Headcanons:

The Smees have been employees of the Hooks for generations, and the chain didn't stop with its current eldest son. Apparently there was some sort of debt a long time ago that needed to be paid off, and the Smees, never really having much money to their names, had decided to work it off. At some point along the way, they'd called it even, but without having anyone before him break the mold and get a proper education, the men before Oliver had all worked for whoever was in charge of the Jolly Roger. Being a bit of a follower in nature, he wasn't about to cut off generations of service because he wanted to spend his time going to school, of all places.

Oliver is the only child of the current Smee generation, leaving him to have taken his father's position of James Hook's general manager when he was twenty-one so that he could retire. Having worked as an employee from the time he was able to, while still in high school, Oliver couldn't bring a very educated stance to the business, but he did know the company better than anyone else his age. Being part of Hook's empire was his birthright, and he's dedicated his life to serving James however he sees fit.

Somewhere along the way, James had developed a deep-seated rivalry with a kid not too much younger than Smee himself: Peter Pan. He had no idea how the boy had gotten involved in fucking with their plans, but he had, and James has been pissed about it ever since. His boss had even lost his hand that day, forming a now decade-long vendetta to personally ruin Peter's life, and the lives of anyone associated with him. Oliver had seen what Peter had been capable of that day, and he knows now that James is not only out to seek an end to Peter, but to magic itself, too. He doesn't have many thoughts on his boss' plans besides wanting to be available and ready to help whenever he's needed.

Because he's a bit younger than him, Oliver doesn't have many opinions on what James does in general. He hasn't exactly found his place yet, despite working under him for so long, because he's both less educated and experienced than his boss. It's a bit conflicting at times when he wants to speak up, but feels like it's not his place. Instead, he defaults to whatever James tells him to do, hoping that he doesn't mess up so badly that he ruins an entire family line of employment by getting himself fired.

Because he spends so much time with work obligations, Oliver doesn't have many friends besides Hook. He doesn't really feel the need to make them, either. He's dated a few people casually here and there, but if he has any sort of sense that they might be magical or too demanding for the little personal time he makes for himself, he is quick to cut things off. Oliver actually does think he would get along well with Peter if James didn't hate him so much, and he's tried to talk to Wendy Darling a few times, figuring that might be more James-approved.

Oliver is a generally sensitive person, despite how much time he spends around people who don't seem to care about others all that much. He sees how James can sometimes treat some of their less intelligent employees and feels bad, almost like he should be guilty for it himself. To make up for it, he spends a lot of time trying to take care of James and be sure that he's in his best mood as often as possible, so that he doesn't take out his anger on whoever's working that day. It's probably one of the most challenging parts of his job.

His answer confirming he’s never actually dated anyone before isn’t a surprise, not by a long shot considering, like she had said, he gave off some level of virginal man vibes. Not that there seemed to be anything really wrong with him, from what Tink could tell at least, but his lack of a wide friend group was the first sign that had made her come to the conclusion that he’s probably never dated before in his life. “That’s kinda shit, actually,” she found herself saying without really thinking, a small frown forming on her lips at the thought of how many people she’s just never bothered sticking around for or starting anything serious with. “But I get it too. Dating kind of fucking sucks.” Probably not something you're supposed to say to the guy you’re currently going out with - but it’s something she’s sure Smee will understand.

For a moment she had forgotten that her boyfriend was once one of her number one sworn enemies - or at least, he was supposed to have been. It seems a shock sometimes that people in her life aren’t aware of her not so stellar track record in the dating world, especially when there had only been one person she had actively hid her whole marriage situationship from. But Tink supposed it made sense - it wasn’t like the news of any of her personal life would ever reach the docks. And even if it did, they likely hardly gave a fuck what she was up to - caring only what the leader of their group did. “Oh, yeah. For a few months. Then I cheated and he called it off, filed the divorce papers we probably should have signed the day after the wedding, really,” she spoke about it so casually, as if it were no big deal - because that was exactly what she and Dash always maintained it was: no big deal.

Dating did kind of fucking suck: she was right. Though, it was weird to hear that fact from someone who actively wanted to be his girlfriend. Tink had been the one to actually suggest that they date, not the other way around, the way he’d so often experienced the beginnings of potential relationships that had never amounted to anything. Oliver had honestly begun to think that it simply was never going to happen for him—there wasn’t going to be another girl who took an interest in some guy who worked at the docks and had his boss for a best friend. Still unconvinced Tink actually liked him, though, the results of this whim of an experiment remained to be seen.

“So, you hate dating, but you’re keen on marriage?” he repeated, in terms he understood for her to hear. A few months of marriage wasn’t really much at all: some dating relationships lasted longer. Smee should’ve been concerned about her track record, especially being so upfront about cheating on her ex-husband, but it wasn’t as though he couldn’t get over it if she did the same thing to him—he didn’t care that much about the blonde. If anything, he was only here to get the attention of someone else. “I take it cheating on your husband didn’t go over well? Who’d you wind up finding better than him?” Even more: did she even love him, if she cheated on him a few months later? Did he care that much to know? Probably not, but if she was his girlfriend, he at least had a small bit of right to ask.

Shelly wasn't entirely convinced, giving him a quick raise of her brow in uncertainty before nodding anyway. Her doubt was apparent and words didn't need to be exchanged for him to sense it. "I didn't know people ate more fish around the holidays," she replied flatly. There was something different about him after their conversation. While Shelly saw it as the door creaking open to a room she was afraid to step foot in, he'd seen it as one closing and she wondered what was on the other side. Before now she'd never thought about Oliver with someone else or just how much she hated the thought of it. "Busy with what? He doesn't still have you trying to get the dish on Peter since he left, right?" The blonde posed a question she feared the answer as much as she was curious, reaching out to take a few peanuts from the bar, crunching them between her teeth to keep herself calm. "Then thanks for fitting me into your busy schedule." While it wasn't how he intended it insecurity had crept in and started to second-guess what she thought to be true. "You haven't been around in a while."

"You've never heard of the seven fishes feast, all that?" he asked, already knowing the answer, but at least it would help his credibility. He wasn't trying to avoid her: circumstances had simply changed. If it were up to him, he would've been her boyfriend, but that had been a question Oliver had asked too many times that he finally had to stop. "Well, yeah, he wants to see where he's at and all that." It would never stop with Peter Pan, he thought, not until Hook had what he considered to be fair enough revenge.

"I have something to tell you, actually," he admitted. Smee feared the worst: Shelly had made it clear her feelings about the other blonde, and had even warned him not to get too close to her back when his mission had began. It wouldn't only hurt her, but he began to brace for impact as though she might retaliate. "Tink, she ... asked me out. Like, to date." To be fair, it was exactly what Shelly had failed to do over this much time: it wasn't his fault it had simply come from another girl. "I had to say yes. Hook woulda killed me if I hadn't."

~ timeskip, lost boys christmas party ~

There were only three people that she had gifted with the knowledge of her newfound relationship before tonight - her sister, Nibs, and then Sam. Peri had of course been a no-brainer to let in on the entire situation and the same went for Nibs - she didn’t like keeping secrets from either of them, no matter how small or short lasting they may be. And with Sam, well, he had already been filled in on everything else going on in her love life before the rest of the general public, it only seemed right that she tell him this new update as well. But over all, it had been kept pretty much a secret for the past weeks in her social group. Mostly because she needed to test if it could even last more than just a week or two before she went shaking things up by bringing Oliver Smee of all people around… and then there was the bonus fact that showing up on his arm for Christmas was probably the most dramatic hard launch she could think of, which was always fun in Tink’s book.

So it’s no surprise when the sight of the two of them turn quite a few heads from the younger crowd of partygoers, but Tink just continues on with her hand hooked around his arm as if she doesn’t notice a single thing. Of course there was a rush at all the attention, the same gleeful feeling she always got when she was the center of a show, but she for once didn’t let it fully get to her head. Pulling him down onto the couch, she looks up at her date with a genuine smile. “Is this the first time you’ve ever publicly dated a girl?” she asks, not caring at all that it might seem rude. In fact, going in and continuing her thought to add even more offense. “I mean, I know you said you’ve been laid before - but you still give off some level of never been kissed vibe, you know. No judgement, though - I mean, I’ve only like officially dated one before before this and that ended in divorce, so I can’t really judge.”

It felt like he was in enemy territory, setting foot in the lost boys' home. Oliver had never even attempted to picture himself here, but when his new girlfriend insisted that the two show up together, as a couple, he was hardly in a place to say no. It seemed she wanted to make a statement, how insistent she'd been that he come with her, but Smee had yet to figure out why. He knew they were going to get stares, dirty ones, and maybe he'd even be approached angrily by one of the boys, but it was nothing he couldn't handle. So, he showed up happily, played the part of a doting boyfriend while also attempting to remain aloof as he felt pairs of eyes on them.

He felt like a lost puppy, following the blonde around the party as there didn't seem to be many people who would want to talk to Oliver himself. Thankfully, in a moment of rare peace, he was dragged to the couch, taking a seat beside his girlfriend. "Huh?" he uttered, snapping back to reality from his night mostly spent people-watching. "Oh, uh, yeah, actually." There had been almost one, and if it'd been up to him, Smee would've been with her tonight, as her boyfriend, somewhere. "I dunno, most girls don't seem to want me stuck around too long. Which is fine, y'know, I got used to it after awhile." He paused, recognizing what she'd said meant. "You were married?"

James had shifted his attention to the bar cart now, preparing a celebratory drink for the two of them. Things were actually looking up for a plan that could've gone straight into the garbage if not handled correctly. It wasn't that James had doubted his protege's abilities but knew his methodology could be a bit rocky when it came to women in particular. Somehow he'd gotten through to her and come back with information that made Hook's entire year. "Wendy Darling is dating a pornstar? Now those were words I never thought I'd hear in the same sentence," he said, a laugh already pouring out too. "I can't imagine the rest of the crew is holding together much better without their fearless leader, aye?" A smirk had formed where his smile sat moments earlier. After all this time of hoping for an Isle without Pan, Hook had finally gotten what he wished for. With his hand, James held out a glass for the younger boy and then offered his own glass for cheers. "You did good, my boy," he stated placing his hand firmly on Oliver's shoulder. "This is only the beginning." To James, a world without Pan was one full of possibilities and now he was certain who would be conditioned to one day take his place.

~time skip to after new year's~

He was sure his boss had seen him and Tink on New Year's, but Smee had waited until after, just to be sure that there was news even to tell. He'd been unconvinced the two would last an entire evening together, in public, but Tink still wanted to be his girlfriend, and Oliver was still on a mission to squeeze every bit of information out of her that he possibly could. As grimy as it felt to have that be his motive, the blonde was after something, too: a mutually beneficial relationship never hurt anyone.

"Alright, I wanted t'wait until after the test run in public to tell ya, but I've got news, sir," he admitted, a grin creeping on his lips as he waited to drop the needle on the news he'd been holding in for a bit. "I had to be sure we were gonna really do this, y'know? I thought she was pranking me or something, I bloody swear, but Tink's asked to go out with me." He was sure the disbelief would come: Oliver had felt it himself. "I'm her boyfriend now."

Clinking their glasses together, Tink follows suit and takes a sip of her own. It’s not that she was nervous, per say, but there certainly was an undercurrent of jitters as she prepared for the conversation they were about to have. She knows it’ll be coming slightly out of the blue, in all honesty, but she figures she has nothing to lose if he decides to turn her down. If he freaks out and swears to never talk to her again… well, losing his friendship would suck a little but hardly be the end of the world. And that really was the worst case scenario that she could think of potentially happening. Which made simply ripping off the band-aid a lot easier.

“I think we should date,” she declares, no preamble or romantic speech - just simply jumping right to the point. “I mean we’re friends now, right? And you don’t really have any other romantic offers and apparently neither do I - so why the hell not? And I can do this, I can be in a relationship and not fuck it up. I can prove that, with you.” Perhaps she shouldn’t be telling him all of this. Maybe the best course of action would have been to let him think she was genuinely fully interested in him like that… But starting the relationship off under false pretenses was the exact opposite of what Tink was trying to do. She needed to be honest and open with exactly why it was she wanted to date him, even if that meant he wouldn’t be interested. Though, a part of her can’t imagine what the harm is - it’s not like she’s asking for forever here, they could simply date each other until something better comes along. It was a perfect arrangement for them both, as far as she was concerned.

It was as though she was handing him exactly what he wanted out of getting to know her on a silver spoon, a golden platter of romance Smee couldn't have possibly imagined. It couldn't have possibly been because of his overly smooth-talking or abundance of charm that he'd gotten himself this far, but he really couldn't have imagined a more perfect scenario. From the way she posed it, it seemed Tink had something to get out of this, too: she had something to prove, whether to herself or someone unbeknownst to him. Shelly had spent months unable to be this decisive with him, and he still wasn't sure she'd ever get there. So, it really wouldn't be a terrible thing, accepting the offer, if it was mutually beneficial for the both of them, would it?

It took about a minute of consideration before Oliver was offering a shrug, followed by a nod, in response. "Okay," he agreed, "yeah. What the hell, sure." They didn't need to be in love with each other to simply date, as long as they weren't under any impression otherwise. Neither one liked the other an awful amount more, nor were they looking for something completely serious. It was perfect, really: he could continue to get information for Hook, and, just maybe, make Shelly see what could happen if she didn't want to date him, after all. "Are your friends gonna be okay with this, though? They're not gonna hunt me dead, are they? I don't expect them to like me, and I don't really care, for the record, but I wasn't sure if you do," Oliver clarified, already imagining the slew of questioning she'd be on the other end of once this was revealed.

The silence had been deafening. Shelly was unsure where the sudden sense of care had come from but now wondered where he had gone. She thought she was getting close to something, to the very thing she'd been avoiding, and just like that, it felt out of reach. Maybe the ball was in her court, something the blonde had no idea what to do with. While Shelly had been in relationships before they were all orchestrated by her behind the scenes and now the loss of control was sending her into a spiral. Oliver was supposed to be something to fill her time not the person she obtained actual feelings for. That's why as the blonde occupied her usual booth at the bar and waited for him there was a scowl already consuming her features. Work had been chaotic as usual, with the worst types of people coming in before the holidays hoping to get out their sins before the new year. All of it combined into a cranky end to her evening and the start of their conversation. "You're late," Shelly said with arms folded over her chest. Even though it was normally one of the things she used to get her way, it could be withheld when she was upset as a power move, not that it still worked with Oliver after all this time. "What kept you?" She asked in the hopes of getting confirmation it wasn't the other blonde he'd been having to entertain. "You didn't forget about me, did you?"

There had been a distinct shift in the relationship between Oliver and the first blonde with whom he'd been romantically linked. It wasn't all because of Tink, but she certainly did have something to do with it, having proposed that they go so far as to start dating, which had seemed a far fetched pipe dream when he'd started to talk to her. Of course, he'd come to like her company, but he'd mostly accepted the offer knowing how proud Hook would be when he told him the news. It left Shelly as a bit of an afterthought, though she hadn't wanted to get serious with him in the first place--she'd made that much perfectly clear. Smee hadn't thought it would be a huge deal to pull back, though the text from her practically demanding to see each other indicated otherwise. "Hey," he greeted, looking down at his watch: she was right. "I know, sorry, Hook kept us late. It's the holiday rush." That part had been true, thankfully having been with his boss instead of his new girlfriend. "No, I just--shit's been busy," he said in excuse. Truth be told, the further apart they were, the thought that they couldn't last became all the more easy, but here he was, adding to the setback of her on his mind.

~ time skip to a few days after thanksgiving ~

After being rejected by three guys in a row, one would probably expect Tink to take that as potentially some kind of sign. Or for her to at least slow down and give herself some time to recover before trying to run right into another relationship of any kind. Well, fuck that, she thought. There was no reason for her to sit around and wallow in the fact that no one wanted to be with her. That the boy she had sworn she loved practically all of her life couldn’t ever feel the same, that she was so easy for him to just up and leave behind like she and their friendship had meant quite literally nothing. Nor was she going to sit down and wonder why it was that both of her exes refused to go for another round of any kind with her. Stopping to let herself actually think too hard on any of that was only going to cause further spiralling, which was exactly what she wanted to avoid. It was easier to just pretend like she was fine, to swear that nothing fucking mattered, and move the hell on. Or at least, make it look like she was moving on.

Which was exactly why she had called up the one man she felt she might actually have a chance with to prove just all of that to everyone in her life. In reality, Tink hardly actually cared all that much in any romantic sort of way for the boy she had called to meet her at the bar. But that was exactly what made him the perfect person to do this with. If things didn’t work out, or if he rejected her before they could even attempt to start anything, her heart wouldn’t be broken and they could easily just brush it all off or never speak again - and she’d be perfectly content with either option. It was going to be the best of every world.

With a cocktail in her own hand and a beer waiting beside her, the fairy offered a nod and a smile as Smee finally came to slide into the empty barstool she’d been saving for him. “I’ve turned the tables a bit and bought you a drink this time,” she informs, as if it weren’t obvious already by the full glass she hadn’t touched at all. “Because I have a proposition for you. If you’re willing to hear it.”

The text he'd received from one Tink Bell asking to meet up wasn't one Smee ever thought he'd get. They'd exchanged numbers mostly out of convenience, but he didn't think the number would ever pop up on his phone, much less in an invitation. The blonde must've really gotten desperate without Peter around, he thought, but it played perfectly into the plot he and his boss had set to get her to spill more information now that he was gone. The next task was to hear his whereabouts, if she even knew where they were, but if there was one person he thought might have the location of Peter Pan, it was her.

So, Oliver accepted, finding her at the bar with two drinks already ordered. The pint of beer brought a smile to his face, a sign that she'd finally come to think of him as at least an acquaintance, if not a friend. For how little he thought he might accomplish on this mission he'd set off on, Smee had somehow managed to get into the fairy's good graces, after all. "Cheers, and thank you," he accepted the offering, tapping the bottom of his glass to the rim of hers before taking a sip. Of course, she had a reason for bringing him here: it seemed he wasn't the only one on a mission. "Oh? And what is it you'd like to propose?" Oliver asked, curious.

It was potentially risky, admitting so openly to Smee of all people that she was indeed a fairy - but it seemed clear that he actually knew that fact anyway. Plus, it’s not like they were out in open daylight or anything. This was Hotel Transylvania, it was supposed to be a sanctuary for monsters and magical beings. If there was anywhere that she should be safe to be herself, it was here. So rather than deny it or make an excuse of it just being a costume, her shoulder raises in a halfhearted shrug. “Not like there’s anyone else I’d rather want to be. When you’re as perfect as I am, there’s no need to dress up as anyone else,” she declares with her classic confidence. “But no. It is not public knowledge. The floating thing I need to get better at remembering to hide, but it’s certainly not something I go around advertising.” Maybe it would have been smarter to let him think everyone knew therefore it wasn’t all the special of information, but Tink surprisingly actually found herself somewhat trusting the man. At least enough to keep this specific secret safe.

At his snort and joke that seeing her behave would be some kind of shocking surprise, Tink reaches out and smacks his arm. “Hey, I’m a fucking angel to a lot of people, actually,” she insists, genuinely believing the statement to be true. When she cared for someone, she cared deeply and truly, willing to do absolutely anything for them most of the time. She was actually kind of a great fucking friend to have. It just so happened that she was also a horrible enemy to have at the same time - and the bad always seemed to overshadow all of the good in life. “Believe it or not I am actually attempting to be… somewhat friendly now with a certain Darling girl. Don’t get me wrong, we aren’t going to be painting each other's nails or throwing sleepovers together any time soon, or ever honestly, but civility is potentially going to be achieved.” She said it as if it were something the two had to work on together, rather than all of the issues falling squarely on her own shoulders - but hey, baby steps. Eventually maybe she could get to the point of being able to admit her own faults here.

Knowing her usage of flying wasn't universal, Smee honestly would've advised against it, but it was far too late at this point. Hook knowing her special power was enough to put Tink on the warning list for their whole operation, despite their conscious decision to keep it discreet for now. "Perfect is a strong word," he pointed out. James probably wouldn't have described any of his employees as such, though Smee liked to think he was maybe as close as anyone could get to being under Hook's level of perfection. "Yeah, maybe," Oliver suggested, "I noticed it, and if Hook's right, I'm kinda dumb, so, you should definitely keep an eye on advertising that to anyone smarter than me."

When he'd met the blonde officially, Smee had hoped for a few outcomes, the relationship between himself and Tink at the top of the list, but a friendship between her and Wendy was a close second. It meant that she was getting softer, for reasons that had nothing to do with him, but he couldn't help but thank one Peter Pan for leaving the island to make it happen. "Oh, my god, you're going soft," he teased. Oliver began to laugh, attempting to conceal his amusement behind the pint of beer the bartender finally handed him. "What made you change your approach with her? Did you finally get a feature on her boyfriend's channel?"

Talking with Smee at an event like this was far riskier than the simple conversations they’ve had at different bars across town and their once shared hospital room. Sure, none of the lost boys were here - but almost all of her fairy friends were, and though the two groups rarely merged all that much there was still a chance one of the girls might somehow tell the boys. It was something that a few weeks ago would have been an absolute no, but as it was now, well Tink couldn’t really find it in herself to care. By some strange happenstance, she actually kind of liked the guy and was willing to take the small chance of her friends finding out of that betrayal. At least she could argue it wasn’t as big of a deal as Peter up and leaving them all, and everyone was so willing to forgive and forget that.

For a moment she’s not sure if he’s just being dumb or if he truly can’t figure out what her costume is supposed to be, considering it seems pretty damn obvious as far as she’s concerned. Though she’s never outwardly told him that she was a fairy, Tink had always just assumed that he and Hook likely already knew that information somehow - probably from overhearing Peter so loudly and obviously talking about it, despite the dangers that potentially brought upon her. “I’m a fairy,” she finally answered, slight attitude in her voice as she reaches to point at the wings on her back like that should have been a dead giveaway. Because it should have been, really. “And now you’re gonna make me walk and work for my drinks? I should say no just on principle, but I’m trying this new thing called being nice to others… so fine. For the sake of not letting you look like a friendless loser.”

"So, you're just yourself, then?" he blurted with a raised brow, testing the waters to see just how she would react to the acknowledgement that he knew exactly who she was. He and Hook had known for some time that the blonde had special abilities to her, but he hadn't brought it up in front of her before. Smee hadn't hurt her over it, though--in fact, he would've tried to help her had he known she'd been targeted a few months ago, int he same way he'd helped Shelly. Neither one of them deserved to be on the receiving end of violence just because they were special in that way. "I mean, that's public knowledge, isn't it? You float sometimes," Oliver added, covering his tracks of extensive research his boss had been conducting on the blonde and her friends.

Smee pressed a hand to his chest in feigned gratitude at her offer. "I'm honored." He let out a snort at the second part of her sentence, finding the noble and brave conquest of being nice to others hilarious for the blonde. "You, trying to be nice to people? Now, that's a sight I've never seen. Who do you have on your list of recipients?" he asked curiously, hoping it included someone more interesting than just himself. "To be fair, you could always go fly over walking. You know, it adds to your costume."

Tilting her head slightly, she had to give it to him - it wasn’t a terrible idea. And it was, after all, it was basically what she had told Wendy herself that she planned to do after they broke up, back in the hospital room a few weeks prior. In truth, Tink really didn’t have the strongest actual desire to be with Phil Deville - but she loved any plan that messed with the other girl in the slightest. “Very true. Swoop in to heal the heartbreak and get his business started up again,” she agreed with a smirk. A loud bark of a laugh escapes her at the thought of Wendy fucking Darling ever partaking in anything as scandalous and interesting as making a sex tape, much less actually ever allowing it to be posted on the internet for the whole world to see. “God, I would fucking pay for her to do that. At the mention of people leaving the island with the borders now open, Tink immediately thinks of Peter and the note he’d left for her and the fight they’d had the following morning. As much as she hoped and prayed that he’d for once fucking listen to her and just stay, the blonde knew better than to honestly believe that was going to happen. “Yeah, well, fuck who ever leaves. They can get stuck on the other side for all I give a damn. If they don’t care enough about the people they’re leaving behind to bother sticking around for them, then why should we care if they can’t ever make it back?” She didn’t outright say that she knew someone heading off the island, but the bitterness in her tone and the way in which her fists tightened as she spoke said it all.

It was becoming easier with each interaction to approach the blonde whom Smee wouldn't even touch with a ten-foot pole a few months ago. Perhaps a little too easy, given how he was supposed to be speaking to her solely to collect information for his boss, but that didn't mean he couldn't at least enjoy himself a bit in the process. Gaining her trust had proved to be a difficult task, but after she had finally given him some information on the whereabouts of one Peter Pan, Oliver knew there wasn't much he couldn't get from her now: Peter had been the one thing she'd kept off-limits for so long, until he'd finally gotten her to crack.

"Now, what the hell are you supposed to be?" he asked with narrowed eyes, head tilting to one side as he attempted to figure it out himself. Smee hadn't exactly dressed up himself, so he couldn't judge as harshly as he'd wanted to, but there was a difference in not trying and simply choosing something too difficult to decipher. "Sorry I didn't come with the usual gift of alcohol, but I actually need a refill myself, so I was hoping you'd want to join me," Oliver offered, raising a brow as he gestured toward the bar. "Y'know, since my only other friend here is Hook, and I might've lost track of him."

While he wasn't asleep, the last thing James had expected was anyone to come rapping on his door at that hour. The man released a low grumble as the knocking continued and forced him up from the chair he practically lived in when he was home. "I'm coming," Hook yelled back, tossing the rest of his whiskey down so that he could leave the glass behind. Once the front door was open a drunken Oliver was stumbling past and James' eyes rolled as he waited for what he assumed would be not worth this visit. "Yeah, I bet it is, and if it's not you're going to be shoveling the fish guts." A job no one wanted but Oliver had earned a time or two. Hook expected this to be the same as always, settling back into his chair and awaiting whatever news the boy brought him. That was until the words started to come out of Smee's mouth. James leaned forward, wanting to savor every moment of what he'd been waiting for. "You're bloody joking," a huff of laughter emerged as he reached to put his hands on the younger male's shoulders. "An Isle without Pan, about fuckin' time." An actual smile had taken the place of Hook's usual scowl. After all this time, for a moment, he was free of the boy who ruined it all. "Finally, something actually works in our favor. I knew you could do it," James said giving the boy's hair a ruffle with his mitt of a hand. "What's he doing over in the mainland?"

It was almost a little pathetic, just how much his boss' pride meant to Smee. It wasn't easy to please James Hook, and it was rare when Oliver was able to do just that, no caveats added. But, hitting the jackpot of information on his sworn worst enemy was about as good as he was going to get. He couldn't completely hide the drunken smile on his face, a clap coming to the back of the older man's back as they celebrated with a quick embrace. "No fish guts for a year after this one," he insisted, though they both knew he'd be back to doing the dirty work as soon as they'd come down from the high of this recent revelation. "I have not a bloody clue, and neither does Tink. But, I'm betting it has something to do with a miss Darling and her porn star boyfriend. I wish I was joking about that one, but no--you can look him up yourself." Smee really didn't give a shit what Peter Pan was up to off the island, so long as he never came back. With how finicky the borders had been recently, he wouldn't have been totally surprised if there was a chance they'd never see the boy again. "He basically picked up and left once the borders opened, and Tink's pissed."

Commitment was a big word for a girl who only ever dated boys she manipulated into liking her. What their situation started as was a convenience for Shelly, enjoying his company had come after seeing what he offered in the bedroom. It hadn't been until recently that the blonde even considered there being something more between them. She couldn't pinpoint what had happened but things had felt different, Shelly was coming around just to see him, doing nice things for him just because, all the makings of a relationship. The girl had pulled back by then so that she was able to watch him as he explained. It wasn't necessary to have asked for Oliver to define what it was he meant but a part of her was genuinely curious if she was understanding correctly. Most of these conversations were easier when it was she who had control, knowing the beats that were to come next, now being at the mercy of the boy who asked. Shelly never had a man be the one to have her cornered and could almost not believe what she was saying. "I didn't really plan to go anywhere once you were better," the blonde shrugged as if it was the simplest thing. Any sort of emotion he could see she tried to curb it with the sharpness of her usual tone but only Oliver could peel back the layers. His nervousness was not only genuine, it made Shelly feel comfortable enough to show a bit of herself in return. "But what if you see me and you don't like it?" No one had yet accepted her including the darkness she kept locked away; maybe he could be the first. "I don't want things to change like that because you know, I like this and being here... with you."

"Oh," he let out, in both relief and embarrassment as she insisted she hadn't planned on confirming what he feared most to happen. He suddenly felt foolish for thinking she might let him go once she was released of the moral obligation of making sure he got better, but Smee simply couldn't read her like that. It had never been easy to tell what Shelly thought of him, or how long she planned on keeping him around. "I know you," he countered, "I don't think there's anything you could do, really, that would change my mind." If it were up to him, she would've been with him, officially, long before he had taken a stab to the side for her. But, the worst thing he could do now was scare her away with demanding more than she could give. When Oliver had met her, the last thing he'd thought that would happen was that he'd lose her on account of begging to be more--by now, he'd thought she would've gotten bored of him, or simply moved onto someone else. He hoped what he'd done for her had given her enough to trust him, and, now, he had to give it up to Shelly and hope that he could trust her. "They wouldn't change, not really, but if you don't want things to, it's okay, I guess. They don't have to. If you're going to stay, then ... I believe you."

“An amaetur one,” she clarifies with a smirk. It still was a true enough statement without that amendment, but she felt the need to make it clear they weren’t dealing with a real professional here. “His stuff is all homemade, but it’s still pretty good, not gonna lie. I’ve had a few friends in them - should have snagged him for myself while I had the chance but he for some godforsaken reason he decided on getting serious with fucking Wendy of all people before I could.” For a moment her nose scrunches up at the thought of the brunette actually getting anywhere sexual with her boyfriend. “That’s only if she ever spreads her legs wide enough to actually let him in. I don’t see that happening anytime soon, though.” Not that it really mattered to Tink what the other girl did when it came to her love life, now that Peter wasn’t involved in it anymore - but she still just could not for a moment imagine Wendy fucking Darling actually having sex with anyone, like ever. “I don’t know, I think they made it official around like Valentines? Sometime in February at least.”

It was almost kind of sad, the way Smee just seemed so fine with having a practically non-existent social circle, but she supposed if that’s how he liked to live his life, then that’s his prerogative. She just simply couldn’t imagine it. For all she did have a bit of an attitude problem from time to time, Tink had always been fairly popular and never had trouble making friends anywhere she went. “Yeah, well, I’m fucking amazing. Can you blame everyone for loving me?” she teases, only half-joking considering a good part of her truly believed the statement to be true. Taking another sip of her drink, her head nodded at his next question. She knew he was talking about Peter, without actually asking, but wasn’t about to answer in a way that singled out the boy in particular. “Yep. All limbs, hearts, and brains accounted for. I was honestly the one that got the worst of it all.”

"Well, I doubt they're gonna last forever, if they're that incompatible. You could always swoop in on him to help him through heartbreak," Smee suggested seriously. He wouldn't put it past her to capitalize on someone else's heartbreak, especially when that someone was none other than her practical sworn enemy. Though, now that the other girl had her sights set on someone other than the boy they'd both been pining for for as long as Oliver knew them, he had no idea what the future held for the love lives of the two women surrounding Peter. "An amateur porn star who hasn't had work since February? She'll be the reason he goes broke. Unless, of course, you think at some point she'll be an addition to his collection," he joked, hiding a smirk behind his beer as he awaited her thoughts.

With a roll of his eyes, Smee shook his head. "I dunno if I'd go that far, especially when everyone would include my opinion of you," Oliver teased. He'd come to like the blonde better than he ever imagined he might, which made hanging around her with the intent to exploit her only slightly painful. "And I know how you're doing, so, that's good." He didn't wish anything particularly devastating on the rest of her friends, save for the one who he was most interested in. "I heard, like, people were leaving, now that some are allowed to," Oliver started, nonchalant. "I can't imagine just leaving everything and everyone without knowing what the hell is gonna happen if they close again." He hadn't heard of any of the boys leaving, but in case any had, he hoped it might be the opening if she knew anything.

Anyone else might have been embarrassed, having been caught being such a horrible bitch to someone who was supposedly their own friend, but Tink hardly gave a fuck. As far as she was concerned, she’d announce to the whole fucking world that she hated Wendy Darling. Smee knowing now certainly wasn’t that big of a deal, her dislike for the brunette hardly being anything of a secret. So rather than act sheepish or like she regretted anything she’d said, she simply lets out a cackle and nods her head a few times before taking another sip of her drink. “Yeah, well, I would. He’s fucking hot - have you seen the guy?” she asks, reconfirming what she had said the other night in the hospital. “I have literally no clue what he’s doing with her, honestly. And he’s like an amateur porn star, I need to know if he’s as good in real time and the shows he puts on, you know?”

Leaning against the side of the bar top, Tink gives the boy a good look over. She didn’t really give a shit that he had eavesdropped on any of her conversations with the slew of people that had come to visit her during their shared time in the hospital - she had expected him to do exactly that, honestly, it was why she made sure to not have any important discussions or anything until she had been released. “I would have eavesdropped on yours, you know, if you had anyone actually come and see you,” she admits with a shrug, not caring that it was kind of a bitchy thing to say. “You really weren’t exaggerating when you said you don’t have much of a social life, huh?”

With a chuckle, Smee shook his head at her question. Though Wendy Darling had always been a person of interest to himself and his boss, more recently, their efforts had been so focused on the blonde in front of him that he'd only known that the boyfriend of the other girl wasn't, in fact, Peter Pan. "I'm sorry--little miss Darling is dating a porn star?" It was probably the worst match he could possibly think for the girl, who probably had never slept with anyone still. "Holy hell, she's gonna lose it to a professional," he wondered aloud, looking at Tink in disbelief. It was quite an upgrade from Peter, that was for sure, though he was also certain the blonde would firmly disagree. "How long has that been going for?"

If he hadn't gotten to know her, Oliver would've thought the comment was a mean one. But, as he'd learned in the time since actually speaking to Tink, the reference to his nonexistent visitors was characteristic of the kind of attitude he'd typically seen her stick to. "I was telling the truth," he confirmed with a shrug. "I'm kinda used to it, honestly--I don't really feel the need to keep around too many friends." Maybe it was a red flag, but he was mostly friendly with the men who he worked with, and that was enough for Smee. "You, on the other hand, were the picture of popularity, so, I think a comparison is unfair," Oliver argued. "Did all your friends wind up okay, in the end?" It was a courtesy to ask, though there was only one person who he really cared about hearing the status of.
