amazing spider-man (2014) #2
#literally only peter parker would end up with this problem
good to have you back peter
“Wait, you don’t have the Chinese Mafia after you, right?”
Or any gang of angry people that wanted to kill her, because then things were just going to get complicated. On the bright side, the gentlemen had moved on to another part of the street before she had climbed down.
It was sort of ironic seeing someone move that elegantly across a gutter, but Pete stepped forward to help her - if she needed it - anyway.
When she was down on the ground, a place that Peter had never necessarily considered safer, he rubbed the back of his neck, the side of his mouth pulling up.
”Because I hear they’re really vicious; take no prisoners, worse than the regular Mafia.”
"The Chinese Mafia, huh?" Mary Jane quipped with a grin, readjusting the hemline of her skirt and taking an easy step forward, so that she was at eye-level with Peter.
Or close to it, anyway. He was quite a bit taller than her.
"Oh, yeah, but they're the least of my worries," she said dryly. "Jaywalking, though. That'll be the death of me."

he ’ d recognize that fiery head of hair anywhere, and despite all that has happened over the past year, a genuine smile spreads. almost relieved to find a familiar face. “ tell me you’ve had a better year than i have. ”
Mary Jane spun around at the sound of that familiar voice: a voice she hadn't heard in what felt like ages. Not since her last visit to New York last year, right after her Mom had died, when she'd stayed with Aunt Anna for a few weeks before getting her own place.
“Holy shit,” she stammered. “Peter Parker?!”
"thank you for h e r"

❝ yes, hello. friendly neighborhood spider-man just hanging out on a wall, no big deal, don’t be scared. ❞
❝ Holy shit. You're - holy shit, man!
Am I being Punk'd or something?! ❞
He almost lost her words, too focused on the gentlemen to his right and their whispering voices. Her dress was the subject; more specifically, what they would give to take it off, and very suddenly, Pete felt annoyed. Okay, maybe a little more than that. Would it be appropriate to kick some ass right near a… ‘restaurant?’ Nope. He ignored the talk, pushing his chin down in laughter instead.
"No, no, you look.. " Eyes back up, one eyebrow arching. "Shiny.”
She did. He held in the urge to say 'if you dressed like that for dinner, I’d come just to see Aunt May’s reaction.’
”The cigarettes, though. They’re, uh, pretty bad for you. I mean, lung cancer. Stuff like that.” And they smell like crap. “No judgement.” He raised both hands in defense.
"Shiny?" she laughed. That was... unexpected. "Uh. Thanks, Tiger. That's a new one, but it's the sentiment that counts."
She grinned at him. He was certainly different than she'd pictured while she was wading through all the stories and hype about the two of them meeting. He was taller, and less obviously dorky than she'd imagined. Or, well, he still looked a little dorky, but he didn't have a pocket protector or anything.
"No judgement, huh?" Mary Jane teased, taking one last drag off the cigarette before putting it out in the gutter. "I appreciate that.
"But honestly, there are a million and one things more likely to kill me before lung cancer ever gets the opportunity, so I think I'm safe."
With that, she spun, hooking her fingers around the gutter and climbing down gracefully, like she'd done a million times before.
"Ummm…you know, that’s a good question."
"Because it looks like you're crawling on the ceiling. Which is impossible. Because people don't do that."
Check out this sheet of RIDICULOUS potential sentence starters I found:
A hard on doesn’t count as personal growth.
Do I look like a fucking people person?
This isn’t an office. It’s Hell with fluorescent lighting.
I started out with nothing, and I still have most of it left.
I pretend to work. You pretend to pay me.
If I throw a stick, will you leave?
And just how may I screw you over today?
And your crybaby whiny-assed opinion would be…?
I’m just working here ‘till a good fast food job opens up.
I’m not your type; I’m not inflatable.
I’m trying to imagine you with a personality.
Someone here is is thinking about sex. Okay, it’s me.
I have a computer, a vibrator, and pizza delivery. Why should I leave the house?
I just want revenge. Is that so wrong?
It’s sick the way you people keep having sex without me.
I work 40 hours a week to be this poor.
Okay, okay, I take it back! Unfuck you!
Nice perfume. Must you marinate in it?
You look like shit. Is that the style now?
Earth is full. Go home.
I thought I wanted a career; turns out all I wanted was paychecks.
"Oh really?" his face lit up slightly, sadistically; "I know a spell that’ll bring them victims back an’ tear ‘im apart if it’ll make ya feel better."
“Well I’d rather not die tonight if it’s all th’ same t’ you.” he mused jokingly, the smile still tugging at the corners of his lips.
"A spell?" Mary Jane quipped. "Like... like you're a magician, or like a legit Harry Potter spell?"
Constantine smiles; something’s tickled him, he’ll probably never admit what. But he averts his eyes for a moment, and when he meets her gaze again he tells her, “I don’ believe love, I see.”
“‘m a bit’ova weirdness magnet.”
"One of my ex boyfriends is a homicidal maniac who killed three people and terrorized the city on a giant handglider," Mary Jane deadpanned dryly.
"My other ex-boyfriend is..." She grinned, thinking of a good way to put Peter's... extra-curricular activities. "Well, if I told you, I'd have to kill you. So I completely understand weirdness magnet."
ooc;
it's 3:30 in the morning and I told myself I was going to bed hours ago.
Instead, I went online and got my ordained ministerls license online for $7.
I'm not even religious.
"Yeh sure, that stuff.” he answered, shrugging his shoulders with the same nonchalance he’d expressed earlier.
"Fat little babies with halos?" John had to laugh, albeit a soft chuckle more than a full on belly laugh. He nodded at her question, whether it was rhetorical or not; "Yeh, course there is."
"Yeah," she echoed with a grin, taking another deep breath off her cigarette. "'Course there is."
"I take that to mean you're a believer too?" she asked smoothly. "In all the weird stuff, I mean. Ghosts and everything. Since you asked and all."
Peter’s eyes locked on Mary Jane, a smile slowly spreading onto his lips. He was trying so hard not to chuckle.
“Yeah? I think you’re worth it – it all, even some weird strain of tetanus. Besides, this will get me some brownie points right? I mean it must count for something that I practically scaled a building for you, right?”
It was better to have an apology ready in style. Right?
"Damn right I'm worth it," Mary Jane laughed, pushing his shoulder gently. "I'm worth at least twenty stories, though. Shirtless. In the rain."
She met his eyes and smiled, the smile a little less teasing and a little more warm this time. Despite being angry at him earlier, she just couldn't hold on to it, not when he'd climbed eighteen stories and he was sitting here, smiling at her with his stupid brown eyes and that dopey look on his face.
"As for brownie points, though, that might be pushing it..."
Mary Jane Watson. Aunt May called her MJ.
She was the urgent matter he had yet to come home and see sitting at his dinner table on Sunday nights, but didn’t look as rushed to make his acquaintance as May made her out to be. His nostrils cringed at the chemical smell of her cigarette.
“Yeah, sorry about that. School. Clubs. Over-achieving. Being golden.”
What a lie.
”My Aunt May loves you. She especially admires what a - ah - nice girl you are.”
"What?" she teased, flicking a few ashes from the end of the cigarette as she took another drag. She exhaled, and a cloud of smoke slipped from her lips like a storm brewing at the tip of her tongue.
"Don't you think I look nice?"
She laughed, though, at his look of shock at finding out who she was. Mary Jane imagined he'd been expecting something a little different than a girl in a glorified stripper's outfit slinging cigarettes outside of a dingy nightclub.
"Believe it or not, Tiger, I don't dress like this for Sunday dinner with your Aunt," she said, gesturing to the tight leather minidress she wore for work. "I'm a waitress here. This is the uniform. And the cigarettes are an excuse to step out for a break every now and then."
She flicked some more ash and shrugged. "Besides. They taste like peppermint."
"But I’m a cute dork, cause that’s what you admitted.”
[ he happily takes the cookie popping it into his mouth. ]
"Like a chihuahua, okay?
You're cute and all, but you never quit yapping and you pee when you're excited."
