I’ve taking the “Beyonce Birthday” playlist from last year to the next level. This playlist tells the story of a young Beyonce. She grew up in the church and a proud American but it’s her birthday and she wants to turn up and celebrate. First thing she does is calls all her friends and gets the crew together. She knows she looks good and isn’t afraid to let it show. She goes out flirts it up dance and meet some guys. Things turn and she falls in love with the wrong guy, he doesn't let her go out anymore, she doesn't feel the same way about herself or life. Bey is in a bad way. Eventually she realizes that he's cheating on her, but she doesn’t want to accept it right away. This is the coming to age moment of enlightenment for Queen Bey. She starts living life the right way again back to her old party ways but a little more humble. She still meets some scrubs every now and then but doesn't fall for their lies. One day she falls head over heels in love with Jay-Z and they celebrate the beauty of live with their soulmates. They will be together forever with their baby girl Blue.
The one thing I love more than watching movies, is going to the movies. Here's a list of the 11 best films I saw in theaters this year. (I thought it was 10 til I recounted...)
#11 - Earth to Echo
If E.T., Super 8, and Chronicle had a baby it would be Earth to Echo. I couldn't predict what would happen next to these kids and felt like I was on the journey with them. Without giving anything away, pay attention to all of the kid's back stories, you'll enjoy the end more. I'm waiting for the sequel and theme park ride!
#10 - Interstellar
I know a lot of people aren't going to agree that this movie sound be this low, but it almost didn't make the list. I really loved the story and the moments when they actually get into space but there was so much build up that I almost forgot what the true mission was. I don't care what anyone says, this movie was freaking LONG! Overall, I enjoyed Interstellar and think this movie will get better each time I watch it, like most Nolan flicks. The one thing that sets this movie apart from every single other movie released this year is that it set a whole new precedent for film watching and birthed the unlimited ticket. Movie goers could purchase a ticket and go see it as many times they wanted to at an AMC theater. Now that's saying something.
#9 - Neighbors
Hoo-dey-who! I think me and my friend laughed the hardest in the theater and I'm okay with that. Netflix, Redbox, Amazon; just make sure you watch this movie and get a good laugh in. I will say, you're better off not seeing any trailers and just watching it. Doesn't ruin any of the punchlines that way. Also this might be the most grown up that Seth Rogen will ever get!
#8 - Top Five
Why was this movie only played in select theaters? I cried from laughing so hard. Basically if Chris Rock had a fake reality show, think House Husbands of Hollywood, it would be this movie. So many cameos and "did that just happen" moments. Insanely relate-able although the farthest thing from my life ever.
#7 - Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit
I'm a sucker for Tom Clancy's Jack Ryan series so I'm most definitely bias; however, everyone else I know who saw this movie liked it. If you're going in order of Jack's life, this comes first but the 4 previous films aren't one series. Personally I like Chris Pine as Jack and learning how things are done right along with him. If you're interested in a good spy movie, look no further.
#6 - Edge of Tomorrow
I saw this movie multiple times in theaters. As you'll quickly see that was a theme for 2014. Far too often they make video games based on movies or movies based on video games. Edge of Tomorrow finally got it right and made a movie like a video game. Emily Blunt is the bad ass we all wish we could be while we stare at the mirror reflection of who we really are, Tom Cruise. I will admit the ending was a little too neat and tidy for my liking but leading up is everything you want it to be.
#5 - The Hobbit: The Battle of The Five Armies
I've seen all 3 Lord of The Rings and both the other Hobbit films, so I was obligated to see this movie even if I didn't want to. The Battle of The Five Armies was better than I expected it to be and ended EXACTLY as I hoped. Each fight is just as epic as the last and it all builds up to show us exactly why Master Frodo had to go on his journey. If you've already given Peter Jackson 15(ish) hours of your life then you know he will take some liberties with the original tale. If that doesn't bother you sit down and prepare yourself to take on the dragon. If you're asking what dragon, watch the second film. This one literally picks up where it left off. I'm not going to lie to you, it took me a minute to figure out what the 5th army was.
#4 - Captain America: The Winter Soldier
Another movie I watched twice in theaters, and definitely worth it. Marvel really is out doing themselves with every film they produce and the fans win every time. I'll admit the first Captain America moved pretty slow and left a little to be desired (until we meet The Red Skull), but this one carries the same swagger of The Avengers. You HAVE TO SEE THIS MOVIE, if you want to follow what comes next in The Marvel Cinematic Universe. HUGE things take place in such a small time and there's so characters that will play a bigger role later. If you watch Agents of Shield then you already know what I'm talking about. Even if you're not into super hero films, you should still enjoy this movie. Behind everything else, it's a story of friendship, trust, with a hint at love.
#3 - Maleficient
Surprise surprise I saw this twice in theaters as well. Technically I watched it two ways in a row and sat in awe both times. I think I could watch this film every day for a month and still be dazzled. Maleficent was always one of my favorite Disney villians and as a child I felt like she got a bum rap. This movie confirms my belief. Without saying too much, you'll never watch Sleeping Beauty the same way again (if at all) and ONLY Angelina Jolie could've played this role. And to everyone who said this was one of the worst movies of the year, I stare blankly in disbelief.
#2 - The Maze Runner
I was faced with a difficult decision when it came to this movie. The book has been on my to do list for years and when I heard they were making a movie I needed to decide if I was going to go see the film in theaters or should I wait until after I read the series. Being that I had just put myself through the agony of carefully avoiding the internet, television commericals, and people at work with The Hunger Games series I wasn't ready to do it all again. I'm incredibly glad I did because this film was unreal. After seeing it I had dreams about what would happen next and I cannot wait to start reading the books. DOB was amazing, and quite easy on the eyes, and I believed the boys struggle. If you haven't seen it, I feel sorry for you because this is definitely a movie that deserves to be seen in a huge dark room with the best projection system money can buy; aka the movie theater.
