when zane had messaged noah about his car, he was sitting at silver sins downing his whatever-th glass. he had stopped counting the drinks months ago, realizing that by the end of the night he usually forgot what amount he was at anyway. not that he really cared, anyway. none of it worked like it used to. now it just made him numb, but the thoughts were all still there. it didn’t make him numb enough.
what felt like fifteen minutes later, noah glanced at the clock and noticed that almost an hour had gone by. zane had said he’d be arriving around now. plenty of people had left during his stay, but only a few had come in. when he stood up, the bartender looked at him quizzically. noah’d made a habit of only being there for under an hour or he’d close down the bar. “i’ll be right back, don’t you worry your pretty little head,” he joked, rolling his eyes as he saw the figure sigh in relief, glad that noah wasn’t taking his business elsewhere for the night.
he slid his jacket back on as he walked out the door and he pulled a cigarette pack from his pocket, an intermittent habit he’d picked up over the years. he usually was able to keep a pack for well over a month before having to replace it. now seemed like as good of a time as any to dwindle the count in his pack, especially if he could multitask watching for his friend’s arrival. he brought a cigarette to his lips and lit it, taking a deep breath. then, reminded of a previous night, he took the obligatory steps away from the building to avoid the staff berating him.
Zane was freezing. His knees were turning blue in beneath his skirt, and his fingers were numb. On top of all that, he had a broken car window. He'd have to pay for that, but at least he could get his wallet and keys now.
He parked his car and braced himself before he opened the door. People always stared at a boy in a skirt. Even one as beautiful as the one Zane had on. He was used to the stares at this point. Once he started going out in 'girls clothes' when he was 16, he quickly got over it. And in San Francisco people didn't stare much anyway. But this wasn't San Francisco.
He opened the door and walked out on the sidewalk, quickly spotting Noah. "Hey," He said with a smile, feeling butterflies in his stomach. "You know smoking causes cancer right?" He gave a teasing smile.
