Trigger Warning: mention of miscarriage and cheating.

They met when he was a senior in high school and she was a freshman in college. It was yet another party around the bonfire and their eyes caught each other. There was lust at first sight but she refrained, only allotting time to admire him. Brenden was known to be a flirt, cocky and arrogant at best. He had slept with too many girls to count but she was different. They started talking and before they knew it the sun was coming up but their clothes were still on. She was the first person to ever ask about what made Brenden Scott who he was. it was quite telling and eventually they started hanging out more frequently. Brenden had been on his own for a little while, emancipated at the age of sixteen, moving into an apartment to further place distance between he and his parents. She came over one night, wound up spending the night but this time they pursued things further.

That morning he felt something soften within him and made her breakfast, then woke her by strumming his guitar to a song to romance her. Their relationship bloomed into this idealistic sort of match where the problems they faced were things such as Brenden combatting his commitment issues and her trying to mold into becoming her own person. Together they matured, played house, she soon moved in, and it got very serious very fast. Everything was becoming too real when she found out she wound up pregnant. Unfortunately, a few months in, she miscarried out of apparent stress caused by a number of factors. The miscarriage really tainted her heart and Brenden didn't know how to help her through processing that loss as he tried to navigate through his own feelings.

During this time, she made the mistake of sleeping with someone else, thinking Brenden was pulling away when he was just at a stand still trying to figure out what came next for the two of them. He entertained the flirtations of other women but his heart was true to her while she sorted her life out. Long story short, he found out about the cheating and though he wanted to fight through it and work it out - she needed to find herself which is why she set out to pursue her love of photography, leaving him alone in their apartment. He waited a couple months but eventually it became apparent she wasn't coming back so he packed up her stuff and put it in a storage facility. Then he joined a fraternity and locked that part of him away, getting rid of their apartment.

Now she's back to collect her things and check in on him. It's been at least six months since she left but he's not over what she did. Where she lands is really up to us to navigate but I'm not expecting finals. My thought was that she'd come back looking for some sort of forgiveness and they would either resolve the past drama that took place, in a slow burn kind of way, or go their own ways. It's going to be messy. He's hurt, vulgar and has made it a point to not feel the pain she left with him when she took off. He's not the boy she left.
