The Way Things Go ll SEONGHYEON X BLACK! READER
hey guys! this is my first time posting smth on tumblr, im usually more of a wattpad(@junnie) girl but i wanted to try this out!
this will be a continuous(hopefully) series about seonghyeon from CORTIS! iâve been like super obsessed with them for like the past couple months, and they just won roty and im like so proudđ„čđ„č
anyway i hope u enjoy my delusions!!
_________
today was going to be such a busy day, you had a concert to go to, had to babysit before it, and had to go shopping for an outfit for the concert.
why would i do this to myself? great question me, ohk so there was this new kpop group that had just debuted around a month or two ago.
and you fell for them, HARD. specifically this one guy, seonghyeon.Â
you had discovered them through tiktok, it was their pre debut era and people had no idea what their names were or what they would release.
just that they were a new boy group under HYBE that could potentially be just as big as BTS or even bigger.
you were just a curious girl, still in highschool you quite literally had nothing else to do. no sports, no extracurricular other than work.Â
so you wanted, no needed something to keep you occupied and stable before you lost your mind.
thatâs where CORTIS came in, there debut song âGO!â had your head bopping from left to right! and you couldnât get it out of your head for weeks on end.
and then everything else kept pouring in, from a international and black kpop stan people were quite toxic about this group.
but did that ever stop you from enjoying music and not giving a damn about what other people said? no.
you watched all of their youtube videos, scanned through their lives, and had been saving up to go to their concert tonight.Â
but before that you had some challenges to overcome, babysitting, shopping, and getting dressed.
the concert wasnât supposed to start until 9 pm, and it was currently 4 am. only God knows why your up so early.
you rubbed your eyelids to keep yourself from falling back asleep, as you grabbed your phone from you nightstand.
you opened all social media apps and sent streaks for the day, and turned your phone off.Â
it was time to get ready for the chaotic day you had.Â
so you got up out of bed and tidied up your room to the best of your abilities.Â
rearranging things so it could look like you were never here. at the age of 17 you lived in an apartment with your older brother.
hes a thriving 28 year old with a wife and a kid. and his adorable little sister living with him. so he had no room to complain about anything!
he was the only constant thing in your life. your parents had sadly died when you were 11 in a plane crash. and ever since you lived with your brother.
the two of you were close and became even closer since the incident. he was your number one supporter through everything in life, and you were his.
fortunately for you, he became a parent at 21 years old. making you a part time babysitter and a full time aunt.Â
he had a daughter, and she was the cutest thing in earth. she was only 7 but she was incredibly smart unlike her father.Â
you smiled at the thought of your niece, you loved her like she was your own and you would continue to do so until the day you died.
even though she was a handful at times, you were always there to help her mom and dad out by babysitting.Â
especially on the weekends when the two would want to have date night.
so you went into your bathroom and freshened up, showering and taking care of your skin. you came out in a robe and decided to wear a cute matching pj set that you had recently got from victoria secret.Â
you slipped into your pajamas and tied the robe a little tighter, the cool air from the hallway brushing your legs as you stepped out. first mission of the day: coffee. your mortal weakness.
you padded into the kitchen, making sure to be extra quiet since your brother, sister-in-law, and your niece were all still asleep. the coffee machine beepedâloudly, rudelyâand you winced.
the smell hit you instantly, giving you fake confidence.
âtodayâs gonna eat me alive,â you muttered while blowing on the mug, âbut at least iâll be caffeinated.â
you scrolled through tiktok as you drank, watching edits of cortis that you had probably seen a million times already. and then one of seonghyeon popped upâhim smiling that stupid cute smile, the soft blush on his cheeks from laughing too hard during their debut showcase.
you almost dropped your coffee.
âugh⊠why is he like that.â
you didnât even know him, technically. but something about him always felt weirdly⊠familiar? comforting? like he was the type of person you could just exist quietly next to without overthinking.
you shook the thought off.
you had babysitting at 7, shopping around noon, and then the concert.
daydreaming about an idol youâd never meet wasnât going to make the schedule easier.
after finishing your coffee and cleaning up, you packed your babysitting bag with snacks, a coloring book, and your nieceâs favorite stuffed tigerâbecause she would absolutely start war if she woke up and couldnât find him.
you checked the clock again.
4:56 am.
you still had time before you needed to leave. so you grabbed the novel youâd been reading for english classâa romance you pretended to hate but secretly lovedâand headed downstairs to the apartment complexâs shared mini-library.
it was quiet. of course it was. who else would be awake at almost 5 am besides insomniacs, parents, and stressed highschoolers like you?
you walked in, rubbing your eye, flipping to where you left off. you sat in your favorite corner seat, tucked by the window where the early sunrise made everything look slightly magical.
a soft thump startled you.
you looked up.
someone had also entered.
a boy.
hoodie, sweats, messy hair like heâd lost a fight with his pillow. he looked your ageâmaybe a little olderâand he carried a stack of books so high you were convinced he was either a genius or a chronic overachiever.
he glanced at you for a second.
you know, a normal human glance.
but something about himâŠ
his jawline? his eyes? the way his hair fell into his face?
your heart skipped.
weirdly.
annoyingly.
he walked past your table, mumbling a soft âsorryâ when he nearly bumped your chair. his voice was deeper than you expected, warm at the edges.
you nodded back awkwardly.
âyouâre good.â
smooth. very smooth.
you went back to your book, but then a second laterâ
thud.
a book slipped from the top of his pile and hit the floor near your foot.
you picked it up and handed it to him.
âuhh⊠you dropped this.â
he laughed, scratching the back of his neck. âyeah⊠i tend to forget gravity exists at this hour.â
you snorted before you could stop yourself. great. amazing. embarrassing.
the boy grinned, like heâd found your reaction funny instead of cringe.
âiâve seen you here before, right?â
you blinked.
âhave you?â
âyeah,â he said casually, sliding the books onto a table, âyou always sit in that corner. with the window light. same hoodie, too.â
you looked down. it was your same comfort hoodie. you suddenly felt your soul leave your body.
âiâ i didnât think people noticed me.â
âi notice a lot of things,â he said, shrugging. âsorry if that sounded creepy. i swear iâm normal. mostly.â
you laughed under your breath.
âyouâre fine. iâm here at 5 am, i canât judge anyone.â
he smiled againâsmall, soft, almost shy.
then he pulled out a chair at your table.
âmind if i sit with you?â
you hesitated, then nodded.
âsure.â
and somehow the silence between you wasnât awkward.
not heavy.
just⊠calm.
you read.
he scribbled in a notebook.
you occasionally glanced up at him when he wasnât looking.
and sometimes he glanced at you when you werenât looking.
at some point, you joked about your english assignment, and he joked back that he failed a poetry quiz once and almost cried.
you laughed so loud the librarian from the upstairs floor literally shushed you.
time slipped by in the gentlest way possible.
and then your phone buzzed.
babysitting time.
you stood up quickly.
âuhâi gotta go. but⊠i see you around here sometimes so, maybeâŠâ
he tilted his head, smiling like the words were obvious.
âyouâll definitely see me again.â
your stomach flipped.
âright. yeah. okay.â
you grabbed your bag.
âbye!â
you rushed out before you could embarrass yourself further.
you didnât even process the whole interaction until you reached the elevator.
you pulled out your phone, trying to calm down, and thatâs when you realizedâ
you never asked for his name.
he never asked for yours.
but the whole thing feltâŠ
easy.
natural.
like becoming friends with a stranger at 5 am in a quiet library was completely normal.
your heart was still racing. not in a romantic way (you told yourself), just in a confused way.
you stepped into the elevator, leaned against the wall, and whispered to yourself:
ââŠwait what?â
