Big things coming from @revolver_cares and yours truly. 10/29/2016...
In French we don’t say “Marry me,” we say ted cruz est le tueur du zodiaque which roughly translates to “Let us never separate” and I think that’s truly beautiful
We’re sending an issue of The Melancholy Times to the NRA’s Wayne LaPierre every day until the release of Melancholy Accidents by Peter Manseau.
Day #2
looking 2 couch hop around downtown toronto
Hi all,
feels weird doing this but im currently in not a good situation at my current residence with my family and will probably be living in a shelter by the end of the week. was hoping to find any cool, kind people out here that would let me crash on their couch. just for one night is fine, i plan on sort of moving around until my application for financial aid comes in. i am a quiet person and can keep to myself, but also i mean i love hanging out and getting to know people.
thanks for reading! and if you feel like you can trust me please send me an email via [email protected]
i would be so grateful and indebted to you
-Alex
[Sunset Riders is an] adaptation of a Super Nintendo game written as an experimental acid Western. Capcom meets Cormac. I’m already a huge fan of LSD Western’s, one of my fave movies is Renegade, a metaphysical tale of death in the desert, based on a comic by sci-fi master Moebius, where the climax has two cowboys ingesting ayahuasca and seeing who survives the trip. All of this in lieu of pistols at noon. In contrast, this book delivers on both the tripping and the gunplay. I didn’t know I could be so happy. Sunset Riders is like Carlos Castenada wrote The Dark Tower 1: The Gunslinger in stead of a 19 year old Stephen King. But neither of them wrote Sunset Riders. My buddy Jesse did, and I could not be more proud. He also just married one of my best friends. I am very pleased with the whole situation.
Sam Smith’s year in reading, with the first-ever mention of Sunset Riders on a year-end list!!
some of the hardest work in writing is not crafting the fine sentence, but getting characters to walk across rooms.

Asthma
Sometimes you have to really fuck yourself up to love yourself.
I got drunk with Barry Hannah in Oxford.
VCR
The VCR ate my Prince and the Revolution Live VHS, so now I eat the VCR, a little more each day, keeping it alive so that it can watch and feel everything, the way I can no longer watch and feel the Prince concert.
I wrote about what I’ve been reading lately for The Collapsar (which was Chelsea Girls by Eileen Myles & The Things They Carried by Tim O’Brien)
The LEGO Movie was my favorite movie of 2014, but it strikes me that the main character was male, because I feel like in our current culture, he HAD to be. The whole point of Emmett is that he’s the most boring average person in the world. It’s impossible to imagine a female character playing that role, because according to our pop culture, if she’s female she’s already SOMEthing, because she’s not male. The baseline is male. The average person is male. You can see this all over but it’s weirdly prevalent in children’s entertainment. Why are almost all of the muppets dudes, except for Miss Piggy, who’s a parody of femininity? Why do all of the Despicable Me minions, genderless blobs, have boy names? I love the story (which I read on Wikipedia) that when the director of The Brave Little Toaster cast a woman to play the toaster, one of the guys on the crew was so mad he stormed out of the room. Because he thought the toaster was a man. A TOASTER. The character is a toaster. I try to think about that when writing new characters— is there anything inherently gendered about what this character is doing? Or is it a toaster?
Bojack Horseman creator Raphael Bob-Waksberg commenting on how weird gendered defaults in entertainment are, and why we should think twice about them. Excerpted from this longer original post. (via 360degreesasthecrowflies)
going to think about this every time I start any new fiction from now on
