Activity #12

The Environment Seminar

This project has come to take place. An outdoor seminar happened right in the vicinity of San Lucas Compound. Our speaker is non other than the environmental kagawad. I have been able to hear his objectives which are the same as the subject he discussed with us the previous time. The seminar lasts for almost an hour. I suppose some of the citizens are overwhelmed knowing they may gain with trashes. After the seminar, we have provided some foods for registered audience. A treat of spaghetti and ice tea.

Activity #11

Meeting with the Official

This day, we have meet with the Environmental Kagawad of Mambog 5. We have decided to coordinate with each other to implement awareness regarding waste disposal. He had suggested selling out recyclable garbage in order to encourage citizens to recycle or segregate their garbage.The meeting took place in the conference room of barangay hall. The kagawad were glad to have this project implemented because it might lessen the garbage rate in Bacoor. He suggested having a meeting with other barangay officials and related officers for this project.The meeting will be on that upcoming monday. He also compromised taking action for financial assistance for our trash can project.

Later that afternoon, my group decided to give the treats and supplies to the chosen family. It is kind of touching and at the same time happy to see them be glad to our simple dedication.

In that we are able to determine the true value of this immersion. We have develop sincerity and willingness to help others and do something. I suppose this immersion give us the capacity to be able to adapt ourselves in society in the future.

We tend to bond with everyone in our chosen community and be close to them just like how the goal of this project is.

Giving and Sharing

This day, I have arrived earlier in the community to organize things and groceries supply we would give to our chosen family. In this, me and Angela sorted clothes by size and packed them n separate bags. Later that morning, we go to the barangay of Mambog 5 in order to take action in implementing our project plan. Furthermore, we, my group and the Environmental Kagawad talked about waste segregation and how it can be a sideline to citizens of our chosen community.

The meeting lasts for almost half an hour and we decided to have a follow-up meeting this coming Monday, February 19 2018. We have planned to revise our plan of using tires to plastic drums as a substitute.

Output # 8

Overnight 2 : February 3 2018

I have arrived in the afternoon that day. That time, we are planning of what to give in our chosen family for next week. We are planning to donate and give some canned goods and grocery items. We are also planning to eat together as part of our farewell to the family. As for our project plan we are slowly thinking of what we may do to implement our ideas regarding the community.

We also give another dish for the family as their diner, this time, its carbonara wherein same as last time those that are left are being shared by almost nine (9) people now.

That evening, our teacher payed us a visit in the community. We have discussed our recent activities as well as our future steps in implementing our desired policy. Later on, me and my group mates shared our thoughts regarding the experience seeing that most will have their last day of immersion that night.

Later that evening, we have finally decided to change our sleep setting. I finally been able to sleep a little because I am away from Claire. I am awakened by two o clock (2:00) in the evening because of the karaoke in the neighborhood. I haven’t been able to sleep since then.

Output # 7

Overnight 1 : February 2 2018

That evening, some of my other group members arrived. We have decided to bring ingredients for that night’s dinner and share it with our chosen family. That way, we could at least help them in a simple way.

I am assigned to cook that night’s dinner, spaghetti. Wherein, it took us a lot of time to look for a missing ingredient, hotdog along Perpetual 7. Along with my fellow members, we roam around the subdivision in order to have hotdog. In the end, we buy four jumbo hotdogs which we combined with our one (1) kilo spaghetti pasta and sauce.

It took almost 30 – 45 minutes for me and Joyce to finish the dish. Later, we brought it to the family and eat with the remaining spaghetti and divide it to almost eleven (11) members.

Around ten o clock (10:00 PM) we decided to half bath and sleep. And we are set to sleep around 10:45. It was hard for me to get some sleep. Yes, I am exhausted with the day’s work but I can’t easily sleep. I sleep next to my member, Claire and she’s very frisky. That night’s lesson, I shouldn’t sleep with her next time, it makes me feel more exhausted.

Day 3 : February 2 2018

In the afternoon, after me and my groupmates had lunch, we bond with the kids in our chosen community. We took notice of hygiene that we encourage them to take a bath before we start with the proper goal of that day’s visit, cleaning and sanitizing their wounds.

We have provided their soap and shampoos and give them bath at that very poso. Since there is just one water supply, we took turns in using them and as well as the kids. After that, we put wound gel on their wounds and bribe them with candies. Those who will allow us to put wound gel on their wounds would get one.

Later, we had a story telling session wherein Ate Shei and some of my fellow groupmates tell them tales and kids’ stories.

I later talk with some moms and elders there in the community who opens how hard life is. I can see that they are just happy or satisfied sharing their thoughts to someone so I just listen. I learned a lot of life lesson that afternoon that creating a family is not as easy as one would thought it would be.

Output # 5

Day 2 : February 2 2018

This day, I have arrived earlier along with few of my group mates, Richard, Ariana, Lewis and Ate Shei. We first do the chosen family’s laundry that morning. It was not much of a hard work but what makes it hard is that the water supply comes from a water pump or poso. We are not allowed to wet the ground too much for the soil might get muddy. We have no choice but to carry bucketful of water or wash the clothes near the poso.

Me and Ariana do the work in the laundry. We took turns in pumping water and rinsing the clothes. Soon, Lewis and Richard helped us after they finished washing the dishes. I volunteered to do the hanging so Ariana could rest for she had done enough and feels tired.

I hanged the clothes with the help of Ate Shei who hands me laundry clips and hangers for the clothes. The clothes I hanged was quite many and that time I feel tired with the morning’s work.

Around 10:30 in the morning, after I finished hanging clothes, we sat in a tree shade having a good time resting and talking with one of the member of our chosen family.

Knowing the Details

Our chosen community is almost (3) three rides away from my place. We need to take jeepney to perpetual village 7 then ride a tricycle from the village’s main gate that is almost a 5 minute ride to our chosen community in San Lucas. The span range of houses covered were countable yet we found out that each house has more variable that one thought it might be. In other words, the word overloaded might suit because there are chances where a small spaced house sheltered almost 13 persons.

The first day of my interactions with the citizens of our chosen community went well. My goal for Day 1 is to gather information and analysis of our data regarding the community. I talked to several people and realized that behind every people’s action lies a reason behind it.

Community Profile

Brgy. Salcedo II, a small community on an urban setup along Noveleta Cavite. Almost 30 - 45 minutes drive from Del Pilar Academy.The community was established last 2008, when the place were moved in by informal settlers.

Perspective

A.Social Science

The community has a damped atmosphere. The grounds were soft and frightening for someone to walk on because it was just plants, garbage and water underneath. The place was a water based area long ago before it was turned into a dumpsite. It was closed on late 2008 and was sheltered by informal settlers before it became into a community soon after. There are small sari-sari store and talipapa in the area which may have been the source of income of the residents.

B. Ecological

The place was filled with garbage and filths. As someone walks into the area it is unavoidable to have the shoes or foot stuck into the soft deep mud. As an observer, I supposed they should do something about the improper disposal of the garbage to make a much more suitable place for them and the children to live. The area which is mainly trash may cause harm to human health and may be bad for children who grow up on such vicinity.

C.Sectoral

Faith Center Imus Outreach.The group established this in Noveleta Cavite to let children along the area to know more about God.Thus, they also bring joy and foods to their recipients.It is really great for children to know or be involved/belong on a purposive group.

St.Martin Hospital.Found right outside Brgy.Salcedo II, it is a private sector institution.The ironic thong is that the next affordable hospital can be found in Cavite City much farther than it should be almost two towns ahead.The next hospital in Cavite City is Sarmiento Hospital which is a public hospital that people in the lower class could afford.Though some of the citizens are admitted here on emergency times.

D.Civil Society

Barangay Council in Brgy.Hall. According to the interview to the barangay staffs one of the issues are lamp post along the community. They have provided lamp post but most of them are not working. Their reason is that the citizens should file a complain in order for them to take action. When asked why citizens shpuld file a complain first they answered that that is the correct process. One thing is that gossips are also considered as one of the community's problem. It ruins relationship between neighbors and harmony among the area.

5.Aesthetic Values

It can be noticed that neighbors along the area where we conduct our gift-giving event, people are all helping each other. Like in the picture for example, they are working hard on putting up the tent for the Baptismal celebration of one of their neighbor’s son. Though, as we have observed in the opening of the area there are many ajummas or mothers gossiping around each other which is also one of the concerns of barangay officials. They also seem to share or bond with the same interest with each other. And adapt to each other well. There are those who enjoyed playing basketball despite of the damped ground and play cards or ‘tong its’ while raining lightly.

Economical

Organizing a community bakery wherein housewives can do baking and decorating to relieve stress and earn and large amount goes to community projects.

This bakery is my mother’s friend’s. I like the idea of cooking and baking things altogether. Being a mother is quite stressful and being stuck at home is boring so I think enjoying their selves and earning at the same time profiting for the community is a win-win for both housewives and community.

Political

I want no competition among citizen. For example, homeowners are fairly elected and no one should repeat their term or takeover their position in own will.

I notice that most officials keep on repeating their term and abuse their power over the community. Giving chances for others to lead and make changes for the better isn’t a bad idea for everyone I think.

Ideal Community My Kind of Paradise

A harmonious and happy place for me to live is an ideal community to me. I would like to do normal things as a daughter, neighbor and as a citizen. This is a bit impossible for our community in reality though we already live there for almost (10) ten years now, it feels like people in our neighborhood seems distant.

A. Technological

A clean and organized way of disposing segregated garbage. Recycling things such as plastic bottles to turn into something useful.

B. Economical

Organizing a community bakery wherein housewives can do baking and decorating to relieve stress and earn and large amount goes to community projects.

C. Political

I want no competition among citizen. For example, homeowners are fairly elected and no one should repeat their term or takeover their position in own will.

D. Institutional

I want the school inside the community to be considerate of people living in the community. They should organize their ceremonies in another venue where they can’t affect citizens because of their noise.

E. Aesthetic Values

Having a patrol late at night to check safety of the citizens. This will minimize crimes or theft reported. And reminding pet owners to tie their pets and don’t let them on the loose without a guardian.

F. Beliefs

Respecting other people’s religion and don’t do too loud parade in a small subdivision and forcing to donate in another religion’s project. I want the citizens to respect their differences but creating much closer bond through friendship.

OUTPUT # 8 “Conquering Journey” As our group gather in Nueno Area, we saw a family sleeping in front of former All Day convenience store. It is composed of a husband and a wife that is only 19 years old. The mother had a 6 years old daughter and the husband is already her second husband because her first husband left them when his husband knew that they will be a having a child. The little girl’s father is in Las Pinas. The mother had been homeless since the age of 11 because she got pregnant and addicted to different bad habits because of the peer pressure on her friends. She live together with her two cousins. The family lacked but the one that caught our attention is the other kid’s mom is an overseas worker but settles himself in living in the streets because he has nowhere to go. We have given a little help of grocery items, water and clothes. They also asked us if we can go back and give them more clothes, we said yes. But when one of our groupmates went back they are not in convenience store anymore. The feeling of giving something to others who is in need gives pleasure to our hearts and that’s what we’ve learned in the activity. We’ve been a social worker that day so our number one goal that time is to reach out and help. But we still displayed some unethical behaviors, we immediately criticize and judge them. We’re afraid to reach them out because we thought that they will hurt us because the boy looks like using illegal drugs that it come to the point that they are the one who reach out for us. As we go to the exact area where they are staying we can smell the rugby that made us afraid to talk to them but as the time goes by they are very kind and cooperative. Our ethical behaviors are we accepted them as what they are as time goes by, we are sensitive in asking them questions, there is no physical touch happened except when we hug the 6 years old girl (and that’s okay), we respect their stories and we set aside our own feelings and opinions, we contribute common goods, we know our aware in our roles as a social worker for that day and we give them some of their basic needs but especially we help them lightened their day and life as well, as we give them some advices. Giving is not just about making a donations, it is about making difference. “A kind gesture can reach a wound that only compassion can heal.”

There are times when all we can do is nothing but to depend with each other 😄😊 #GROUPWORK #OBSERVARIONACTIVITY

While writing this activity, I feel like going back to the day I've experienced being a counsellor.I seem to think that being a counsellor is a bit complicated because one must put a barrier between his/her self and the client.That barrier is between the counsellor's feelings and mind frame.And I remember a line from the book I've read "In rimes of harship,those who smile are first-rate.Those who endure are second rate.And those who cry are third-rate.

Counselling Seminar

Recently, the subject Discipline and Ideas in Applied Social Sciences held a seminar regarding counselling with the help of Ms. Joy Teruel who gives us a much understanding way to know more about counselling. According to her counselling is an abstract way of analyzing a person. It is a must and not a joke to do counselling. Counselling is something one must have and it is done to regain or compose oneself to overcome problems in life.

Psychoanalytic Theory

Throughout the seminar I have encountered the Psychoanalytic Theory that one must make his/her unconscious self be conscious. The speaker clearly explains the main goal of psychoanalytic theory is to uncover the meaning of symptoms, causes of behavior and repressed materials. Thus, it also aims to strengthen the ego. It is a bit relatable because she had dig some information regarding the id-ego-superego topic which we can relate for we had tackle it in our previous year. What I found interesting in psychoanalytic theory of Sigmund Freud is that it is unique because we don’t know that simple things as habit which a part of our unconscious self determines your behavior.

Transactional Analysis Theory

This theory gives much more precise understanding with the counselee. In this, the counselee could be more at ease to release his/her feelings because of long therapy sessions wherein he/she could relax while talking to the counsellor. The aim of transactional analysis is to change, right to be in the world and be accepted which we can see is a narrow yet hard goal for the counsellor. It is well-proposed by Eric Berne.

A counsellor is someone who can be easily approached but a wise thinker. A counsellor should be someone to see the world in different angle which means a lot more easy for him/her to understand thecounselee. Other than the confidentiality, a counsellor must convey respect onto whatever the counselee convey to him/her because that will keep them going and trust between them are distinguished. This is what I’ve analyzed regarding what Ms. Teruel had said. It makes me more interested on the idea of being a counsellor.
