Writing dialogue for Dirk is like: Italics, exclamation marks! Maybe just getting a little distracted by… what was I saying? Oh, yes! Long, winding, traversing sentences full of fancy word play and fun, suggestive intonations with an incredible amount of commas ending in a virtual eyebrow raise that make you think you’d run out of breath if you had to read it out loud, and- should there even be emphasis there? Who knows, maybe not, but gosh isn’t it fun though? 

Writing dialogue for Todd is like: Hyphens- or, maybe commas? Or… ellipses work too when you just can’t… fuck why can’t you ever quite find the right kind of- no. You know what? Screw it. Short sentences are better anyway. Who needs fancy language to get the point across? Swearing works just as well, and! And it makes people think you care less! Air quotes are good for ‘bullshit’ and, then there’s the fucking… ugh. That’s not- Never mind. It doesn’t matter. There’s no point trying to explain it anyway.
