the worst feeling [flashback]
hrutherford:
He hoped he was right, even Henry himself had to hold onto his own words. Despite how horrible the situation was, he had to find a bright side, anything that could make him feel determined to move forward and rebuild their establishment. There was no time for sorrow no matter how much his body wanted to give in, and allow tears to stream down his face. Maybe there was weakness within his body waiting for a moment of vulnerability to force him to break down, but at that point, all Henry wanted was to be strong. Maybe for himself, maybe for Jackson, maybe for the memory of his father, but there was nothing else he could do but to wear the courage that seemed more like an act, than as if he was fully believing in it.Ā
āI think the best thing we could would be to head back to our places, try to get some sleep before weāre forced to deal with it all. Iāve talked to the police once I got here, and now all we can do⦠itās to wait for the chance of starting over.ā Allowing himself to move forward and accept Jacksonās hug, he shared a weak smile with his brother.Ā āI hope so, I canāt accept the idea that someone wants to do us harm when Iām not even sure of what we did wrong. Speciallyā¦ā but he didnāt say it. It was even hard to allow words to come out, afraid that life would see that as a challenge and make him go through it. But he was worries, he had a daughter, and he was afraid that she could be a target to of whoever was making them suffer with the loss of their own job.Ā āWe can do it, yes.ā
Getting back to sleep would be the biggest challenge of the night if he was being honest with himself, yet, Jackson still nodded and went along with what his friend was suggesting. Not only the stress piled up pretty quickly whenever something like this happened, but also, once he had woken up, it was hard for Jackson to go back to sleep in general. Heād probably be tossing and turning in bed until the crack of dawn anyway, but he wouldnāt worry Henry about this. His friend had enough on his mind anyway.Ā āDid they tell you when can we start talking to contractors and engineers?ā He asked out of curiosity as he let out a small sigh, his hand rubbing his hairless head and Jack looked around, to the commotion around the burned down restaurant. With the fire already dead, people were scattering now.Ā
āI donāt understand why would anyone want to hurt us in the first place, mate.ā Again, he shook his head.Ā āBut weāll have to look into that, too.ā Henryās word peaked Jacksonās curiosity and when he averted his attention back to his friend, he was wearing a frown.Ā āEspecially what?ā I mean... if it was something that it was bothering Henry, he should probably know, right? Maybe try and help...Ā āBut yeah, I know we can do this. Honestly, I think we owe it not only to your dad, but also to ourselves. Weāve put too much of our own blood, sweat and tears into this to let this setback destroy it for us. So... as soon as weāre allowed to, weāll start working on rebuilding it. Iām... look... I know this place meant a lot to you, so if you need anything... you know Iām here, right?ā
libby-hales:
āEveryone seems to be feeling old lately, maybe itās the new year reminding everyone theyāre getting older. But if it helps, you donāt look a day under fifty.āĀ
āUnder fifty? Youāre breaking my heart like that, Libs. Keep saying these things and Iāll remove you from my surfer buddy post.ā
alice-jenkins:
āThatās a fair point. Youāre more the type to work through things and distract yourself inā¦other ways,ā she gave him a joking smile and a wink.Ā āYeah, I know you two are downright stubborn when you want to be. I couldnāt imagine that the two of you would call it quits after a little set back. We can have lunch here if you want? And while we do, you can tell me about how you spent your new years eve. I donāt think I remember seeing you on the beach.ā
āNot only that, but I do like the company of friends and family, too.ā Jackson shrugged in a nonchalantly way. Did he enjoy the company of others in a sexual way? Sure. But did he also like spending time with his friends and his family? Definitely.Ā āIt was definitely a huge bucket of ice being thrown on our heads, but Iād say weāre handling it better now that weāve started making plans and talking to people.ā Jackson then motioned his hand to the empty chair across from his and waited until Alice had joined him to continue.Ā āI was there with mum and dad. For some reason, she wanted to go this year, so we did... After the fireworks, they went back home and I went to someone elseās home. Did you have fun?ā
choidamon:
āI thrive during the winter months. Having that cold when in my face? Much more exciting than feeling like my face will melt off at any minute. I know, I know. Doesnāt make much sense but hey. We all have our preferences right?ā he shrugged, chuckling along.Ā āYeah I have an alert to let me know when Summer is officially over so I can take a real breather. I canāt concentrate on anything when itās hot like this.ā
āActually--I donāt know how familiar you are with Melbourne weather, but soon enough you might need a jacket or an umbrella... or both. All in one day.ā Jackson laughed softly a little.Ā āSo I wouldnāt count on the heat to melt your face for too long, which, to you itās probably a good thing, right?ā
alice-jenkins:
āNo, I get it. You have every right to be down and moody and all that. I mean someone set fire to your business, I donāt expect you to be all smiles. I just wish there was something I could do to help, you know?ā she said with a helpless shrug.Ā āIf you need time to be alone and process, I get that. If you just want some quiet company over lunch, Iām happy to do that too. I just hate seeing you two so down.ā
āWhen do I ever want to be alone, though?ā Jackson offered Alice a small smile, hoping sheād know how appreciative of her offer he was. While he didnāt let his true feelings show that often, hence why he didnāt feel like himself whenever he let other people see how moody or now he was, Jackson could only hope that his closest friends knew that he appreciated their support.Ā āItāll take more than that to make your cousin and I to give up on that restaurant. It was just--I donāt know... surprising? Anyway, I donāt want your quiet company. Do you want to have lunch here or go somewhere else?ā
summerdhale:
āOh, is that so? Is this your way of telling me that the victory is yours? Because thatād be debatable.ā While she didnāt enjoy proximity, there was no time to keep herself in a safe distance from Jackson as he moved closer to kiss her cheek. Which cause Summer to be in silence for a couple of second.Ā āHow about a Never Have I Ever?ā
Feeling like himself again, Jackson let out an easy chuckle as he shook his head.Ā āNo, not at all! Iām just saying Iām good at drinking games. Besides, from the little that Iāve got to know of you, Iād say you wouldnāt let me win that easily in the first place.ā While he did notice her silence, Jackson decided not to comment on it, focusing on her game suggestion and nodding.Ā āSounds good. Do you start or should I?ā
āSomeone told me the other day that the Melbourne Star got a Tripadvisor certificate of excellence and now Iām caught thinking... Remember when we used to look up at that and wonder when it would be finished? I donāt know about you, but I feel like Iām getting old.ā
Devon ā Senpai
Devon: It's an instrument.
Devon: But I'm worth it, Jacks.
Devon: If you ever booty call me, i'll say the same thing. 'it's too much work'
Jackson: Are we talking relationships or just sex here?
Jackson: Because no sex is worth being chased by cops, sorry, D.
Devon ā Senpai
Devon: What about a cow bell?
Devon: Really? I wanted to film you while the police chased you!
Jackson: Are you calling yourself a cow? I'm confused.
Jackson: Nah, I ain't about that life, D. Sorry. Besides, it'd be too much work, you know?
alice-jenkins:
āNo?ā Alice was getting the feeling that she was bothering him more than doing anything else for him at the moment.Ā āUh, not really. We could go cook something up orā¦I could leave you alone if you donāt really want company. Iām just trying to cheer you up, but Iām not exactly the best at knowing how to do that.ā
He felt bad. Jackson had always been the worst at these situations, making him become the most annoying, sad person ever and it wasnāt Aliceās fault that he was still like this--it was his own.Ā āNo, itās--ā He sighed, rubbing his hand over his shaved head, then looking at the petite brunette.Ā āIām sorry. Itās not your fault, Alice. Iāve just been having the worst case of mood swings lately. I donāt mind your company, you know that. How about we just find ourselves a nice restaurant and go eat?ā
Devon ā Senpai
Devon: ...
Devon: i want you, i need you, oh baby, oh baby.
Jackson: lol I'm not buying you a guitar or singing 'Can't Take My Eyes Off You', just so you know.
āI tried to demonstrate to my students just how hip and cool I am by using an app in class that allows them to ask me questions from their smart devices that then pop up on the screen during the tutorial so if theyāre confused about something or want me to repeat something or have any additional questions, I can see it straight away and respond without them having to put their hand up. I thought, you know, might help the shy students and what a great way to use the tech we have available to us.ā
āAre you single? Do you like Ariana Grandeās new album? Have you seen Rogue One yet? and Can I call you Daddy? are just some of the intellectually stimulating questions I received. I really shouldnāt have allowed it to be anonymous.ā
āWell, and did you manage to answer all those questions?ā Jackson asked curiously as he took a large sip from his drink. With being practically on a forced break from the restaurant, he figured he could find something useful to do with his time. So, he invited Charlie for drinks.Ā āDoĀ you like Ariana Grandeās new album? Thatās an important question right there.ā He laughed a little, leaning back against his seat.Ā āYouāre not old enough to be called daddy--or... how old are your students supposed to be again?ā
āThereās a great song playing in the background, Iāve just found a way to steal this bottle of tequila, and before you find reasons to decline some drink games⦠we will drink and have fun. Thereās no turning back,ā as Summer rested the shot glasses on top of the table, her light hues stared at the person in front of her, with a sly grin moving her lips upwards. Summer could use some entertainment, and getting others drunk could be that for a night.
Jackson could recognize that voice anywhere and he didnāt mean it in a bad way. Summer, was standing there, looking as hot as usual and offering him some God given alcohol... how could anyone say no to that?Ā āWell, I happen to be really good at drinking games.ā He smirked, his hand resting on her waist long enough for him to plant a kiss on her cheek, then step back.Ā āIāll take you up on the offer, Hale. What kind of game will we be playing?ā

alice-jenkins:
āI donāt knowā¦like you?ā she frowned when his eyes remained on his book. He didnāt have his usual energy, and she could understand why. Henry had already told her about the fire, but it sucked to see the two of them so down.Ā āYou wanna go do something other than sit around?ā The least she could do was try to help him get his mood up.
āIs this your attempt of turning me into one of those future self memes?ā Putting his Kindle away, Jackson finished his drink. He wished he had been in a more talkative mood, especially since Henry and him had already begun discussing the renovations, but still, he wasnāt quite there yet.Ā āI was going to have lunch, but maybe you have a better idea... do you?ā
Devon ā Senpai
Devon: Sorry, sweetheart 8--) I'll change your name from senpai to diva.
Devon: Really? I only get a decent dedication if I buy two?!
Devon: you forgot, 'love, your biggest fan, jackson'.
Devon: ooh, can i be at the photoshoot? i'll give loads of good ideas!
Jackson: If you wanted to see me naked in person, all you had to do was say so.
Jackson: I'm easy like that.
