Fanfic Friday Or: Young Royals fanfiction, week 1

The Nordic countries divides their year into weeks starting with the week that contains the first Thursday of the new year, the Young Royals years could be said to have started with the premiere on the 1st of July 2021, the Young Royals fanfiction year the date the first fanfics were published on AO3 the 2nd, a Friday.

Between the 2nd and the 8th of July there were 47 works posted in the Young Royals (TV2021) fandom.

In the tags of the first fic, out of the three posted that day, the author exclaimed; there aren't any tags yet!!! so they had to create them by themselves. It is a fic of 669 words in Swedish with Simon and Wille in focus. AO3 link: Imorgon The author has since then orphaned the fic. It is a truly sweet piece that also still contains angst similar to the tv show and does a wonderful job of showing Wilhelms conflicted indwelling.

The relationship pairings in that first week weren’t exclusively Simon/Wille, although they held the tag in 43 of the 47 fics we also had Felice/Sara (2 fics), Alex Claremont-Diaz/Henry Fox-Mountchristen-Windsor (4), Harry Styles/Louis Tomlinson (1), Erik/August Horn of Årnäs (1) and for the platonic pairings: Erik & Wilhelm (Young Royals) (6), Wilhelm (Young Royals) & Original Female Character(s) (1), Erik & August Horn of Årnäs (1), August Horn of Årnäs & Wilhelm (1).

Five of the works were in Swedish and the rest in English.

Wille got to be in 39 of the fics Simon in 29 Erik in 8 Sara in 5 Felice only got to be in 2 of the fics while August, as well as Kristina, Alex Claremont-Diaz and Henry Fox-Mountchristen-Windsor made an apparance in 4 of the published works .

What tags were used then?

Fluff was the most used tag that first week by being used for 17 fics, the other tags followed with: Angst (12) Canon Compliant (9) Not Beta Read (9) the yellow section Coming Out (7) Alternate Universe - Canon Divergence (7) Fluff and Angst (6) One Shot (4) Hurt/Comfort (4) Alternate Ending (4)

Longest fic: 5,955 words Shortest: 319 words Most hits was today a fic with 42,075 While one of the Swedish ones has the least hits with 595 Kudos left for fics published this week varies from 35 to 5,925 Amount of comments varies from 1 to 103 Of the fics from that first week, all has gotten bookmarked at least once.

The rating for that first week held mostly teen and up, while there still were fics that can be said being explicit sexual (a blowjob in that very first Swedish fic). The number of authors is hard to pin down since nine works has been orphaned, but five authors posted two fics, and one posted fics.

I was gonna make an comparison, to see how those first seven days differed from the other years up until now but since we are in a heatwave, I'm away on vacation plus fighting a cold I didn't have the capacity for it. What I can say is that between the 2nd and 8th of July there were:

20 fics updated in 2022 Wilhelm and Simon in most, angst the heaviest tag.

38 fics in 2023 Wilmon here the most. Established relationship the heaviest tag

34 fics in 2024 Simon was in most fics. Fluff carried the tag burden.

16 fics in 2025 Wilhelm was in most fics, fluff was again the most used tag.

Skating The Line - Chapter 8

Wille reached the middle of the room again and came to an abrupt halt. He couldn't keep doing this. He needed real movement, something to pour every last ounce of energy into until his knees were wobbly and his head finally a little quieter. Shucking off his sweats, he grabbed the first pair of training shorts he could find and pulled them over his legs. It was time to give the stationery bikes at the hotel gym a spin. Grabbing his water bottle, he reached for the gold handle of his room door and pulled it open, stopping in his tracks when he was faced with the person on the other side of it.  Simon had one hand lifted as if he'd been about to knock. It stayed there for a short moment as his eyes widened, then he seemed to shake himself out of his surprise and let it fall to his side. "Hey." "Hey", Wille got out, his throat having dried up to desert stage within the past couple of seconds. "Were you, uh, heading out?" Simon asked. "Me? Oh. No. Or, uh. Maybe. I– I wasn't expecting to see you here." Simon didn't laugh at his pathetic stammering. He also didn't roll his eyes, or cross his arms, or ask whether Wille had a problem with him being here. Instead, he stared back at Wille for an endless couple of seconds, before he nodded toward the room behind him. "Do you mind if I come in?"

The slow burn might finally be reaching fire territory with this one 😎 Chapter 8 is out now on AO3.

With his eyes closed and headphones on, Simon isn’t aware of his presence until Wille is already rolling onto the bed beside him, angled sideways so his feet hang off the edge. He presses his face against Simon’s ribs and Simon feels him inhale deeply.

Simon slips the headphones off one ear. “Hey,” he murmurs. “What’s up?”

“Taking a break. I need to finish this before I can let myself go to bed, but just wanted to be near you for a minute.”

“Okay.” Simon dances his fingers down Wille’s bare arm, tracing the cluster of freckles above his elbow. “I’m just chilling.”

“What are you listening to?”

“My phone is nearly full so I was trying to delete things and found some old stuff I forgot I had on there.”

“What kind of old stuff?” Wille lifts his head to rest his chin on Simon’s stomach.

Simon squirms. “Like voice memos, songs I was working on.”

“How old are we talking?”  

“Mostly high school. A few from uni.”

“Oh?”

“Yeah,” Simon says casually. He knows that glint in Wille’s eye. “Never did anything with them.”

“Can I hear them?”

“No.”

“Simon,” Wille wheedles.

“Of course they’re about you, if that’s what you’re after,” Simon scoffs, but his lips twitch.

Wille slings an arm across Simon’s waist and squeezes. “Please?”

“Absolutely not.”

Wille skates cool fingers up under the hem of Simon’s shirt. “Why not?”

“Because they’re not good.”

“I’ll be judge of that.”

“No, you won’t. Because I’ve already deleted them.”

“Simon!” Wille jolts. “No!”

The flicker of genuine feeling that passes across Wille’s face is enough to make Simon soften. “I didn’t delete them. Yet.”

“You can’t! I want to hear them. Please?”

 “No. You’ll be insufferable.”

Wille grins that toothy grin that still makes Simon’s stomach jump even after all this time. “Please?”

“Wille,” Simon groans.

“At least keep them for yourself.” Wille’s voice is suddenly serious, as he absently traces a pattern on the sensitive skin above Simon’s hip. “For… To remember the you you were back then.”

Simon shivers. “You’re a sap.”

Wille shrugs good-naturedly and Simon feels the movement over his entire body.

“How about a trade?”

Simon gives him a questioning look, and Wille rolls himself off Simon, off the bed, and only pauses when he’s in the doorway to toss back, “just give me a sec.”

“I thought you had something to finish up before we go to bed?” Simon calls after him.

When Wille returns two minutes later with one of his old notebooks, which Simon knows are usually stashed behind a row of books in the living room, he slides cross-legged onto the bed, facing Simon.

He flips through the pages, eyes scanning, that focused furrow in his brow that Simon adores, and he suddenly wonders if he’s ever told Wille how much.

“Aha,” Wille murmurs with satisfaction. “Here’s one.” He sets the notebook down and unfolds a piece of paper that was tucked in between the pages.

His eyes scan across the sheet. When he glances up to meet Simon’s curious gaze, his eyes are a bit shinier than a moment ago.

“Simon,” Wille begins. He clears his throat.

“I know everything has gotten so fucked up. I never know what to do.

“It’s not your fault. It’s not Alexander’s fault. It’s not my fault. I wish it were August’s fault but it kind of isn’t. It’s just a shitty situation.

“Did this kind of stuff ever happen to Erik? What did he do? I wish I could ask him.”

It feels strange to be the only one laying down so Simon awkwardly curls up to sit so he’s facing Wille fully, legs splayed. His eyes never leave Wille’s face.

Wille pauses as he adjusts, then goes on:

“I don't know what to do. I wish he were here. I wish you were here.

“I know you're mad at me. Would you still hold me? Or let me hold you? Maybe this wouldn't feel so impossible if you were here.

“I just wanted to feel okay for a little bit... At the party. Or not even okay. Just… blank. Not horrible. Not Erik gone. You gone. Not my future… what the fuck even is my future? How is that even me?

“I’m afraid I’m about to lose you again. And it feels even worse this time, now that I’ve gotten to have you     to be with you    to know what it’s like to be with you, even a little bit. I think I'm in love I think I’m in love with you and I’m terrified.”

Wille clears his throat again. “Uh, that’s it.”

Simon rests his hands on Wille’s thighs, bracing himself so he can lean in to press a light kiss to the corner of Wille’s mouth, his cheek, just below his eye, where unshed tears glint. “When did you write that?” he says, voice low.

“Uh…” Wille flips the page over. “It must have been before Lucia. Remember how everything–“

“I remember,” Simon cuts him off gently. He presses a kiss to Wille’s mouth. “I think I'm in love with you, too.”

He feels Wille smile against his lips. “Love you.”

They're quiet for a moment, faces close.

“Guess I have to let you listen to one of my songs now, huh?” Simon finally says, but he knows the wet gravel of his voice gives him away.

Simon sits back to scoop up his phone. He toggles through, forehead creased in concentration. “Okay. So remember Rousseau?”

“What–? Felice’s–?”

Simon is helpless to hold a straight face when confronted with Wille’s comically surprised expression, and neither can contain the laughter that bubbles up.

“No more fucking with me,” Wille grumbles. “I was all vulnerable.”

They’re momentarily distracted, exchanging soft, smiley kisses.

Finally Simon pulls back. “So. Remember those weeks we stayed at Felice’s lake house that first summer? And you found me messing around on the piano a few times?”

Wille nods happily.

“While you were perfecting your overhand serve, I was busy being embarrassing.”

Simon passes Wille the headphones.

“I never gave it a proper title because I never really finished it, but it’s the one called Wrong-v2....”

Sunday Snippet

A bit late in the day, sorry, but here is another snippet from Stockholm Archipelago Cabin Fic (working title). Nsfw so under a cut x

“What would you like?” Wille murmured.

“Fuck, just… Touch me. Please.” Simon didn’t want to use words right now. Wille’s thumb was swiping over the head of his cock, smearing the precome that had already leaked out.

“Mmmm… Where, though?” His tone was impish.

Simon whined.

“Here?” Wille’s hand left his cock, fingers walking down the side of his ribs towards his hip.

Simon giggled at the tickling touch. He shook his head.

“Here?” Wille teased his nipple, the back of his index finger barely grazing the soft bud.

“God!”

Agonisingly slow, Wille’s hand moved around until he was stroking Simon’s back, following the bumps of his spine all the way down to the curve of his ass. After a few moments of teasing hesitation, he pressed his fingers between Simon’s cheeks, his touch firm, but gentle, “Here?”

Wille’s slept in a lot of beds in his life. In hotel beds. In huge, cold, lonely beds at the palace. In narrow ones at Hillerska, haunted with too many memories.

The bed at home isn’t really anything special. The mattress was a compromise, the frame flatpacked and a real pain to assemble. Yet it’s the one bed he always looks forward to falling asleep in.

Because in that bed there’s also Simon. Curling against his body, hogging the blanket and taking up space that is technically Wille’s. Their bed is the one that is warm and feels like home.

“Can’t believe you kept this one,” Simon chuckles, picking up the old faded polaroid picture. They were so young back when it was taken. So unprepared for everything.

“Why wouldn’t I?” The look on Wille’s face is genuinely puzzled.

Simon huffs out another laugh. “There’s so many better ones.”

Wille nods and takes the photo from Simon. “Yeah. But this is one of the first ones of us.” He glances down, traces the outline of their faces. ”That’s what makes it special.”

“You’re a sap.” Simon says but can’t help the fond smile tugging at the corners of his mouth.

Hi! Thanks for sending a prompt! (Still happy to take any from this list if you don't mind potentially waiting several days).

I had a grand total of 40 minutes free in this whole day. And this is what I chose to do with it. I hope you enjoy!

Exhaustion weighs down Simon's limbs as he trudges through the hosipital corridors – bustling despite the late hour. It took several hours for them all to be seen, especially because they needed to wait for a second opinion on Ayub's eye. Luckily the agreement was that the stitches would be enough, there was no debris in there, the swelling would go down over the next couple of days and it would likely heal up just fine.

Between the two of them they'd been lucky. Nothing broken, no concussion. A few nasty scrapes, a horrible bruise on Simon's knee, and three stitches on Ayub's eyebrow.

It could have been much worse.

Simon is gutted that his favourite jeans are ruined though.

There's a yelp and a clatter and suddenly Simon has been enveloped into Wille's arms.

"Ouch," he mumbles against Wille's collarbone.

"Fuck! Sorry!" Wille stumbles back and holds Simon at arm's length, red-ringed eyes darting feverishly around Simon's face. "Sorry. That was stupid of me. I— How are you? What— Are you okay? Is anything— No, of course not. What—"

"Wille," Simon interrupts. "I'm fine." It's a slight lie. Everything hurts, he's really fucking tired, and he feels bad that Ayub's moped is likely wrecked beyond repair. Really, what he wants is to go home and curl up in his boyfriend's arms and sleep. For several days.

"You're not fine!" Wille cries. It draws the attention of some curious people sitting in the waiting room. He lowers his voice and tugs Simon over to the side. "That was really fucking scary, Simon. It was— When Sara managed to get hold of me… I'm so sorry I didn't answer when you called. It…" Tears are welling up in Wille's eyes and, before Simon can stop them, they tumble over his lashes and down his cheeks. "I almost lost you," he whispers, voice raspy and choked up.

Heat floods Simon's face. Partly from embarrassment and partly from fondness.

"No you didn't," he argues. "It was fine— It was just—"

"It wasn't just," Wille retorts. "They sent an ambluance. For all I knew you could have—"

"Wille." Simon reaches up and places both of his palms on Wille's cheeks. "I'm fine. I was fine the whole time. I was fine enough to call. You didn't have to leave the—"

"Yes I did," Wille fumes. "Of course I did, Simon. You are so much more important than some stupid meeting with—"

"With the prime minister," Simon interrupts with a raised eyebrow.

"You could have died."

"No I couldn't. He wasn't even going that fast. If the motorist hadn't—"

"It was a car?" Wille looks horrified. "Simon— You could have— It could have—" No more words make it out of Wille's mouth as the tears start falling with renewed vigour. 

Before Simon can protest, Wille has pulled him into a slightly more gentle but no less desperate hug. "Simon," Wille sobs into his shoulder. "Simon. I don't know— What if…" More cut off sentences tumble over each other as Wille's body shakes against his own. 

Helpless, Simon strokes Wille's back and quietly wishes that they could at least be sitting down. His whole body aches.

"I don't know what I'd have done if— What if— I can't lose you, Simon. I can't— You're everything. I can't imagine my life—" Suddenly, Wille stands straight again, cheeks gllistening with tears but an alarmingly determined expression on his face. "Simon." His voice is much steadier than it was, and Simon isn't sure whether to be concerned about the fire in his eyes.

"Yeah?"

"Marry me."

A noise of some kind gets stuck in Simon's throat on the way up and he coughs and splutters for a moment before choking out, "I'm sorry, what?"

"Marry me," Wille repeats as if that isn't the most fucking ridiculous thing anyone has ever said in the history of the world.

"Wille…"

"I mean it. I— I never want to be without you. I want to spend the rest of my life with you. Why not start that now?"

"Because we're seventeen years old, Wille."

"So?" A bit of petulance has crept into the defiance. "It doesn't mean I don't know. You're it for me, Simon."

"I know," Simon rushes out. "And you're it for me. But that doesn't mean—"

"Why not? Why can't it?"

"Wille… Come on. It's late, and I'm tired, and you've been here for… how long? Have you even eaten anything? You're still in your suit. Let's go home."

Wille looks at him for a long moment and then deflates a little. "You're right," he says. "Sorry. Fuck. Of course. Let's get you home. Do you have a bag or anything?"

Whilst Wille fusses over getting them to the waiting car (Simon has no fight left in him to protest too much), Simon thinks about what Wille said.

It's not like he doesn't want to marry Wille, quite the opposite, but… He still stands by his point that they're seventeen years old. And, sure, they've been through a lot together, but he still knows getting married at seventeen is a really fucking bad idea.

Still, as they're driving home, rain running down the windows, hands clasped firmly together on the middle seat, Simon can't help but let the giddiness fill his whole chest. He rests his head on Wille's shoulder and smiles as Wille drops a kiss to his hair.

Wille might be an impulsive, over-dramatic romantic. But it is nice to feel this loved.
