I have enjoyed my time as the Diversity Scholar for the IUPUI University Library. IUPUI Diversity Hotspot has been successful in advertising and promoting diversity events, celebrations, and activities on campus. It is my hope that this blog has helped to foster cultural learning.

A special thank you to everyone who attended the Diversity Film Festival for 2012-2013.

We will taking a continual hiatus, starting today. All information and past post will remain available for future reference.

Leehom Wang - "Gai Bian Zi Ji"

  Birth name: Alexander Lee Hom Wang

Chinese-American and of Taiwanese decent

Genre: Pop, R&B, rap

Formally trained at the Eastman School of Music, Williams College and Berklee College of Music, his musical style is known for fusing Chinese elements with hip-hop and R&B.

Jay Sean – “Do You Remember” (Acoustic)

Birth name: Kamaljit Singh Jhooti

Indian-British, of Indian decent

Genre: R&B

British R&B singer/songwriter Jay Sean is notable for being one of the first British-Asian crossover stars and also for his international popularity, including five consecutive Top 40 singles in America.

Me Against Myself (2004), his debut album, became a Top 30 hit in the U.K., spawning a pair of Top Ten hit singles ("Eyes on You," "Stolen"); plus, the album became an even bigger hit in India, where it was a chart-topping success and went multi-platinum, thanks in part to Sean's appearance in the Bollywood film Kya Kool Hain Hum (2005).

Far East Movement – Rocketeer ft. Ryan Tedder

Dia’s first album: Red, 2011

Her musical career

Interview with Dia Frampton via halfkorean

Q: How did your parents meet? Dia: My mom took English lessons in Seoul, Korea, and my dad was an English teacher. He was not, however, her personal teacher. His friend also went over with my dad from America to teach English. His friend was my mom’s teacher. He set them up on a blind date.

Q: What do people who meet/see you think your ethnicity is? Dia: Filipino, Hawaiian or somewhere from South America.

Q: Did you ever experience any identity issues while growing up? Dia: No. I was actually always quite proud of being a little different.

Q: What is your favorite Korean food? Dia: All of it. I just learned how to make kimchee (김치) the other day from my mom. I really love bibimbop (비빔밥).

Justin Tokimitsu Nozuka is a Japanese-American singer-songwriter. Justin was born in New York to a Japanese father and an Canadian mother. He began writing songs at the age of 12.

About Charice

Charmaine Clarice Relucio Pempengco, better known as Charice, was born in San Pedro, Laguna, Philippines.

In May 2008, Charice was invited to guest on Oprah, for a themed show called World's Smartest Kids. She sang I Have Nothing by Whitney Houston and bought the audience to their feet, giving her another standing ovation.

Charice was signed by producer David Foster. She has sung duets with Andrea Bocelli in Italy and with her idol Celine Dion in Madison Square Garden. She also shared the stage with other big names such as Michael Buble and Josh Groban. She performed at three of President Barack Obama's pre-inauguration galas.

Her single Pyramid with singer Iyaz topped the Billboard Dance chart at #1. Her album sales during its first week landed her in the #8 spot on the US Billboard Hot 200 chart, making her the first ever Asian artist in history to enter the Billboard top 10.
