Final Bucks Live Blog
Now things are back to normal and the stresses of Bucks Live Presents: Jungle Bucks come to ease it is finally time to take a step back and look at the whole spectrum of the event. There are many positives and negatives to take away from my personal experience of being part of the team that put together this event. But I think firstly I will speak about my role as team leader within the marketing team, as stated in previous blogs at the beginning I was nervous about taking this role but over time as I grew more and more in to the role by the last couple months I was in full swing being team leader of this team and felt very comfortable doing this role.
Next I shall explain how I feel the Easter period drastically effected the marketing of this event, before we broke up we under estimated how much time we would have after the Easter break and left too many jobs that should have been completed before the break for the week that we got back after the break, these jobs including getting Flyers & Posters printed, having a fine detailed flyer/poster schedule, having the raffle tickets printed and some other small jobs. This meant that the week we got back of the 11th April all these jobs had to be complete within that week, meaning that we only had 2 weeks to market the event, I feel that although it was through our own faults that this situation happened I feel that we did a very good job of marketing the event and getting the wider community involved and bringing customers to the event.
Next I shall speak about the marketing team as a group, I feel that within the group we was very good at communicating with each other completing tasks together, I do feel that some jobs was over looked that might have been missed or was not completed at the right time, but overall we managed to complete most tasks that we set ourselves and carried on working as a team.
As a whole group I feel that there was many factors that effected the running and process of the event, one of them being that there was way too many people hiding within groups and not willing to get really involved and contribute to the event, Meaning that really there was only a select amount of people that was theoretically contributing week in and week out. A few of these people would pop up on the odd week with stuff they had done, then go back to hiding again leaving tasks to be completed by the people who was contributing throughout the whole process. I feel this effected the group as a whole dramatically as there was too many jobs that people was trying to juggle around and complete, meaning through no fault of their own they wasn’t complete with the best of their ability, I feel that If everyone contributed equally the planning process would have been a lot easier and the overall success of the event could have been greater. I also feel this would of took a lot of the pressure off the team leader, instead of them trying to complete all tasks they could have been overseeing the group and making sure that the tasks was being complete correctly and was sticking to timeline.
Even though there was many struggles in putting together this event, the satisfaction that I saw on some of the children’s faces on the day was worth it, the event as a whole ran very smoothly with many highlights on the day some of my personal high lights was getting up early and starting to work very early, I know I sound crazy but the thrill of getting up early on a beautiful spring morning to prep for an event I was helping organise, I know over the years as I carry on in this industry the novelty will wear of but for now I thoroughly enjoy the process of setting up for an event in the early hours of the morning
Working within the box office on the day was very challenging as me and Dannielle where both inside the box office, one of the problems we faced was space there was only a certain amount of space for us to move around and complete tasks like transferring money to the till, giving wrist bands out to kids, ext ext also when the money collectors came round every hour to collect the takings from the cash till it was extremely difficult to conduct this process as there was a limited amount of space.
As I look back at the whole process I feel I have gained a lot of experience and learnt a lot of things from the process, I feel that I threw myself head first into the experience and I came out the other side learning a lot more than I thought I would, this opportunity really opened my eyes up to the amount of time that it takes to put on an event, and that you really do have to have a management plan for every little detail.
