Do you have to buy your own bins and supplies (pretty much all the things you need), stands to put the shirts on and such when doing merch or do they already have it for you?

If a band flat out told me I had to pay for all my own supplies, I’d just tell them to buy me a plane ticket back home instead. All bands should have their own supplies (bins, racks, etc.) and if they don’t, the band needs to make sure to buy them. Never pay for that stuff out of your own pocket.

To the other anon that seemed anxious about their blemishes, as someone who's been in that position before, please please please do not let it affect your confidence or self-esteem. It can be terribly damaging to you in the long run if you think low of yourself. Trust me when I say that no one is looking at your blemishes, no matter where they may be, and if they do notice them, they really don't care. Please don't worry, and don't let it hold you back from touring if you want to!

Hey Shelby! Okay so I probably will get to merch for a band this Fall but I also already registered for school in the fall and now I'm stuck in a dilemma. Like you, I really have nothing holding me back. In this situation what would you do? Online school? Do another semester of school when the tour is over? I just need some opinions. Thank you! (:

I guess it really depends on the band you're working for. If I were in your position I'd only hold off on school if you really think its too good of an opportunity to miss. But if its a really small DIY tour, I'd probably skip it. Just weigh it out for yourself. Online school though would be next to impossible on the road. It's hard to balance tests and homework when you already have so much going on. Plus, Internet is somewhat hard to come by.

How'd you get that Volumes job? I thought they already had a tour manager and merch for like years. Congrats on it though (:

thanks! Im pretty excited about it. The position opened up and I just happened to be at the right place at the right time. I don’t know what happened with their previous merch person.
