Piper usually prided herself on her ability to stay calm and unbothered during a situation, but the fact that she knew she looked like a wet mop on the side of the road only fueled her fire. She turned to look at Jacob, huffing as she watched the car crawl along beside her, “Oh, and I thought my Saturday couldn’t get any better,” she chimed, though she had to bring her attention back to the sidewalk when she stumbled into a large puddle that had been created thanks to the storm. “I disagree! I think it’s the best time to take a walk in the rain, don’t you agree?” Her voice was tight as she tried to readjust herself, humiliated now that someone had managed to find her like this. Her pride made it nearly impossible for her to ask for help at the moment. “I hope you’re enjoying the show, Jake. I have a few miles to go so you’ll have plenty of time to watch.”
A part of Jake felt a little bad for leaving Piper out in the rain just for his own amusement, but that part was minuscule compared to the side of him that was enjoying this. “Oh, obviously I agree. That’s why I’m in my car staying warm and dry,” he replied, a grin quirking at his lips as he leaned back in his chair. If she had miles to go, he was in for a long, slow idle until they got wherever she was headed. Odds were he wouldn’t last the whole journey, but for now he was content to roll along watching. “Excellent. A whole few miles of this and nothing better to do with my time? It’s like a dream come true,” he said, rolling his eyes a bit as he spoke. Leaning over into the door, Jake threw an arm over it, making sure to stay just inside the car so he wouldn’t get too wet. “Seriously, though, what are you doing?” He didn’t want to assume that something bad had happened to get her to this point, but really he couldn’t think of any scenario where someone would willingly do this.
