UOW’s 2015 Open Day App - Launching Soon

Excited to be managing the development of our second Open Day App this year. After the success of the 2014 app, with over 2,000 downloads, we're working with our app partner AppMajik to launch our improved 2015 app with extra features including improved session planning and ‘best of’ #ThisIsUOW content feed.

Launching UOW’s new brand hashtag.

Really excited to have launched the UOW’s new brand hashtag earlier this semester.

The #ThisIsUOW hashtag is our way to stand out. With at least seven institutions across the world using the acronym ‘UOW’, I identified a need to differentiate. We know our students love UOW and we know they share great content that showcases their experiences here. The hashtag will give our audience one central device to organise their experiences and share it with the world.

Activation for this long running campaign involved a large 6.5 metre portable sign installation for key events during O-Week and throughout the year, social media advertising to key audiences and is supported by a competition running through autumn semester with over 75 prizes.

The campaign has been very successful so far, with over 55 user generated posts per week and growing.

Project GELdom - Building the Next-Gen Condom

What a great project to be involved in, even if in a small way! In this project for the University of Wollongong, I managed the design and development of the Project GELdom landing page, blog and brand.

The purpose of the page is to capitalise on the huge media and public interest in the project to build the condom of the future. The project video released by UOW has reached nearly 2 million views, and the team wants to showcase their research in an elegant and efficient way, to help increase the chances of receiving subsequent funding grants from the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation.

The purpose built landing page is fully responsive HTML5 with parallax effects and feature video for impact.

Looking forward to following the success of this project, and hope to stay involved with its promotion!

Testing iPhone 6 Slow Motion and Time-Lapse in Sydney

I put together this short film in September 2014 to test the timelapse and slow-mo capabilities of the new iPhone 6 camera. Filmed at Mrs Macquaries Point and the Botanical Gardens in Sydney. Was very impressed at the footage quality you can achieve so easily!

Open Day 2014 - That’s a wrap!

What an awesome digital and social campaign for our first Open Day in many years at UOW! Had a blast being involved with driving the digital campaign for Open Day.

For our brand new Open Day event, we worked with our agency partner Switched on Media who helped deliver the digital campaign and on the day social engagement.

We had great social engagement on #uowopenday, which was supported by prize giveaways (pictured), a brand new Instaframe, “Twitter Mirror”, our Open Day app and heaps more.

We tested some great feedback on our app from students post-event, with 95% of attendees aware of the smartphone app and 63% using it on the day!

Due to the success of the event, Open Day will be back in 2015!

A career highlight - Team UOW Australia’s ‘Illawarra Flame House’ project

A highlight of my career so far has been leading the Marketing and Communications Team of the University of Wollongong's entry in the Solar Decathlon China 2013, often described as the 'Energy Olympics'. Team UOW Australia was the winner of this prestigious international sustainable design competition, with strong communications and branding playing an important role in the win.

This is a video I created with the goal of summing up the entire experience (not an easy thing to do)!

In this role I led the Marketing and Communications Team of the University of Wollongong's entry in the Solar Decathlon China 2013. Team UOW Australia was the winner of this prestigious international sustainable design competition, with strong communications and branding playing a key role in the win.

My role involved developing and continually growing the brand, visual identity and communications of Team UOW Australia, whilst generating a significant amount of media attention both in Australia and China.

Throughout this project I generated many hundreds of media mentions, including over 40 major stories across metropolitan / national broadcast media and press.

As a part of my PR strategy, I asked the then Prime Minister of Australia, Julia Gillard to make a video message of support for the Team and the project, which received thousands of views online and a multitude of media mentions in the lead up to the competition.

I developed and led our web and social media strategy, driving over 480,000 page views of our website from over 106 countries. Our social media communities reached up to 31,000 people per month, with over 20,000 video views throughout the project.

Team UOW was Australia's first finalist in any Solar Decathlon competition - designing, building and operating a net-zero energy, solar powered home, the Illawarra Flame. This venture was the largest student-led project that the University of Wollongong has ever undertaken.

SBRC in reflection

My final days at SBRC are coming to an end and I felt now was a great time to reflect on some of the great work that I've been involved in during here.

The Sustainable Buildings Research Centre (SBRC) is a new multi-disciplinary University facility, based in Wollongong Australia. It hosts a wide range of research and industry collaborations to address the challenges of making buildings sustainable — it is the first of it’s kind in the world.

My major project at the SBRC involved managing the development of the brand and visual identity of the world class research centre.

I worked with stellar creative agency Made Creative to bring this brand to life, and I'm super please with the final result!

Adam from Made was tasked with cutting through the highly complexed research dialogue, and creating an easy to comprehend brand system.

A comprehensive brand project, starting with a definition piece (strategy) and the core identity. Numerous touchpoints were created ranging from corporate profile, tour guides, wayfinding signage, interpretive signage, interactive display screens, gallery spaces, and general literature.

We worked with the brilliant Visual Energy Signs for the physical executions of the brand, from informational walls, to wayfinding signage.

In 2014 the SBRC launched its world-class facility at the University of Wollongong's Innovation Campus. Its strong brand and clear communications strategy will ensure it is widely regarded as a key authority on sustainable buildings retrofitting, in both research and demonstration.

SBRC is definitely one to watch!
