It was a great day for a reunion, y’all! Last night the @msuracerband held its annual alumni pep band while the Racers hosted Bethel at the @cfsbcenter. So happy to see old friends and make new ones–although my lips feel like they’re about to fall off!

My mom and I had a great Christmas celebration. We ate our body weight in peanut brittle and chocolate and watched my all-time favorite Christmas movies, including “Muppet Christmas Carol.” So blessed to have made it home this holiday season to spend it with her. The surprise in that big box is almost finished, so she tells me!

This Christmas Eve, I’m thinking back to the beginning of the month when Blacksburg got its first major snow of the winter season. I played around in the snow all day and then baked bread with the free time I had not going ANYWHERE. I’m dreaming of a white Christmas but these pictures are a good stand-in! Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to all my friends and family!

I both love seeing the sunrise from in the air and hate that I didn’t think about how early I’d have to get up…at least I got the whole row to myself!! I’m so happy to see my family and grateful for another year with them. I can already smell the bread we’re going to make and DEVOUR and the movies we’re going to watch! So I meant to take photos of the ice this morning before it melted, but we definitely had our first winter storm of the season. I thought the lights shining through the trees looked really pretty and it was so quiet out! I guess I do like this part of winter but I am already so done with the cold…

It’s not even been three days of cold, rainy fall weather and I’m already over it. Can’t it ever stay the beautiful, leaves-turning fall for more than a week? These were just three days ago!

Last weekend was Homecoming at Virginia Tech and I had a lot happening! Our 5th Anniversary Gala, the 50th Anniversary Reunion for the 1968 class, and a football game against Boston College. I look like I’m having fun but it was COLD! Oh well, it was a blast–so glad it wasn’t this weekend because it’s finally turned fall.

The Moss Arts Center celebrated its 5th season yesterday evening with a fabulous gala reception yesterday evening, featuring the incomparable Maria Callas. It’s absolutely unbelievable how far projection technology has come, and the pairing with Roanoke Symphony Orchestra was fascinating. So happy to have found my home here–Happy 5th Birthday, M.A.C.!

So I meant to post this sooner, but Saturday I had the privilege to run in The Muddy ACCE Race in Giles County, VA with my new friends from @crossfit460 . It was muddy, it was cold, and it was a massive amount of fun (and just a little difficult). Can’t wait to tackle it again next year–including the ice bath! .. ACCE, or Access to Community College Education, is a program in Giles County that allows students in underserved homes across the New River Valley to go to college debt-free for two full years. The race directly benefits students in the NRV that could not otherwise afford to attend school, and that alone was worth the entry fee. What to do with a free Friday night…watch VT Men’s Soccer, of course! The stands were full–I had no idea people were so passionate about VT’s other sports (“other” hear meaning “not football or basketball”). The only drawback: it’s definitely a fall night and I dressed for summer 🤣

Well, folks, my first week at @artscenteratvt has come to an end. What’s my name again?? All kidding aside, this has been everything I hoped for and more and I am so blessed to be working in a place so warm and welcoming. Tonight I had the pleasure of seeing two groups I had no knowledge of and was blown away by their talent and passion! Here’s to many more through 2018-2019!

Pt. 2/2: Since I’m moving so far away, it’s going to be twice as hard to visit my third home, Memphis. I had so much fun that I had to split up my highlights into two parts! I got go sing at my two-year church home, Germantown Presbyterian, and see all my choir family there. I also saw some serious nature I never knew existed in Shelby Park–including a mother and fawn! This was an amazing trip, but man at I beat. @shelbyfarmspark and @stakspancakekitchen

Pt. 1 of 2;: Since I’m moving so far away, it’s going to be twice as hard to visit my third home, Memphis. I can’t believe how much I missed this city, its struggles and its strengths, and I hope I have the opportunity to live here again. I visited some favorites (@aldospizzapies and @memphismadebrew), discovered some new ones (@shelbyfarmspark), and saw some of my favorite people!
