“Okay, come on. We are minutes from the Bells and I don’t have someone to kiss me?” Jake scoffed. He might have been sober, but he was still riddled with confidence and he could not be stopped from addressing the entire party. “Me and my beautiful face have never been so offended.”

You could probably write a book.” She mused. “Oscar and Madeline Powell?” She wondered if he’d know of any Powell’s but maybe not since he seemed to not have lived here his whole life. “Well… I haven’t actually seen them in twelve years. So…” She supposed she didn’t know, but she knew she’d had to try and make things right no matter where it was. “I’m sure I’ll be fine.” She doubted very much she’d be someone targeted and she was usually pretty careful these days with her safety.

“You know, you’re probably right. Might even be a bestseller.” He laughed then nodded. “Yeah, I’ve seen them around.” Jake couldn’t remember if he had ever actually had a conversation with either of them, but maybe he had at a party. “Twelve years? Geez, why not?” Maybe that was a bit intrusive, but Jake had never been able to fight his curiosity.

Danielle laughed, giving a shrug. “Well. I guess you can’t be too picky of your mates in Murderville, huh?” She teased, chuckling. “Yeah… I wouldn’t mind getting to see a bit more of it, if you wanted company.”

“What’s life without a little risk, eh?” For all he knew, this girl could be a killer herself, but if they all started thinking like that no one would go anywhere. “Yeah?” Jake’s smile grew a little wider, “Yeah, I’d like that. I- Uh... I’m Jake.” He really should start making a note of who he actually knew in town. Most people had probably met him at a party when he was blackout drunk; hopefully he hadn’t already introduced himself in the past.

“A lonely one.” Cynthia chuckled, shrugging slightly at him. “But if you don’t want to come home with me, I’ll try not to be too upset about it.” She pouted, looking at him.

Jake chuckled and nodded, “Very true.” He shook his head, pushing the awful drink away from him and grabbing his coat. “Saying no to that pout would just be a crime.” The distance between them grew smaller when he stood from his bar stool and he made no attempt to step back. “Shall we?”

Cynthia made a face when he took a sip of his drink, shaking her head. She couldn’t imagine what he was drinking. She moved her eyes to his face when he rolled his eyes, biting her lip slightly. “You know, I could probably make you a virgin mojito. If you wanted to come back to my place.”

Jake’s eyes dropped to her mouth when she bit her lip and he couldn’t stop the smirk that tugged on his lips. “Yeah? What kind of a man would I be if I turned down an invitation like that?” A virgin mojito though? Jake had never done anything like this while sober and he wasn’t sure he could start now. Last thing he needed was to look nervous.

Freya looked up at him with a little tilt of her head. She knew the name Annie Pierce by now. “Wait, really?” She chuckled humourlessly because it wasn’t really funny, she was just a bit stunned, but she supposed a lot of people might have ties like that in a town like this. “Evan Johnson, I think…” She glanced back at the paper and nodded. “Yeah.” She looked up at him again and shrugged. “Well… family, honestly. My, uh, brother and sister are here.”
“Yeah, Sasha is my cousin. And my cousin, Brad, was one of the first victims. Town is fucked.” Jake laughed too, but the lack of humour matched hers. “Huh... Don’t think I know him.” He shrugged, lifting his finger from the paper. “Oh? Who’s your brother and sister? They worth all the murder?”

“Some, yeah. I never got round to watching all of it but I remember liking it.”
“Cool.” He nodded, skimming over the back cover. “Well, not to be a creep in Murderville, but if you ever wanted to watch it with me, I’ll own it in like two minutes.”

Cynthia quirked a brow at his mentioning temptation. She knew she wouldn’t be strong enough to be at a bar and not drink and she hoped that day would never come. She made a face at his drink when it arrived. “Something tells me you should have stuck to a Shirley Temple.” She teased gently. She looked over at him as he ordered her a refill, trying to hide the smile at him calling her a young lady, knowing he was just being polite. “Seems not only is your taste questionable, but your eye sight as well.”
Jake released a laugh, attempting to drink whatever the bartender had placed in front of him. “Maybe you’re right. I don’t even think there’s mint in this.” He laughed again as he examined the leafy green in the glass; definitely wasn’t mint. “Oh come on...” He rolled his eyes, “You know you’re stunning.”

Cynthia nodded, looking at him when he said he didn’t drink anymore. “So now you just come to the bar to watch older women drink?” She teased, though mostly she had added the older women part in hopes that he would say she wasn’t older. Always looking for the compliment though she knew lately it usually came back to bite her in the ass. “Right now I just have a Moscow mule. I like the cups.”
Jake laughed, almost nervously, but his confident smirk remained. “Maybe I just like being surrounded by temptation.” He was talking about the alcohol, but his suggestive eyebrow implied otherwise. His fake mojito arrived causing him to roll his eyes. Nothing about it looked right. “Another Moscow Mule for this beautiful young lady.” Jake directed to the bartender, “If that isn’t too complex for you.”

“Seems kinda scary.” She chuckled, looking over at him. She didn’t really know how to feel about any of it. “I can’t really figure it out, something about a past murder having a supposed new killer? I dunno. Sounds like something from a movie, this whole town.” She couldn’t help but laugh a bit at that. “You lived here your whole life then?” Freya wondered, wanting to keep making conversation.
“Probably should be, but when your cousin done in Annie Pierce, there’s really not much more to be scared of.” He was joking, of course, this town was fucking terrifying sometimes. “Huh... Really? Does it have the victim’s name?” He asked, finger still on the newspaper. “Nah. Was born here, but I grew up in London. My cousins lived here though, so I’ve been in and out. What brings you here?”

“Hm. I think I definitely gotta say Westworld.” She nodded, smiling lightly.
“Yeah?” He looked at the two of them, then put Revenge back. “Westworld it is then. Have you seen it?”
“So… this town is pretty crazy, huh?” She made a face, glancing back down at the paper. She probably shouldn’t have picked it up but if she was going to be here for a while looking for her family, she wanted to know what she was getting herself in for.
Jake made an amused face as he turned to face her, “You have no idea how much of an understatement that is.” He laughed briefly, using a finger to curl her newspaper backwards so he could see the headline. “And what crazy things are happening here today?”

“I didn’t wanna ruin the ending, but yeah, I fucked them both. Well… I fucked her. He offered up a blowjob that I was not hetero enough to turn down.” His hands were moving all over the place as he spoke, “But these two were legit still screaming at each other and my hand has yet to move. From what I can gather, he was calling her a control freak and obsessive and he was trying to claim that he was gay in order to get her to accept a dumping.”
Penny listened to his story, shaking his head. “I feel like if a guy is claiming to be gay just to get away from some girl, that probably isn’t a girl that you should stick your dick in. What if she becomes obsessed with you?”
“Listen. You’re not wrong. But when you’re eight vodkas deep and a bro needs a hand, what else can you do?” He gave a dramatic shrug, hands in the air. “Anyway, it’s cool. I think they made up. Like I think my dick healed their relationship.”

“Sorry.” Danielle scrunched her nose a little, shrugging. “But I mean, sure, I’ll listen?”
Jake waved a hand, “Don’t worry about it.” He picked up two DVD boxsets and presented them to her. “Westworld or Revenge?”

“I- Uh...” Jake looked down, releasing a short laugh before returning his eyes to her, “I don’t really drink... anymore.” It was stupid. He wasn’t an alcoholic, he just had some bad coping methods. He just didn’t want his dad to send him away again. “What are you drinking?”

Cynthia looked over at the person next to her as they tried to explain something to the bartender. “That doesn’t sound right, but I’m not sober enough to correct you.”
“It should just not be this difficult to make a fake mojito.” Jake replied in frustration, his hands gently hitting the counter as he turned to face the woman. His irritation eased, however, when he saw her and the corner of his lips tugged into a smirk. “Hello.”
