Just finished rewatching Invader Zim for the billionth time (I was showing it to a friend) and one of my Observations™ this time around is that despite Professor Membrane being famous and presumably very wealthy—at least wealthy enough to add an entire wing to his home on a whim—Dib and Gaz still attend the most horrible, underfunded public school in the world. It’s a really funny detail to think about that leads to a lot of interesting conclusions:

Membrane is so dedicated to science that he spends every penny he has on his research and inventions at the cost of his kids’ education.

Dib and Gaz (or maybe just one of the two, probably Dib) got kicked out of every private school in the area for bad behavior (this one seems unlikely to me since Dib’s classmates all act like they’ve known him for a long time).

The skool actually is a nice private academy, but in this crapsack world that’s as good as it gets.

The school started as a nice private school, but Dib caused so many “incidents” over the years that he single-handedly tanked its entire budget (all this before Zim showed up).

Membrane doesn’t want his kids (or himself) to get caught up in the social politics of other rich kids and their families.

Membrane wants his kids to have a “normal” childhood at a “normal” school, completely oblivious to the fact that Dib is bullied relentlessly by his peers.

The school is actually part of one of Membrane’s experiments. This sounds weird, but there’s evidence to suggest this in the show. They put on a whole assembly to announce one of Membrane’s new inventions and the election episode features both a lot of randomly advanced tech and a shadow council seemingly there to maintain the status quo (like the control group in a scientific test?). Keep in mind that in a previous episode the school was so broke that Dib had to replace his desk with a trash can.

Ms. Bitters is embezzling the school for all it’s worth.

#I like all of these but for some friggin reason no 6 makes perfect sense #it also makes me laugh the hardest #lol #no 8 too

did some digging (as i do) and found jimmy in the iz art style!!!

supposedly he was supposed to just be some character in one of the cut episodes of iz because of the cancellation of the show. the ep was titled "the trial".

there's no way this wasnt intended to be jimmy because of the whole story about invader zim not being allowed to create a killer pants from space episode since jimmy neutron already had one in production. also, LOOK AT THE DESIGN LOL. "horrible cartoon kid".... its so funny and i wish we couldve seen the episode come to life </3
