me, violently beating back my emotions with a broom: for the last time i said shut the FUCK up
JACOB KATZMAN: ABOUT
GENERAL
first name? jacob. surname? katzman. middle name? alexander. nicknames? jake, jakey, katzman. on the more silly/ironic side: catman, catdaddy, katillac. date of birth? january 9th, 1987. age? thirty two.
APPEARANCE
height? 5âČ11âł. build? fit ectomorph. hair color? dark brown. hairstyle? itâs on the longish side, to his chin. he keeps it swept back, typically using product to keep it loosely in place. eye color? dark brown. face shape? diamond. race/ethnicity? ashkenazi jew, european. glasses or contact lenses? neither, he has great vision. he will, however, occasionally wear tinted glasses simply because he likes the look. distinguishing facial features? his roman-shaped nose, and protruding eyes. types of clothes? jake wears business casual. tucked in shirts with the sleeves rolled up, dress pants, and loafers. never a tie (unless, of course, an event calls for it). how do they wear their clothes? again, tucked in shirts with rolled up sleeves. additionally, heâll leave a button or two unbuttoned--the more casual the event, the more buttons unbuttoned. he also wears a lot of blues (light and dark), grays, whites, and browns. mannerisms? he uses his hands to talk, touches his face/hair when heâs thinking/talking, and has the tendency to stare off into space.
FAMILY
father? david katzman, 70. a retired corporate lawyer/partner at a well respected/known firm in manhattan: katzman and pinkett. he now works as a legal consultant to stay busy. mother? barbara katzman, 65. former administrative assistant. became a full time housewife when jacob was born/when davidâs firm became far more successful. sister? tiffany katzman, 34. paralegal at katzman and pinkett. relationship with each? with his father: jake is close with his dad, though it seems they have kind of a... professional relationship rather than a father-son relationship. the way his dad talks to him is more along the lines of a mentor talking to his apprentice, but jake has never had an issue with that. with his mother: jake is his momâs BABY BOY. her only son. the light of her life. sheâs very publicly proud of him and his accomplishments, and she talks him up to everyone she meets. every time he visits, she kisses him, pinches his cheeks, and gives him hugs. there is no denying that jake is close with his mother, even though her overly-affectionate attitude towards him feels like a bit much to him at times. he calls her at least twice a week, and she is his main connection to everything going on at home. with his sister: jake and tiffany do not get along. when jake was first brought home from the hospital, the first thing tiffany had to say was âtake it backâ. growing up, they were always tormenting each other, fighting, and making mean comments about one another. no matter what their mother did to encourage getting along, nothing ever seemed to stick. even now as adults, theyâre very immaturely hateful towards one another. through it all, however, they still technically love each other.Â
PERSONALITYÂ
what words/phrases do they overuse? jake says âoh?â and âi donât careâ often. are they more optimistic or pessimistic? pessimistic. are they introverted or extroverted? somewhere in the middle. an ambivert. what bad habits do they have? being judgmental, imposing his beliefs on others, talking over people. what makes them laugh out loud? well-established inside jokes. how do they display affection? lots of touching (whether itâs romantic, like touching someoneâs thigh/lower back/cheek. or platonic, like touching someoneâs shoulder/arm.), smiling, joking around. how do they want to be seen by others? successful and capable. how competitive are they? extremely. he will make a competition out of anything. do they make snap judgments or take time to consider? mostly snap. he wonât think critically unless heâs having an in depth discussion, or when heâs called upon to. how do they react to praise? rather... smugly. like he knew he did a good job. how do they react to criticism? typically defensive. when itâs from someone he views as below him, heâll get angry before dismissing it entirely. if itâs from someone he views as equal/above him, heâll still show signs of being defensive before deciding to do better (usually for petty reasons). what is their greatest fear? settling. what is their philosophy of life? that there is always something to fight for. when was the last time they cried? jake doesnât cry a lot. in fact, it can seem like heâs a robot with no emotions more often than not. but the last time he cried was when he came to the realization that he and odessa werenât on the same life path, and that the only resolution at the time was saying goodbye. what are their political views? he is a registered democrat, leaning towards the more liberal side of the spectrum. heâs pro-choice, anti-gun, and a firm believer in taxing corporations/the one percent. he does not get along with a good chunk of conservatives. what are their pet peeves? people who arenât registered to vote/donât care to change that. slow walkers/talkers. loud eaters. smacking of gum. people who wait around to be told what to do instead of taking initiative.
PAST AND FUTURE
what was your character like as a baby? as a child? as a baby, jake was very well behaved and quite happy. he giggled a lot, smiled a lot, and hardly ever cried. everyone who ever took care of him said he was the easiest baby to tend to. as a child, he was super argumentative and too smart for his own good. example: he was the one kid who told all the kids who celebrated christmas that santa claus wasnât real. he wasnât afraid to tell other kids at his school that they were, in fact, stupid. on top of all that, he had a very leader-like essence about him. the kids in his grade followed him like ducks in a row. did they grow up rich or poor? his family is part of the upper-middle class--which mainly had to do with the fact that his parents became parents are a relatively âlaterâ age when their careers were firmly established. so because of that, jacobâs childhood teetered on the wealthier side of things. he went to private schools, after all. did they grow up nurtured or neglected? very, very nurtured. what was their first kiss like? horrible. it was with a girl a year older than him. tons of rumors surrounded her being super experienced, but after jake kissed her--he had a sense that she had no clue what she was doing, just like him. when he brought that up to her, he worded things in a way that was rude, and so she slapped him. what are their ambitions? right now, his long term goal is to become the campaign manager of a presidential campaign. what advice would they give their younger self? âsometimes people donât need to be told how bad they are at something.â what was their childhood ambition? his long term goal growing up was to get into an ivy league school. did they have an imaginary childhood friend? no, but when he was really young--he did try. simply because he thought it was something he had to do. when he realized it was something that wasnât required, he moved on. when was the last time they were crushed with disappointment? circling back to his relationship with odessa--the last time jake was crushed with disappointment was when she drew the line for herself, and decided she didnât want to be pushed the way jake was pushing her. it was a lot of frustration early on. the disappointment didnât arrive until the dust began to settle.
LOVE
do they believe in love at first sight? no. but at times, he wished that he had the kind of light-hearted personality that allowed for beliefs like that. are they in a relationship? itâs complicated. how do they behave in a relationship? jake is super affectionate with his partners. hand holding. an arm around their waist. pda. heâll also send them flowers, and call them when heâs away from them. heâs a very relationship-oriented person if the person heâs with feels right to him. if not? heâs alarmingly distant and unaffectionate. has your character ever been in love? itâs hard to say, heâs not super in tune with his emotions like that--but he knows for sure that if anything, heâs been close. have they ever been heartbroken? yes.
WORK / EDUCATION / HOBBIES
what is their current job? a campaign field director. what do they think of their current job? he enjoys it. he likes the impact heâs making, and the exciting âup in the airâ feeling of it all. but he knows heâd like to be doing more within the campaign, that heâs capable of doing more. what are some of their past jobs? a server at a restaurant to a variety of internships, to a political analyst, to his current position.  educational background? he went to private school for grades k-12. from there, he went on to study at harvard where he graduated with honors in political science. do they have a natural talent for something? jake is scary good at written tests of any kind. what are their hobbies? he reads a lot of books and watches a lot of movies. heâs a little bit of a movie buff. he also really enjoys beer on a level thatâs lowkey snobbish. do they play a sport? are they any good? he was on his middle schoolâs AND high schoolâs respective swim teams. he never took it super seriously, but he was pretty good at it. during the off season for swimming, he did cross country. he enjoyed the latter thoroughly.Â
DAILY LIFE
what are their eating habits? he eats very healthily, sticks to a somewhat strict diet that compliments his workout routine. he does, however, have a scary fast metabolism and can honestly get away with eating absolute garbage all while staying thin. what is their home like? as it currently stands, jake has two homes. his âmainâ home in brooklyn, and his temporary home in richmond. both are extremely tidy. heâs always been a super clean person. his home in brooklyn reflects his personality a bit more than his richmond residence--as it is decorated with art, and modern furniture, whereas the richmond home is barren and cold, reminding him of just how temporary it is. with all of that in mind, the richmond residence has a bit more of a âlived inâ quality to it, since itâs currently the home he spends his nights at. the brooklyn home instead feels a bit staged, like itâs on the market and furnished only to look good to potential buyers simply because heâs not there to give it the feeling that someone lives there. are they a minimalist or a clutter hoarder? a minimalist. heâs always prepared to move. what do they first do on a weekday morning? first thingâs first, heâll make coffee. second, heâll go for a jog. after that, heâll shower, eat breakfast, and then leave for work. what do they do on a sunday afternoon? sunday is his personal office day, so he spends most of the day knocking out stuff he needs to complete for the week. if he doesnât have anything he needs to finish, though, he dedicated the day to relaxing/spending time with his loved ones. what do they do on a friday night? it depends on the friday in question. sometimes heâll hit the gym. other times heâll go on a date or get drunk with friends. what is their soda of choice? in all honesty? jake doesnât drink soda, and honestly never has cared for it much in adulthood. when he was younger, though, he was partial to grape. what is their alcoholic drink of choice? beer. he likes to drink from local breweries.Â

iâve had a super busy week on my hands, and it looks like another one is on the horizon. ): iâll do what i can to be on the dash in the meantime!
ODESSAâ
ââShut up,â she replied with a laugh, gently shoving him in mock annoyance. âYou werenât quick enough. I was just nervous and didnât want you to see anything embarrassing. Like the amount of water bottles I had lying aroundâ you wouldâve been appalled.â As he explained what the painting in his New York home looked like, Odessaâs smile softened, her heart aching slightly. Itâd been years since theyâd broken up, but the fact that he had a painting hung up, that made him think of herâ it brought up emotions in her sheâd bottled up since that last fight they had. She swallowed them down, thoughâ she didnât want him to see her cry; it wasnât exactly a turn on. âIt sounds like a beautiful painting. I wish I could see it.â She was a bit caught off guard by his admission that she was what was missing in each of the places he lived; she flushed, a small smile pulling at her lips. âMe? Oh, Iâd definitely put some homely touches in them. Leave bras and towels everywhere. Kick my shoes off right in the entrance so when you walk in, you trip. Youâd hate it,â she mused with a wide grin, hand still gently running up and down his jaw.Â
When his hand left her thigh, she was a bit disappointedâ but only for a second, as he ran it over her body, before coming to rest on her back. She shifted closer; moving as he did, like a magnet. He was so close; all she had to do was angle her face up, and sheâd be kissing him. But she waited, the anticipation building as she silently begged him to give her what she wanted. As he leaned in, her eyes fluttered shut as his lips pressed against hers. She let out a quiet mewl, her hand moving from his collar around to his neck, gently pulling at his hair at the back of his head. She broke the kissâ just for a second, to inhale deeply, and shift from sitting beside him to kneeling, quickly crawling onto his lap before bringing her lips back to his, sliding one hand back into his hair, the other on shoulder, gripping his shirt to hold him firmly in place. Close to her.
"i would love it,â jake corrected once he felt the utmost necessity to. when they were together, her messiness had the tendency to irk him. however, when they split--it was another detail he found himself strangely missing.
while their lips separated as she adjusted herself, his eyes opened momentarily to look at her, a smile on his face. he moved his hand from her face while she made these changes, and in a way encouraged movement accordingly. his palm found its way back to her thigh, his fingers extending to hold her at the back of her knee rather tightly. it wasnât long before their lips reconnected. the second time around, he went in a bit hungrier. perhaps it was the fact that now he knew that the feeling was mutual, that he wasnât imagining things. sure, the way she spoke to him over text could have easily been a confirmation. but physical intimacy did a much, much better job.Â
the hand at her back moved down, and then back up--this time travelling under her shirt. his finger tips moved along her skin slowly. she was warm, soft. he felt as if he could hold her here on him for the rest of his life, and be totally content with that. his hand stayed pressed against her skin, but it was rather indecisive in nature. that--or it simply could not keep up with his brain. because after a few moments of holding her, his hand moved down once more, out of her shirt only to begin to pull it up--almost as if he was testing the waters, seeing if this was where this was going.

ODESSAâ
Odessa playfully swatted at him, laughing softly. âMy place is clean. Itâs just lived in. I should probably dust though, but in my defense, I was in a hurry,â she interjected, before her eyes lit up at the thought of a painting reminding him of herâ and he had to walk past it every day, if it was right at the entrance. âWhatâs the painting of?â she asked, curious to know what about the painting made him think of her whenever he looked at it. âAre you talking about your place here, or in New York needing some homely touches?â She was glad he liked her place so muchâ it was small, and she had far too many things, too many trinkets and plants, a couple of vases of fresh flowers from Birds Nâ Bees, and probably too many throw pillows. But it was her home, and now he was in it. She liked how he looked sitting on her couch.Â
Pressing her thighs together as he squeezed her again, she exhaled loudlyâ it was starting to get embarrassing. She forced herself to take another sip of her whiskey, trying to hide the thrill she got every time he directed a âbabyâ at her. She leaned over, setting her own glass down beside his before moving closer towards him. She reached out and began fiddling with a button on his shirt. âWhat else do you have up your sleeve?â she asked, gaze lingering on his, a tiny smirk pulling at her lips as she tugged at his collar.Â
âa hurry, hm? i thought i wasnât quick enough.â jake teased. âitâs a diamond canvas with a kaleidoscope type pattern, the shapes are butterflies and butterfly wings. something about the colors in it always felt like you had a hand in making it.â now that he was saying it out loud, it made him wonder if he ever really âmoved onâ like he said he did. surely this wasnât the kind of talk that came from the lips of someone who wasnât stuck on someone. âboth.â he answered. "and by homely touches, i mean you.â he didnât seem to hesitate. no matter what he did to his new york home--or any home for that matter. a piece always seemed to be hauntingly missing. settling on the fact that he was never home, so it didnât matter did the job as far as his thinking went. but it never entirely satisfied him. for a while, satisfaction felt impossible. now it felt a little more in reach. like it was looking him in the eyes, moving a gentle hand along his jawline. crazy how that worked.
heâd be a liar if he said he didnât notice her tighten up. it was in her muscles, he felt that. and her lungs, he heard that. his reaction was a smile, one that was quite self-satisfied in nature. he loved driving her crazy, at least when it was intentional. jake leaned in closer, his hand moving up from her thigh to the small of her back. his palm never broke contact as it traveled lightly over the clothes that kept him from touching her skin directly. once his hand was pressed firmly against her back, he encouraged closeness. at this point, his face was quite close to hers. far enough away to make out clear features, but close enough for it to feel personal. his dark brown eyes were focused on her lips, and aside from the apparent desire that existed within the chocolate orbs--there was a look of thought, consideration.Â
the cogs were turning. the tug at his collar ultimately caused him to act. what little distance existed between their faces was closed with one final movement on his part. he pressed his lips into hers. his other hand moved caught up with what was happening in due time, his fingers behind her ear and his thumb against her cheek.
ODESSAâ
She knew he was excitedâ itâd been clear through text, but hearing him say it, it thrilled her. She watched as he took a sip and followed suit.ââIf I was at your place in New York, then. Except if I found Three Week Girlâs undergarmentsâ or any girlâs underwear for that matter, I would not be happy. âYouâre right though, I would probably hate it. Because hotels are usually a place you stay at temporarily. When youâre on vacation.â Odessa shrugged, still watching Jake as he came to sit beside her; she inhaled deeply as his hand came to rest on her thigh, swallowing hard. âMhm. I am,â she murmured as he moved towards her; she mirrored him, slowly leaning towards him. She could barely concentrate as he caressed her thigh; she glanced down, silently praying that heâd continue further. She reached out, running her thumb along his jaw, trying to steady her breathing. âI meanâ what didnât?â she replied with a quiet laugh. âBut what really broke my resolve was being called âbabyâ. It was hot.â She gently scratched against his stubbly chin.Â
"youâd like my place in new york,â jake started, âitâs clean, first of all.â he insisted, jokingly but also not. âitâs in brooklyn. has lots of natural light. and thereâs this... damien hirst painting right when you walk in--it reminds me of you.â the piece had been a gift, but it obtained itâs place in the foyer because of the simple fact that it made him think of odessa--as cheesy as that was. âit could... use some homely touches but itâs not completely bad.â heâd definitely lived in smaller, worse places. thatâs for sure. âbut itâs not this.â he said, speaking about the space they were sharing. being here with her now really made him realize that heâd been living very, very poorly these last few years. he tilted his head up as she placed her hand against his skin. and in that moment, he felt himself lean into her palm. he squeezed on her thigh, just a bit tighter. a reminder that he was there. he extended the hand that held his glass, to place it on the coffee table. âi have more up my sleeve, baby.â his eyes moved down to her lips, focusing on them quite clearly before moving back up to her gaze.
ODESSAâ
âI do know that⊠itâs really just my overactive imagination that just has to imagine the absolute worst in every situation,â she murmured, crinkling her nose at herself. âBesides, I was mostly teasing, yâknow? Like it was definitely a thought I had about fifteen minutes into waiting for you, but you may be a lot of things, but youâre not a cruel person. And you were so excited to come over. My head is just kind of an asshole sometimes, and I canât help but think the worst.â Odessa took a small sip of her drink, watching as he stepped closerâ not quite close enough, but better. âItâs very endearing,â she agreed with a tiny smile pulling at her lips. âI donât blame you though. Youâve never been here. Iâm sure if I was over at your place, Iâd be doing the same. Digging into your couch for change, going through your phone messages, yâknowâ normal things to do when visiting your exâs home.â Shooting him a grin, she brushed against him as she moved to take a seat on the couch, gesturing for him to join her. âI did clean for you, yes. It wasnât too bad, thankfullyâ and youâd probably have a better chance of finding a bra in hereâ all my stuffed animals are currently hiding in my closet. I tend to take off my bra just about as soon as I get home, just throw it wherever.â She crossed her legs as she took another sip. âThe energy? âYou mean, am I still turned on after finding out you were actually paying attention when I put on my stupid guilty pleasure show?â she laughed, tucking her curly hair behind her ear. âBecause⊠I mean, yeah. Though I have to admit that itâs not the only thing that wound me up.â She leaned against her arm, watching him.Â
âyes. i was excited. still am excited. focus on that, cause thatâs the truth.â he felt a bit like a motivational speaker whilst he drilled this into her, but it needed to be said. and once he was done, he brought the glass in his palm up to his lips and took a sip. âyou wouldnât like where iâm living. like. at all. nothing there is mine. itâs a very small step up from a hotel room, honestly. but it gets the job done.â he never asked for much as far as his living arrangements went--he was extraordinarily low maintenance as far as that department went. homeliness was nice, but it was difficult to get to that point when a massive chunk of his personal belongings were nearly three thousand miles away. he eased himself down and back into the couch, the comfort of it all surrounding him as he did so. he could have easily settled just fine in where he had chosen to sit, but before getting too comfortable he moved himself a tad bit closer to odessa, his free hand on her thigh. âit sounds like youâre living the dream.â he chuckled. once she began to speak of guilty pleasures and being wound up, he felt himself lean towards her ever... so... slightly. his thumb moved back and forth rhythmically against her thigh as his hand moved down a touch. he was all about subtle movements. âyeah?â you could practically hear the smile as he spoke. âwhy donât you share with the class? what wound you up, odessa bloom?â
ODESSAâ
âThe proofâs in the texts,â Odessa replied with a roll of her eyes, shaking her head as she tried not to smile. âIâd probably never be able to look you in the eye again if you hadnât come. And Iâd be really, really mad at you again.â She wouldâve been absolutely livid. And hurt. Just the thought of it made her anxious, but she shook off the feelingâ there was no point in getting all worked up over nothing, when he was there nowâŠ. looking as good as ever. She peeked at him while she moved around the kitchen, grabbing a couple of glasses and finding the bottle of whiskey she had hidden away in the cupboard, pouring them both a generous serving of the amber liquid. âYouâre a snoop,â she commented as she took the glasses and walked back into the living room, holding one glass out to him. âFind anything embarrassing? I cleaned, but I mightâve missed something in my hurry,â she admitted with a laugh.Â
"iâd be mad at me too,â he some-what somberly agreed, falling silent not long after as he processed why exactly she had thought that about him. he knew, at least somewhat, that he was capable of nasty things. but to catch a glimpse of what someone he cared deeply for thought of him at his worst did sting a little. but that was the nature of their relationship as it existed now. theyâd have to get through the sting. âiâd never do that to you. i hope you know that.â he ultimately decided on comforting her, reassuring her. he looked to her while he said this, whether or not she caught his gaze didnât matter. he had a feeling it was present enough to be felt. âi think iâm... endearingly curious.â jacob replied simply, that same lopsided smile making a reappearance. he had a feeling it would quite a few times tonight. he took the glass and took a step or two to close a portion of the space between them. âdid you clean for me?â he raised a single eyebrow. âthatâs sweet,â it was hard to tell whether his tone was genuine, or teasing. ânothing yet... but i do feel like if i look hard enough iâll find a stuffed animal. or a bra. iâm still trying to decide where the energyâs at.â
odessabloomâ:
ââImpressive, sure, but you said and I quote, âIâll be there in twentyâ,â she argued, pursing her lips to keep from smiling up at Jake as he brushed his thumb against her skin before pushing past into her apartment. âI was starting to think the worstâ like youâd gotten into an accident, and it would be all my fault because I told you to come overâ or even worse, that you were standing me up.â Shutting the door behind her and leaning against it, she watched as he took in her place, and gave a small shrug, flushing again under his gaze. She could easily exude confidence in text, but it was a whole other thing, to have him looking at her, not five feet away, and pretend it didnât make her heart race. âItâs not fancy or anything, but itâs home. âDo you want something to drink?â she asked, pushing from the door and making her way into the kitchen to grab herself a glass of water, needing to keep her hands busy otherwise sheâd just fidget nervously. It was weird having him in her spaceâ and weird being around him again in general. Not in a bad way. Itâd just been a really long time since she was so close to him, not counting their little fight in public. âWater? A beer? Something stronger? Iâm pretty sure I have a bottle of whiskey around here somewhereâŠâ
"prove that i said that,â jake challenged for no real reason aside from his general partialness towards being difficult. âcould you imagine all that build up, all that anticipation... all for me not to come? i could never.â and that was the truth. as far as commitments went, he was good at keeping them. perhaps annoyingly so in some cases. âiâd love a drink.â he smiled warmly, eyes fixed on her even when she was no longer facing him. he felt himself quietly taking in her figure before turning away himself, and continuing the nosey business examining the finer details of the room he stood in. he took to framed pictures, adjusting them at an angle for him to better see--and then smiling. âwaterâs a safe choice,â he started, âbut iâll take a shot--or several--of whiskey if youâre planning on keeping me for the night.â he said as he set down the frame he held in his palm. he looked to her for a reaction, for itâd make it easier for him to understand how to navigate this scenario. however, he knew deep down that regardless of how she responded, he wouldnât quite let up with the charming... the confidence. he never had an issue with channeling that kind of energy.
MOLLYâ
âWell, no.â Molly was more focused on making sure her cut didnât ruin her white blouse âit was one of her favorites. âIâve never exactly had a reason to feel how soft your hands are.â She continued to put pressure on the slight wound. Sheâd definitely had worse in her time as a florist. âThank you, though. Itâs really not your fault. I should have been paying more attention. âAre they for anyone special?â
"iâd shake your hand, but youâre bleeding.â jake replied, though he hardly needed to let her know about the crimson coming from her finger. she was obviously aware--and had been aware. if she hadnât been, this conversation wouldnât have been happening. âyeah--sheâs... real special. but i donât want to scare her away. i might be jumping the gun.â by then, jake had felt overwhelmed with the uncomfortable feeling of looking utterly useless, so in that moment he leaned to the side to rip another sheet of paper towel to replace the bloodied one she was still pressing to her finger. he held out the sheet for her to take.
ODESSA
ââThat was not twenty minutes, Jacob,â was the first thing Odessa said when she pulled open the door; her mouth going dry as soon as she she laid eyes on him. How was it possible that he looked even better than he had when theyâd had their fight in front of his intern? It wasnât fair. She leaned against the door frame, smiling shyly up at him. âIt was at least twenty-five. Were you driving below the speed limit or something? Because thatâs just as much against the law as driving over it.âÂ
@j-katz
the moment the door creaked open, jake sent a lopsided smile odessaâs way. he was comfortable where he stood, his forearm resting against the door frame casually and confidently. soon enough, he easily pushed himself away from the frame to stand on his own. âi all the way over at the ass end of richmond, little lady. thatâs at least thirty minutes away. i think twenty five minutes is impressive, honestly.â he started, naturally explaining himself in more detail than anyone ever really asked for. with that, he began to move into the door frame, a hand reaching up to rub her cheek with a gentle thumb before pulling the hand in after him into her apartment.  âi like it,â he said, his eyes scanning the place before ultimately resting on her. âitâs cute. cozy.âÂ
