Lingerie

Monoprint of an anorexic woman. For many women suffering with the disease, they believe that when they lose weight they will achieve a more "sexy slim" appearance. What they end up with though, is a skeletal childlike form which is showcased here. I chose to clothe her in lingerie, which should enhance a woman's appeal but here the viewer sees only the form.

Childhood

Sketch for my print displayed in the 2015 Louise Bourgeois exhibition at the Sidney Cooper Gallery. A lot of Bourgeois' work was autobiographical and I wanted to portray this with my piece. I chose to draw myself as a child before the background of my old house and clothes and allow the viewer to read what they think it means.

Kitchen

Lino print of my kitchen as part of my eating disorder project. As part of my project I wanted to explore rooms that had special significance to an eating disorder sufferer. The kitchen is one of the biggest of these as it's the preparation area for food and where a lot of food is stored. It can invoke the fear of eating too much or too little. It's the place where food is measured and portioned and things are divided into "good" or "bad" foods. I wanted to capture this bleakness and "black or white" thinking of foods in this print.

Binge in the Kitchen

Spray painting of a woman binge eating in a kitchen as part of my eating disorders project. Binge eating is common in many eating disorders(even Anorexia) but is hidden most of the time and becomes something shameful and secretive. I tried to capture this here by the shadowy scene showing the woman eating at night when no-one else can see. The viewer cannot see the food she has eaten but rather the negative space where it once was.
