Div Server & Back to Work
Hey! I’m back after a pretty long hiatus! And there’s been some changes.
First of all: All reblogs have been moved to jackieswitchyreblogs. This is mostly so I can keep track of everything I’ve made. That being said, all my old posts have been pushed towards the top and a lot of them were made before I’ve found some new things about my path. So take them with a grain of salt.
Secondly: I’ve made a new discord server, for learning div. It’ll be pretty organized, with various lessons at different times. I’ll reblog with the link!
Some of you might know that I had an older div server… that didn’t work out too well. I’ve been working on some things and this time I have much more of a game plan than before. So here’s hoping!

Storing Cards
I’m sure there are way too many posts all about how you are supposed to store oracle, tarot, or various other kinds of cards. Some might tell you to keep them in a special box with some crystals or some other equally “witchy” method, and hey; if that works for you, that’s awesome! Keep doing that!
For me, any storing method has seemed a bit too far removed. When I think about Tarot (I’ll just use this term in general for all types of cards) decks, I picture them as blank journals that slowly get filled with experience and information. When a deck is first made, it is ready to be filled with energy and knowledge. As the deck is used over and over it begins to learn the ways of the world, it learns to recognize patterns, just as you -- the reader -- do.
When I’m on a reading spree, I will keep all decks out all of the time. They sit on my desk even while I’m doing homework or something decidedly having nothing to do with divination, but I want to let them see the world. I also let the decks intermingle at times; when I do put them away, I keep them all in a drawer, held only by the bottoms of their boxes.
This goes against what a lot of people think about cards, but it feels more right to me to let the cards learn than to keep them purely charged.
Be Safe!
I have a few oil mixes coming up in the queue, and just wanted to remind everyone that you should always use a carrier oil (not water) if applying to the skin!
Critical Thinking in Spirituality 3
Although the solitary life of a hermit is a popular and tempting motif, this is not necessarily a healthy spiritual habit to maintain.
My third tip for applying critical thinking in your spirituality is… don’t let yourself become a spiritual shut-in.
Embrace, rather than shun, opposing beliefs and ideas! Other people, especially when they come from different backgrounds and schools of thought, can help keep you in check. They can call you out on your crap and point out flaws in your thinking.
One such flaw is that your way of being / thinking / believing / doing is the only way. Like I mentioned in the first part of this series, nobody can prove spiritual experiences. Nobody can prove that their religion is the only True™️ religion.
Closing yourself off or surrounding yourself with only people who agree with you is never a good thing. It keeps you from being exposed to new ways of experiencing the world.
This is not exclusive to religion, of course.
If you only socialize with people who look, act, and think like you do, you’re not going to be a very open-minded or compassionate person.
I suggest taking in different opinions in news, politics, art… Really, all aspects of your life can benefit from this.
(Also: yes, I know that it is important to take time to yourself, as well as enjoy the company of like-minded folks. That’s perfectly fine, and not really what I’m addressing in this post.)
Critical Thinking in Spirituality 2
Another way you can apply critical thinking in your spirituality is to recognize logical fallacies, in your thinking as well as others’. There are so many different errors in thinking that we all fall victim to, so I’m not going to cover them all here. Instead, I will talk about five common logical fallacies that show up in spiritual circles.
(If you are interested in a really comprehensive guide, I highly recommend “The Art of Thinking Clearly” by Rolf Dobelli.)
1- Authority bias. Basically, this is the false idea that those in positions of power are inherently superior or more trustworthy than others. This can include the pope, pastors, gods, or even popular (spiritual) bloggers.
Even worse, this fallacy is often based in fear. If you are scared of rejection or retribution from authority, you are likely not thinking clearly.
Our beliefs and opinions can be greatly influenced by authorities, often for the worse.
2- Social proof. Basically, the idea that, the more people believe something, the more correct it is. This can also be called mob mentality, hive mind, groupthink, or herd instinct. We can be pressured into conforming by this fallacy.
To avoid this incorrect thinking, you should ask yourself, “Why do I say/do/think this? How much am I being influenced by social thinking?”
Funnily enough, the opposite of this bias (which I like to call individualist syndrome) is also a problem.
Ask yourself if you are doing or thinking something just to rebel against the norms.
3- Confirmation bias. (from “The Art of Thinking Clearly”) “is the tendency to interpret new information so that it becomes compatible with our existing theories, beliefs, and convictions. In other words, we filter out any new information that contradicts our existing views.”
Damn, I love that book.
An example of this bias is… wearing your lucky socks! You put on your lucky socks and somehow have a great day. Is it really the socks?– or do you think that you are going to have a good day because of your lucky socks, and then you interpret everything that happens to you in a more positive way because of that thinking? (also note that this is closely related to the placebo effect)
An easy way to avoid falling victim to this logical fallacy is to try to look at things objectively, and look at the facts instead of automatically trusting your thoughts.
4- Just-World Logical Fallacy. The false idea that everyone gets what they deserve, that good things happen to good people, and that bad things that happen are a result of your transgressions against a supernatural force.
This is painfully untrue. The world is not fair. Bad things happen to good people, good things happen to bad people, and there’s a whole lot of neutral.
There is no balancing force that ensures all good actions are rewarded and all bad actions are punished. That’s just not how the world works.
5- In-group out-group bias is a very dangerous logical fallacy. Seeing yourself as being part of a tightly-knit group and seeing other people as Outsiders™️ is a harmful way of thinking, and it leads to discrimination, as well as a lot of other problems.
Avoid this by examining your beliefs and thoughts to see if they are based in fact.
There are many logical fallacies that we can be influenced by, especially in spiritual communities. By asking yourself the right questions and looking at things critically, most of them can be warded off.
Holiday Magic!
Most people, whether you celebrate Christmas or not, have family parties and time off around this time of year. That means that you see a lot of people that you don’t, necessarily, like. While some people may see that as a problem, I doubt I’m the only witch to see that as an opportunity, especially in cases where the event is at your house or you are cooking food that you are going to bring. That being said, I’m not even talking about anything negative (necessarily; though, yeah, that’s definitely a thing and absolutely no judgement) but rather what you can do to help improve everyone’s positivity and mood. Of course, you can use these little suggestions any time at all, but I feel like they’re most important in light of these holidays. This got pretty long, so more under the cut!
Ideas For a Oracle Deck
Today I woke up with the idea of an Oracle deck based in Language. Each card would be a poem in a different language, with a keyword to describe the mood. This is all well and great, but there are over 100 languages, and I feel like that’s a lot of cards for one deck; do any of you have ideas about what types of languages would work best?
IDK how one would pull this off but this is a beautiful idea!!! (I vote for Irish, but I’m biased hehe.)
You could choose a family of languages and go from there? Maybe a card per dialect, or culture?
That’s actually an amazing idea?
Just for English alone, there’s probably dozens of dialects – everything from RP to AAVE to Cockney to Hoi Toider, even Scots, on the outside edge. All very different-feeling, with very different histories.
As a language nerd, I LOVE this concept
^^ I definately am too!

I just wanted to say WELCOME BACK! I MISSED YOU! Hugs and Kisses Always 💜
Hello! Thank you so much for the kind words! I hope to be more active on this and my tarot blog for a while!
I'm just getting into witchcraft and stumbled upon your blog. I'm glad I did, because you seem to post/reblog a lot of beginner tips! I live in a very rural area with no witches (that I know of), so it's nice to see that there are quite a few decent blogs with the info I need to get started. So far I'm really digging yours!
I’m not sure how long ago you sent this--I’ve been settling in to a new part of my life, and been very busy--but I’m glad that I was able to help! Please let me know if you have any questions, and I should be a lot more active from now on! I hope you have a wonderful day and week!
I will find what I’ve lost
I regain energy quickly.
