Lord of the Stars || Chekov & The Doctor {Drabble}
“Chekov, I need you to listen to me very closely.” The Doctor said to his young Russian companion. “I’m taking you back to the Enterprise.” Chekov went to argue with the Doctor but he was cut off. “Don’t! They didn’t see you, they won’t know where to look for you. As far as they’re concerned I didn’t have anyone with me. The stop on the Enterprise will just seem like a stop to distract them.”
“Can’t I help you fight them?” Chekov pleaded. He didn’t want his time on the TARDIS to end. Not yet, not ever. He had seen so many fantastic things, had been to planets Starfleet wouldn’t find for another hundred years, or more!
“I’m not going to fight them, it seem this is one battle I’m going to lose, but I can at least make sure they don’t get to you.” Without another word the Doctor starting running around the console of the TARDIS setting it to go back to the Enterprise a minute after they had originally left. Chekov stood there in shock just watching the Doctor and shaking his head. He was just going to give up? In the time Chekov had been traveling with the Doctor he had never known the impossible man to just give up. The TARDIS shook and rocked as they flew back to the Enterprise. Soon Chekov heard the same alarms that had been going off back when they first left. He was really back. “Go Chekov, I need to get out of here before your crew members come down here.” Where they really his crew members anymore? He had spent so much time with the Doctor that now he was his crew. With a frown and tears in his eyes he walked down the ramp to the door. Sure he understood why the Doctor was doing this, didn’t mean he liked it. Just as Chekov reached for the door the Doctor called out to him. “Hey Chekov,” He turned and looked back at the alien he had come to call his friend. “You’ve been one of my best companions I’ve ever had. Oh there was so much more I wanted to show and teach you. I was even going to teach you to fly the TARDIS.” The Doctor eyes were watery and he was trying to keep his voice from cracking. ”You were like a son to me.” The Doctor said before motioning back to the door. “Go on, they’ll be coming soon.” With a nod Chekov turned back and walked out of the TARDIS and down the corridor towards his station without looking back. He couldn’t look back, it would be too painful. As he made it halfway down the first corridor he heard the sound of the TARDIS dematerialize and a tear ran down his face.
No one on the Enterprise ever realized Chekov had gone missing for that minute in their time. He continued to work on the Enterprise though it was never the same. After seeing all he had, nothing they discovered was as amazing as it had been while on the TARDIS. Chekov always daydreamed about his adventures with the Doctor in the TARIDS and wondered if he had made it out alive. Many, many years later when Chekov was on his deathbed, as he lay there in his last moments that he closed his eyes and heard the sound of the TARDIS like it was just yesterday. When he opened his eyes again there stood the Doctor, the TARDIS a few feet behind him looking exactly the same as he had all those years ago. Chekov let out a laugh and shook his head, his eyes filling with tears. “Oh you impossible man!” The Doctor just smiled and sat by his bed. A few moments later Chekov closed his eyes and took his last breath with a smile on his face and his memories of his time in the TARDIS.
