Flute in hand, Cassidy followed the rest of the band off the field after halftime. The freshman trombone player whoâd had a crush on her since the beginning of the year was attempting to talk to her again and she nodded politely in response, though her mind was on the pretzel Willow had waiting for her in the stands. Her focus shifted quickly when she bumped into someone hard. Her hat sat askew on her head as she shifted her gaze up, eyes meeting those of a football player from the other team. âSorry!â she said quickly, tucking her flute under her arm and reaching up to fix her hat. âI guess itâs a good thing you guys wear all that protective gear,â she said with a nervous laugh, punching him in the arm a little harder than sheâd meant to.
Jackâs helmet was dangling from his fingers as he headed across the field and his hair was sweaty and sticking up in some places yet somehow, he still managed to look good. âWoah,â he said softly as a girl bumped into him, reaching up to steady her with his free hand.  He raised his eyebrows slightly as she began to talk, biting the corner of his lip to conceal a smile as she fixed her hat. âYeah, it protects us from all sorts of dangers, marching band members included,â Jack said with a grin, fighting back a small laugh when she punched his arm. âDonât worry about it.â
