 Day no. 1 (Friday) Meeting the Family and Being a Babysitter

We have go to the house of ate Roselle and Miranda at 7 A. M. only to see ate roselle arranging her slipper then going inside the house, my team leader, Tabora, was the only one to go in ate roselle's room for interviewing while the rest of us settled in Ms. Miranda's house with her grandchildren.

While Tabora was interviewing the mother we talked with the lola of the family to learned that they first lived in Boracay, Cavite on 2013 but was forced to go away by the govenrment and instead live in Kalayaan, Toclong but it is not easy as before as they don't have any source of water that is free because their water pump is broken so frequently that thay just gave up on it and instead suffer to pay and carry the water for their baths, drinking and etc. Her oldest grandchildren are Nataly then Nathaniel whom is called Tantan then the youngest Rody if I remember correctly. Her oldest is the only one who go to school and learned that when Ms.Miranda accompany her grandchild to school the other siblings would also go with her for safety or that if Nataly doesn't have a uniform she wouldn't go to school.

I continue to listen to her story while some group mates would explore the house with the permition of the owners.

After the one on one talk, we decided to also get informations from the community and decided to let the other five members interview while Tabora and I stayed with the family like a buddy system. While they were gone we played with kids and were introduced to Krystal, a friend of nataly whom was also friendly like the kids and until so while the adults were out doing their stuffs.

After an hour or two the member had finished their tasked and just rested  or played with the kids. For lunch the lolo had gone back to eat with his family and so didn't disturbed them and instead just ate in Jen's house

OUTPUT no. 4: Counselling Seminar

Peak of being Counsellor

A seminar happened in Del Polar Academy main building on August 11,2017 in 9 am to 11 am with Ms. Mary Joy Teruel as the guest speaker to taught the Humss 12 students counselling.

The difference of advise to counselling is that advise is based on one individual's experiences while counselling is using the techniques, therapy, or concepts that an individual learned in psychology.

The 2 concepts that I learned are first the individual psychology by Alfred Adler which is divided into four parts the Life Style Interpretation,  Early Recollections,  Social Interest,  and Underlying purpose of symptoms in Life Style Interpretation the counsellor will put some unfinished sentence that the client must honestly continue so that the counsellor can see how her/his client see her/his own worth, other people worth, and the worth of the world and what the client would do if given a chancecto change something about her or himself (which is called the Life Style Assessment) while in Early Recollections the most highlighted memories from 10 years before will be verbally shared so that while doing so the counselor can analyze what kind of a person is the client, if she/he remembered being scolded and injured when biking without permission then she/he grow up 10 years after we can see that the client grow up obediently following rules because of the incident before lastly is the Social Interest example of this is the bullies are bullied what if the reason they are bullying is because at home they are being pick on by family members so for that not to happen in school the victims would rather do the act of bullying to avoid the scenario at home to happen again in school then the counselor will give an assignments that she/he thinks can help in the situation of the client. The second concept would be Analytic Psychology by Carl Jung where the client would be strap on by a psychogalvanoneter and the counselor will say words that would make the client reacts causing her/his heartbeat to beats faster this is called word association.

The first important thing I learned is how to differentiate true Vs. reported memory in Individual Psychology it is like this in true memory the client would be filled with emotions/feelings while verbally sharing but in reported memory (memories that was only shared go the client possibly by family member)  when talking the client would have no emotion and would continuously report.  Second and still in Individual Psychology is how the counselor must analyze not only what the client is saying but also how the client says it, their behavior and mannerism. Third would be Social Interest how there are always a reason why an individual would act like that.  Lastly is Dream Analysis how just dreaming reveals something about a person like our guest speaker revealed that in her dreams she would be chased a monster only to end up running to the bathroom means that she isn't picky when praying to God and even in the comfort room she would still talk to the Lord.

First thing that I have to remember when doing a counseling is first always be patient to clients because every one of us has a different reactions when being counseled, second therapist gives choices or options but never in answers to the problem it will always depend on the client and a therapy is needed when a major changes happens and the individual person can't handle it on his own. Third the counsellor must show a poker face even when she/he doesn't like to topic or problem of their client the best option would be to recommend some other counsellor to avoid judging them (possibly through facial expressions or tone) with their own opinion causing the client to not share her/his problem example of this would Ms.Mary isn't comfortable with sexual topics instead when she got a client that has this topics Ms.Mary just recommend her to other counsellor, fourth is that a theory can only guide you a counsellordoesnt have to use only one specific theory for their clients.

Output #4: Day 1 (Friday)

Hi people, meet Maliksi I

January 20, 2018 — arrived at the Maliksi I Barangay Hall around 7 in the morning, wherein the same person who actually helped my group from the first time we went there for immersion, was also the same person who ‘welcomed’ us; technically he was just sitting on the front space of hall, looking like a woke-up-like-this self then allowed us (Em and I) to go upstairs waiting for the other group members.  I am happy he initially assumed the reason of our visit.

While waiting, we (only with Em up to this moment) we just discussed what supposed to happened later. Then the remaining morning shift was oriented about what we will go to do for today: Profiling. In more comprehensive term, identify the community through an interview. I thought we were too early for a stranger conversation, only few houses were up for a talk. However, some children prove that Day 1 was worth it. I had tropa or a friendly squad consist of elementary students, we exchange dreams and ambitions up to the reason why some of them cannot go to school for not having enough baon throughout the day.

People of Maliksi I cannot yet consider trash as their major problem, for as we assumed. But the main problem of the barangay itself is the narrow pathway before the said community. The path is too narrow for 3 persons. The team, will still find for another problem that can be solved easily within 7 days.

Knowing the Details

Our chosen community is almost (3) three rides away from my place. We need to take jeepney to perpetual village 7 then ride a tricycle from the village’s main gate that is almost a 5 minute ride to our chosen community in San Lucas. The span range of houses covered were countable yet we found out that each house has more variable that one thought it might be. In other words, the word overloaded might suit because there are chances where a small spaced house sheltered almost 13 persons.

The first day of my interactions with the citizens of our chosen community went well. My goal for Day 1 is to gather information and analysis of our data regarding the community. I talked to several people and realized that behind every people’s action lies a reason behind it.

[DAY 1 FRIDAY] WHO RUN THE SPOT: MEETING CAPT.

Last January 19, 2018, we started our first day of immersion in Barangay Maliksi 1, Bacoor City, Cavite. We arrived at the place at exactly 1:01 pm. As soon as we arrived, we immediately divided ourselves into two groups for us to be able to work fast. Eddie told us to interview mostly the children living in the place but since it was afternoon, the kids were at school so we decided to interview the adults. Unfortunately, the people in the area sleep in the afternoon so we were not able to interview much people.

Luckily, we were able to meet the barangay captain. Me and some of my group mates started concluding things on our mind about the barangay captain’s existence in the area since we were not able to meet him every time we visit the place since we were grade 11. Thankfully, he showed up that day and we were able to interview him about some things. He told us that he was already living in the barangay since he was a kid and it is already his last term of being the barangay captain. When asked about the environment of the place, he told us that he gives out orders to clean the area at least once or twice a month together with the people from 4P who were helping his staffs but because of the river that is connected to other barangays that flows in the barangay, the trash from other place were driven in to their place making their clean up a nonsense.

When asked if they were giving seminars to the citizens since the place is a tsunami prone area, he said that the City Government conduct a seminar to everyone which the people of Maliksi Uno attend to. In terms of the safety of the place, he said to us that there is an outpost outside the vicinity and his staffs rove the place during night. I also found some CCTV cameras installed in different areas.

After our talk with Kapitan, we continued interviewing the people living in the area we are assigned to for our community profiling. By 5 o’clock in the afternoon, we left the place which concludes our first day of immersion in Barangay Maliksi 1.

Output #4: Counseling Seminar

Tip of an Iceberg

           According to our guest speaker, Mrs. Mary Joy Teruel, a guidance counselor from Benedictine Institute of Learning, counseling provides methods to your counselee – either group or individual – and methods differs from situations and condition that aims to guide and resolve someone’s case throughout the counseling process.

           Out of 6 topics Mrs. Teruel had discussed, Psychoanalytic Therapy by Sighmund Freud and Analytic Psychology by Carl Jung remain remarkable in after the seminar.            First, the Psychoanalytic Therapy, — reminds the conscious and unconscious mind — that aims to make unconscious in to conscious or so called self-awareness and promotes effective personal relationships and honesty. In addition, the therapy also includes and tackles early recollections about your childhood and social interests.

           Last, the Analytic Psychology is divided into different process: one of it is individuation process; study a person based on his psyche (human soul, mind and spirit) that aims to track how oneself was established (this stage was based until middle age) and seeking fulfillment or moving towards awareness, according to Mrs. Teruel said. Moreover, this method makes you more aware about your repressed unconscious called shadow.

           The three things I learned are: One, advice and counseling are different. Two, using one strategy is okay, but knowing different techniques is better since a counselor serves a diverse community and to make his/her process more effective. Third and last, the confidentiality can be suspended if the case seeks a court subpoena or other legal governing demand.

           Four things that a counselor should possess: Being a good listener regardless of your patient. Next, if you can’t handle the counselee’s condition because it triggers your traumatic encounters, refer the client to other professional. Also, no prejudice action results to a strong trust and reliable communication. Lastly, counselor at least be creative enough to make a counseling process more engaging to the client and applies aligned methodical guides at the same time.

COUNSELING SEMINAR: THOUGHTS FROM AN EXTERNAL LECTURER

Last August 11, 2017, Friday, we had a 2-hour seminar with Ms. Mary Joy Teruel, a guidance counselor from Benedictine Insitute of Learning. The whole 2 hours of talk about counseling is very worth it because we learned a lot from her. During the seminar, Ms. Teruel explained to us that Counseling is giving an advice but it requires different techniques. Counseling is a bit complicated when not mastered.

The 2-hour seminar taught me 4 things that I have to remember when doing a counseling. First, we have to actively interact with the client. We have to show interest and that we are listening to what he is saying. Aside from that, we have to remember dome of what the client is saying. We can take down notes from time to time but we have to make sure that we won’t focus on recording what he is saying, we should still be focused on him. Next, we can know the client more by getting to know him during his childhood. We have to build up first our relationship with the client to make him more comfortable. Lastly, we can use different methods during the counseling process like word association, role playing and discussing about his dreams. These methods can help us know the client more and gives us ideas on how to solve his problem.
