my mother and i did a version of this song together many years ago. it later ended up on my record “stoned alone” made under my coma cinema project.

when it came time to do the album version i was in one of the worst places of my life. i had alienated everyone including my own family. today i finally got this version back after thinking it had been lost completely.

i also managed to find about 15 or so recordings i thought were permanently lost. it’s been a difficult listen, drudging up memories and feelings and shit like that.

but i thought you might be interested in hearing this.

can i send u a demo?

Anyone can send us their music or recommendations any time they like ([email protected]) but I kind of want to be a bit more clear on our situation when it comes to demos.

Though I’m sure things will change as we move through the year, as of right now, we have (largely vinyl) releases planned up until about this time next year that we’re already beginning preliminary work on, so we’re not really actively searching for any new music to release at this given time.

We receive about 5 to 8 demo submissions a day, which is a huge amount of music to try and and sift through and consider for a release! Since there are only two of us who work on Orchid Tapes full time, the list of responsibilities that we have each day usually takes about 8+ hours to get though (plus the extra time that we spend on our other jobs and projects) which honestly doesn’t leave much time to go through that kind of volume of demo emails in any kind of sensible way.

At this point, we’ve never done a release that’s started with a demo submission, but we still try and listen to most things that are sent to us and write back with our thoughts when we find the time. I’m not saying this to discourage people from sending us their music, I know there are a lot of talented people that support us who make really amazing music, which is incredible, I just want people to know where we’re at.

At the very least I can encourage people to try and release their music themselves, or even put the work towards starting your own micro-label (I’ll post more information about this soon if people want). The reality of the situation is that in this day and age is that (and this might sound strange coming from a label) the role of smaller ‘indie labels’ is largely a passive one and most bands can do just fine without them as long as they’re making good music and they are proactive in trying to get themselves out there and build a name for themselves. Orchid Tapes was only founded because I was too shy to send out demo emails for the first Foxes in Fiction album and because I knew I would have a lot more fun trying to release it myself, even though I knew next to nothing about how to do that. Don’t be afraid to try something bold and new yourselves.
