Literally no one who follows me is going to know what this means, but HBomberguy, a Youtuber known for Video Essays about pop culture and gaming made a promise that he would live stream himself playing Donkey Kong 64, in its entirety (including picking up every single banana) and all money would go to a UK charity for trans youth (Mermaids) and his initial goal was $3,000 and now it’s been 26 hours into the stream and he’s already over $51k. so the national lottery here in the uk donates a bit of their money to a few designated charities, so basically every time you buy a lottery ticket some of that £2 or £3 goes towards charity. mermaids just so happens to be one of those charities and of course, a lot of people are not happy about that. more on that later

for those who don’t know already mermaids are a brilliant bunch. it was founded by a woman with a trans daughter (she made a ted talk about it here) and it helps trans kids who are looking to transition, trans kids who have unsupportive parents or may have even been kicked out, and has resources for the parents of trans kids and places like schools on how they can support a trans student/worker

enter graham linehan. he wrote a few shows like father ted and the it crowd. he’s also notorious for being incredibly transphobic and never shutting up about his hatred for trans people on his twitter.

so, what did he do? well, with his army of mumsnet dwellers, he got them all to spam the lottery with about a fuckton of emails telling them to stop funding Mermaids. not because they want them to think of the children, but rather they want them to stop thinking about the children. and in all their can-i-speak-to-the-manager-hair glory, they got the lottery to reconsider their grant.

mr hbomberguy (you may know him as the man behind hits such as Sherlock Is Garbage (and here’s why), and Fallout 3 Is Garbage (and here’s why)) sees this, thinks “graham what the everliving fuck” and also thinks “oh yeah i never finished donkey kong 64” which is where we are now.

so his goal is to 101% donkey kong 64. which, to my knowledge, takes around 33-36 hours to do. at the time of writing this he has had one sleep break and has just started another

may i also note the 10k goal was to erase graham linehan from existence

MY MOM HAS CANCER. I’M BEGGING FOR HELP

Hello everyone, my name is Ewa, I’m from Poland. My mom was diagnosed with CERVICAL CANCER stage 3B G2 back in June (SQUAMUS CELL CARCINOMA G2; Carcinoma planoepitheliale G2, invasio carcinomatosa vasorum). Since then she had only FIVE RADIATIONS (20 Gy in total) and that’s all - NO PLANS FOR CHEMO OR SURGERY. She may receive a few more radiations next year only if she’s still alive til that time and there’s an extensive bleeding. Otherwise no.

Her health problems began in February, since then she had JJ tubes put in both ureters which later were replaced with nephrostomy tubes in both kidneys. She had a massive Enterococcus faecium infection treated with Vancomycin. Lately she had another massive infection when docs put a nephrostomy tube in her left kidney. It was treated with Linezolid.

SHE DOESN’T EAT ANYMORE, SHE CAN’T GET UP, SHE CAN’T TAKE A SHOWER, SHE CAN’T DO ANYTHING ANYMORE.

Her oncologist didn’t give her a referral to a hospice nor a palliative care specialist. I had to beg my mom’s GP to receive them. We were left alone. We don’t have any family, there’s only she and I. I’m disabled person with several chronic conditions. I have to have a knee surgery but I can’t go to a hospital right now, I have to be with my mom all the time and take care of her.

I’M BEGGING FOR HELP TO BUY A WHEELCHAIR, ANTI PRESSURE ULCERS MATTRESS, NUTRICIA DRINKS, URINE COLLECTION BAGS, ANTIBIOTICS AND PROBIOTICS IF NEEDED, SUPPLEMENTS LIKE POTASSIUM, CRP HOME TESTS AND CBD OIL.

I can’t afford all that due to a very small income.

Please, I’m begging you, help me and my mom. I can provide all medical documents if requested but I have them only in Polish.

I’m absolutely devastated for my good friend Eve and her Mother.  Women in Poland face struggles every day and the health system does not provide for people like it should. Not all people have a comfortable life with good health care systems and support with pain management. Eve has her own health struggles to contend with also.

Eve has been with the community for years now and her Failure Family has been a great source of laughs for me, and many of you I know.  Never one to cause drama, a kind, intelligent and caring person, one we need more of!  Eve has been through a lot over the past couple of years, help her out if you can, please.
