A few blocks from Twitter’s fancy corporate headquarters, a wheelchair-bound woman sleeps every night on the sidewalk. She is hardly alone.

This is San Francisco’s Tenderloin neighborhood, a focal point for the city’s gentrification struggles. It is home to over 6,000 homeless people, who until recently had access to only one working shower head, which was not handicap accessible. Now, a group of passionate people in the Bay Area is using old MUNI buses to bring bathing facilities to this underserved population.

Latest installation by Montreal-based media and entertainment studio Moment Factory invites visitors to explore the illuminated paths of an enchanted forest in Québec, Canada. Foresta Lumina, a 2 km long trail, meanders through the Parc de la Gorge de Coaticook full of colorful light installations, visual projections and chilling sound effects.

According to the creative studio, Foresta Lumina strives to reveal park’s natural beauties and mysteries. Along the nocturnal stroll through the forest, visitors are acquainted with the region’s fictitious heritage and forest mythology: fairies, spirits and other bewitched mythical creatures. “It’s all about goosebumps,” says Gabriel Pontbriand of Moment Factory.

Kids in immigration detention centres - recordings from children imprisoned in Australia, Greece, South Africa and the USA for not having the right documentation. They're aged between 7-16.

Syria: Journalist’s Execution a War Crime

The apparent execution of the freelance journalist James Foley on August 19, 2014 in Syria by the Islamic State would be a war crime if confirmed. Groups detaining journalists should immediately and unconditionally release them. The Islamic State, formerly known as the Islamic State in Iraq and Sham (ISIS), released a video of Foley’s purported execution. The group announced that it also is holding the US citizen journalist Steven Sotloff and that his fate depends on future US policy measures against the extremist group. Deliberate murder of civilians and hostage taking during an armed conflict are war crimes.
