Age of Aquarius:
The Series (AO3) Complete Works (including side stories) (AO3) Age of Aquarius blog
when people tag posts "unreality" it's a signal to people who struggle with discerning reality that a (likely scary if believed to be true) post is not real even though it's written as if it was. it's also a filter tag so those people can opt out of seeing posts like that entirely. many people who rely on the unreality tag are psychotic and struggle with paranoia alongside (or because of) the struggles discerning what's real. posts that these people interpret to be real can lead to incredible distress and compulsions.
when someone tags your post "#unreality" and you screenshot the tags and say "what are you talking about? this is real" because you consider the post easy to discern as not real and find this joke funny you're actually just causing paranoia for people who now feel like they can't trust the unreality tag. not everyone has the same reality discernment skills as you. what's "obviously" a fictional story to you may not be obvious to other people.
I don't think most people make this joke maliciously. I think most people making this joke don't even realize why the unreality tag exists. anyways, if you've made this joke or have the urge to make this joke then consider not doing that.

From the Nashville Zoo’s fb page! Here’s the petition, please please please take a moment to add your name (even if you’re not from Nashville!). If you are from Tennessee, contact your representatives and make it clear that the people do not want this data center. This is an AZA accredited zoo which is home to several species of critically endangered animals, we NEED to protect it. Make your voice heard!
Because people will pay attention to cute animals, here are some of the critically endangered/endangered species housed at the Nashville Zoo!
The Amur Leopard and Clouded Leopard (which recently celebrated its 50th cub born at the zoo!)
The Sumatran Tiger
The Red Ruffed Lemur and Ring-Tailed Lemur
The Cotton-Top Tamarin and White-Cheeked Gibbon
The Colobus Monkey and De Brazza’s Monkey
And the Mexican Spider Monkey!
Look at them!!!! Look at them and fight like hell to save them!!!!

I love it when a researcher from a marginalized group proves an important point.
Sorry to keep banging on about this! I just have a few days left to meet the funding goal!

hey, blog! 🌸 anon here. I think there are probably other posts about long fic, but I was wondering if you or others have any advice on sticking to a single long story instead of jumping to another? I'm mostly of a short fic writer myself, and I'm so interested in the secrets long fic writers possess. Anyway, thank you for running this blog! An awesome project :)
I'll give you my secrets as a fellow short fic writer who sometimes dips into medium-fic and the occasional long fic.
Be obsessed with your story. This can go a LONG way to helping you maintain your motivation. Daydream about it. Make playlists about it. Talk to friends about it.
Try to make each chapter feel like a oneshot. Give it an opening, a middle, and a closing. Have some character development or achieve a plot point or drop a clue that will be used later in the story. The more you can give yourself the satisfaction you get from a oneshot, the better.
Do jump to oneshots on the side to keep you going through the long fic. Sometimes you really do need to get the feeling of "done" to be able to continue something that's still in progress. Don't deny yourself that feeling just because you think you should. Life needs dessert and short fic writers need completed works.
Embrace a B plot (and a C plot and a D plot). These side plots can last for a single chapter or can be threaded through the whole story or they can bridge from chapter 12 to chapter 18. Whatever their final form, these smaller stories-within-the-story also help to satisfy the need for a short, punchy hit of dopamine when the story is starting to feel huge.
I'll leave it there for now and open it up. How do the rest of you go about writing longer stories? Especially if you typically prefer to write shorter.
Cosigned, for sure. Especially talking to friends. NOTHING keeps me motivated more than someone else who's excited to talk about the story.
But also honestly I had to learn to think differently about writing, structurally. Most of the time when I lose interest in a long fic, it's because there's something I'm doing wrong with the structure. Maybe I'm trying to write a boring connective scene that could be skipped. Maybe the characters' motivations aren't juicy enough. Maybe there's a gaping plot hole that I've been pretending isn't there. With one shots, that mostly doesn't happen to me - I'm writing about a limited moment in time where by definition something interesting is happening. With longfic, I have to make a lot more judgement calls about what is and isn't interesting enough to be included.
It’s the final few days of the Bluminarmour Project! After some issues with Kickstarter let’s see how far we can get!
If you want to see fantasy tropes, historical movement and silly tricks tested in authentic full plate armour, please consider chucking a few quid over (or like and share this post):

Update on this:
Kickstarter removed my highest funding tier so I lost £11k of funding since earlier today.
BUT
I’ve managed to get the deadline extended in light of this. So this might still happen!
We’re into the last week now! This is close enough that I think this could actually happen, but it’s still got a way to go!
If this is something that interests you, please consider donating or sharing!
