BWV 998 on my extended range guitar. This is my favorite piece by Bach. The way this piece swoops and rolls makes me approach playing very differently than I’m used to, I hope you enjoy it, learning it has been such a pleasure.

Do you remember the music from......

Of course you remember the music from Star Wars. Even people who haven’t seen any of the movies know Darth Vader’s theme music. Do you remember the music from the original Jurassic Park? or Titanic? Lord of the Rings? or more recently Mad Max Fury Road? You might, those were pretty iconic soundtracks as well. I never even saw Titanic (don’t stone me or anything ok) and I know how that main theme goes.

OK, so, how about the last romantic comedy you saw? The last action flick you saw? How about any movie you saw that wasn’t one of your favorite movies?

I can remember the music from almost all of my favorite movies but I can’t remember any of the music from movies that I just liked or the ones that I straight up didn’t like. Why would that be? Is it that the movie just didn’t speak to me so I didn’t remember the music, or, here’s an idea, is it that the music didn’t keep me wrapped up in the film? These questions have me thinking now. Maybe the music is fifty percent of what makes a movie great, or maybe it’s even more! I’ll bet there are studies about this, if not there should be. As always, just a thought.
