies
Focusing on men who rape rather than on what victims could have done differently does not just target those particular men; it helps to reshape the culture that allows them to rape, by making it harder for them to commit assaults and get away with them. What if it were seen as not just unacceptable, but also emasculating and pathetic, to take an incoherently drunk girl up to your room, or to have sex with someone who was not fully and enthusiastically into it? If the social norm were that sex is not about âgetting someâ from women, but rather about having a great time with a partner who clearly desires you, most of the ability for campus rapists to operate would evaporate.
